Could it be? A jazzy fusion instrumental with a hip-hop vocal?
You better believe it! :) This is the first effort between Grega and I as "Fighting The Undertow". It's something we both always wanted to try. I used to rap back in the day, but it was never really anything of any merit. I wanted this song to be meaningful and I think I've finally matured enough as a writer to pull this off. This was a lot of fun and I feel this tune is very unique... so CHECK IT OUT if you're in the mood for something totally different. There is a bit of language so if you're offended by that stuff, you might not wanna check out my SHIT yo, haha. :) Enjoy!

That was worth a couple of listens!
Nice tune, like the way the guits textures and styles vary through the song, whilst still sounding like the same song (if you get what I mean...).

Jesse, I admire your need to be an innovator. You inspire me to try harder. Great work, my friend. Keep on keepin' on. You're on the fast track to get where you want to go with edgy songs like that.

Well, well... finally got around to giving this one a good listen.... pretty amazing shit Jess! Seriously got the instinct of meter and word (rhythm and poetry)... at least old school method was about that. Some cool lyrical insight and great voice. And Grega is just a monster!

Wow, thanks guys! I'm kind of surpised some of you are digging this tune, wasn't expecting that. It's not for everyone. :) HUGE thanks for the station adds!
Richard, dude... thanks man, that means a lot. Your words are flattering.
Slim, cool man! I thought about dropping by your page to let you know about this one, but I didn't want my first contact with you to be promo, seemed tacky. I'm all for a collab with you man. :)
Auset, oh my. Glad you liked it! You're right about method, and I suppose I'm old school in that sense. I learned form just listening to hip hop artists I liked and practicing. I wouldn't expect you to like a tune like this, that's great you're open minded! You're just too cool for school.

Jesse... you're funny. Didn't your mama tell you to never judge a book by the cover? Dude, I have an enormous appreciation for music in all of its amazing forms. Def old school for sure. While in Oakland, my main source getting deep in the roots was via my discovery of The Last Poets... between them, Gil Scott-Heron and Linton Kwesi Johnson, I listened over and over and over... while doing a lot reading of heavy African history teachings. At the same time, I was working with a Shaman from Birkina Faso, assisting with non-profit work and ritual support. So yea... plus, of course... Run-D.M.C, ll cool j, beastie boys, sugarhill gang, snoop and all the others...
more than meets the eye, eh?

Auset, haha... yes she did, but ehhhh... I guess that's easier said than done sometimes. That's awesome you have great musical appreciation. It's just that, and I don't think I'm wrong in making this assumption (even though I know I shouldn't), that MOST folks like you wouldn't considering listening to a tune like this... or hip-hop, or metal, or anything that wasn't what they played or listened to prior... know what I mean? It's just that, you being Auset, fuckin' rule and you're special and cooler than your average player. "Nuff said. :) Yes it appears there's much more to you than meets the eye... I kind of have a crush on you now, don't tell your hubby. :D
Slim, cool man. I'll keep that in mind and when I get a little more free time, I say let's work something out. You seem like a cool guy with good taste. I think it'd be a lot of fun to work with you and your crew. Thