Here's a good one... are you here for the music or the pipeline?
Personally, I'm here for the music. I enjoy the pipeline as well, but it seems the two are drifting apart. I wonder why?
What's your thoughts?

I don't see why it has to be one or the other. If one doesn't like the pipeline and posts on the pipeline stating as much, then that is just one contradicting oneself. Why not just ignore it and listen to the vast array of music, build stations, etc... If one doesn't like the music, then one is probably on the wrong site anyway.

By "it seems" you mean you and a couple other crybabies keep crying and crying. As far as I can tell most of the rest of us are on the same page.
It's a nonsense question because this is the blog area and we are encouraged by IAC to blog about varied topics that aren't limited to music. Nice try though, how long are you going to keep pushing this dooty?

Just a simple question banana, did you forget to take your pill today?
Cracka, you're right. I'm not saying you have to make a choice. I stated I liked both in my post, which banana must have missed, go figure, but the primary reason I am here is because of the music.
Some observations I've made recently make me curious.

Banana, its a fair question...you did not like when Kev did the exact thing you are doing on one of your posts.
I have asked the same question... In the end I agree it does not matter. We all benefit with more traffic to the site. ..

This site has been nothing but pleasure to me ... I enjoy both the music and the pipeline immensely ...
Here are the reasons why ... not in any specific order ...
1. This is a place I can put my Artistic endeavors ... both musically and written word and some of my other Art as well.
2. This is a place I can come to enjoy others Artistic endeavors ... both musically and written word and other Art as well.
3.. A place that holds some of the finest music and finest people on the face of the earth.
4. A place that offers great innovative ideas for the artist, such as Stations, stats, tagboards, comment sections, collab request, cheap mastering service, and on and on ... plus offers us the pipeline which can encompass both listeners and Artist.
5. The pipeline is rarely moderated, highly active, sometimes emotional but never boring ... It is a place I have learned so much about myself and others that it is invaluable to me ... I have read great poetry, been led to many great bands and single Artist, learned about other cultures in other countries, Learned some recording technics, read much humor, learned about new instruments and various other things that have enriched my life ...
6. I've even gotten song ideas from the pipeline, heard other songs inspired by the pipeline, made long lasting friends on the pipeline ... call them cyber friends if you like .. but none the less they are friends to me ...
7. I can be me 24 hours a day and no one tells me I can't be ... I can spend all the time here I want or go back to the real world anytime I want ... I am totally accepted here, both musically and on the pipeline ... the pipeline is also FREE advertisement ... if people would realize how to utilize this fact, they would be amazed at the traffic it could bring you ... and I'm not talking about making a post and walking away leaving it for the regulars ... I'm talking about bringing the masses in ... and it doesn't take a very savvy individual to learn how to do these things ...
How much traffic do you want ? ... How much can you handle ? ... If you are wanting to be noticed and you don't utilize this feature then I think you are either crazy, or just plain missing the boat ...
I laugh when I read people complain about getting lost in the mire of Artist on the web .. saying it can't be done ... with a billion reasons why ... and saying things like "believe me I have tried" ... Well I call you call you out ... and I say you are completely full of shit ! ... Does no one remember the days of no internet ?, no way to get your music out there but drive 1000 miles a week, practically begging for some gig time or anyone to listen to you at all ?
Does no one believe in themselves anymore ? Does no one see what kind of unbelievable opportunity IAC offers you ? ... The music side and the pipeline ?
I'm a nobody from nowhere that just enjoys myself and this place has been more than I ever deserved ... but for those of you that want success and all it's glory, it's right here ... or at least the vehicle to carry you there is right here ... if your not seeing it, it's not because of anything going on at IAC ... It's because of something going on (or not going on) with you !!!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything about this place is incredible to me ... I've been around awhile ... I've checked out those "other" sites ... they don't hold a candle to this one ...
... any part of it I don't like, I wouldn't utilize ... but there is so much more here to put one's effort into ... It's a fricken smorgasbord of opportunity if one takes the time to look around ...
Peace ...
Sam

cool rave Sam-------- Go son!
Jesse ---I reckon you missed one!
the Stations-----there is no site that can offer such an opportunity to mix your own music up with other fine artists and then export it anywhere on the web------IMO
Sometimes think that this is the undiscovered secret here at IAC??
for me the pipeline is a way of telling my friends a few lies, and-------

Sam, you have great vision and as I've said before, you're one of the more signature characters here at IAC to me. How long have you been here?
Silverwood, you're right! The stations are great, like Jeff said in another thread I always get a kick out of a staiton add... it's always fun to find someone who likes your music and to see the different places you're music ends up with all the different artists and tastes. I also think it's a lot of fun building a station... it takes me a while because I'm picky, but after a while you can really put together a nice list of music... and now when I sit back and just stream my station from time to time I'm impressed with the great songs on it, and the quality it emits... and the fact I can take that anywhere on the web is great advertising for us IAC artists if nothing else.
That's another reason I like the pipeline because that's where I've found most of my new music... just checking out an artist with some friendly words or funny comment. Someone's personality can say a lot about their tunes IMO. That inspires me to check someones music out... beats chart searching, that's tedious and hit or miss.

I came for the music. Initailly to sell or at least promote my own, but quickly to listene to a wealth of new artist I'd not have heard otherwise. Melody Gardot is probably the bigest of the new blues artist I've discovered here, but ther many other greats, not all blues (I listen to much more as you can tell from my station).
I find reading the pipeline addictive and ussually enjoyable, it went down hill during the american election period (from my point of view only) but has recovered, although silly 'anons war' that the prefect bananannanana is stiring up is getting a little tiresome... (because although there are acouple of arists who are uncomfortable with the anons, its not them he 'harasses'), it's a great place to promte yourself, although sometimes I wander just howmany people are reading, howmany lurkers are the on the pipeline? No easy way to tell....

Thanks for that welcome,. I dont get out on this pipeline much, I am so into listening to music, teaching and promoting artists, I just dont have the time to spend here, but do occasionally visit and read the very interesting postings.
This is really the best place on earth for music and creativity .
Anyways----Cheers to you all at this special time of year and thanks to all you terrific musicians who provide such a great variety of music. may 2009 be kind to you all -----bryon

It's a very good site.
Those who never were doing music before the net, use your imagination to think of how isolated a home recordist could be.
Very.
I love being able to talk with musicians and listeners that are way into music. I love having a place the music gets out.

---- Updated 12/17/2008 6:28:04 PM
Awwww shucks ... now I got that feeling again that I've had so many times since I've been here ... the one Lace so aptly described in her thread ... where she was kicking the dirt and blushing .. :) You are all wonderful people ...
Jesse ... I can't say exactly how long I've been here ... maybe 2006 ? ... there are many others that have been here longer ... but I guess I kinda do resemble that old piece of furniture in the corner ...
I do remember the circumstances though ... I was trying to crawl out of a very long, deep, dark chapter in my life ... most here know my story, so I won't go there today ... but I had put a song or two up at G.B. because my gal had wished for me to do so before she died ... that is when I was contacted by one of Scott's recruiting messages ... I almost passed on his invitation to tell you the truth ...
I had also tried out a couple of other sites ... and figured IAC was probably "just another" one of those places ... of which none ever really were what I needed ...
but I've always been a believer in "Everything Happens For A Reason" ... so I think I put up one song and forgot about this place ... A few months later I checked in only to find some very nice comments on my page, one guy in particular wanted to know who I was, and several others had added me to their stations ... I was really floored ... I was slow about getting around at first ... There was a forum here then and I started participating a little there ... people just kept being nice to me ... although I got some nasty words from a few about my music in there, I really liked the music side of this site ... and the like type, creative people here ... When one guy showed up on the forums (that had been here a lot longer than me) that argued with me and others, that was one of those Arian Nation type fellows, I watched how management handled him ... they let him stay and didn't run him off ... then he just got more offensive and started using the "N" word ... a lot ... he was warned a few times and didn't behave ... and management gave him the boot ... I was impressed with the way they bent over backwards to let the guy stay and the fact that after he become to much... they gave him the boot ... so I stuck around ... and the rest is history
When people say this place doesn't matter, they don't have a clue ... it may not have saved my life but it helped me emerge from the depths of hell ... and it will always be an endearing place to me, and so will the people here, young, old, artist, listener, new comer or old timer ... I truly love this place and the people here ... and I would hope that would matter ...
I wouldn't feel right here if I didn't mention Johannes was the guy who took enough interest to ask who I was ... and he and Brian Booth, and Ash Ferry were among the first to add me to Stations ...
.... and I also know the first encounters I had on the forums were with Scott and Chris (Data Thieves) ... There are many that are no longer here ... and they still resonate in my heart ... just as the newer Artist will when I leave ...

it must have been early-ish 2006 cause you were one of the first to greet us, you had that cute little soldier with a bugle as your icon---I sorta miss that----but hey --times have changed and i like that too!!
you have always been the "spirit" of iac and dare I say "indie soul" for me!
"Everybodies got a song" was one of my first station adds---I felt like I discovered it!!

Sam, you are the governer.
Thank goodness you didn't leave because you are a soothing and reasoning spirt.
I came here for the music and because of the warmth of the welcome from station managers and soon got hooked on the station creation side as well.
As for the blogs I come and go and in 2007 i was rarely on them. It is really since i started writing again this year that i came back on to promote my songs.
Again i got tremendous support so i come on to comment on anyone else new songs. That was fine and then came the usa elections and now we got these financial problems. Therefore people including me are tense and worried and saying stupid things. i wouldn't change a thing about these blogs.
I'm quick to forgive and i don't hold grudges and i would hope to get the same in return. I think there is room for everyone on these blogs and the thing i like about the blogs nowadays is that you have leave the artist ego behind before you speak because everyone is equal here. That's a lesson i learned here last week.
This is by far the best site on the net and i do appreciate it and love all parts of it equaly because they are part of the one ideal which is.
Freedom of musical and vocal expression and mutual support.

I'm here because I love musicians and artists..
I like the way they think, the way they argue,,,,and I think it's fascinating to read an artists opinions or prose or just life experiences and then listen to their music and try to find the person in the mix.
I like doing this with painters as well, there are a handful of very good painters in my community and I love talking with them about just anything....

yup. I'm with Jesse, Sam, Ray, Silverwood, Anjuli and everybody else == > it's all about the music, but the PIPELINE is a great window into many artist's souls.... me likeee both.
I too have gleaned a lot of wisdom from interacting with other artists on this pipeline -- and haven't found anything like it on the other sites I utilize for music distribution.
And people, recent posts from Father Time and others, have reiterated to me that there's quite a few SUCCESSFUL artists who actually hang their hats here too. I.E., not just relatively unknown indies. They, of course, aren't as active on the Pipeline, but I suspect that's due to TIME issues, and the biggies like Julliete and The LIcks or even Pete Townshend, have no need to promote/interact via the pipeline. Anyway, what I'm getting at is THIS site is the REAL deal for indie artists... None other compares, as others have already pointed out.
It would be pretty cool though if some of the BIGGER artists stopped into the pipeline from time to time... wouldn't it? just my thoughts.... -pHLeGm

Wow these are some great posts guys.
Sam you are a genuine and pure man there's no doubt about that. I couldn't agree with Rob more when he said you are the spirit of IAC. Ray is right we are very fortunate you're still with us. :)
Same goes for you Ray. I liked your post a lot too. You are a very important part of this whole movement and I know you spend much of your time checking out new music and supporting the artists around you, I think that's great.
Same goes for everyone else! I'm glad you guys are here and I've been given the chance to interact with you and even work with some of you... it's really opened my eyes to new things and I've learned at lot. You guys are going to be the people I remember when I look back at all this.
What a ride eh?
Phlegm I think it'd be sweet to have a bigger name artists drop by on the pipeline from time to time. I guess when one of us makes it big, we'll just have to remember where we came from!

I'm here for the combo. I love the "artist talk". It's easy to get sidetracked, but to me the best use of this place is like a virtual cafe filled with lovers of music who dig talking 'bout it...I used to spend entire days doing the DJ thing and had to cut it out so I could get back to my own creative psychosis (lol). Now I'm more of a "listen to a few tunes while I'm here" kinda feller, and tend to go where the pipeline leads me. This is due to limited online time more than anything else.
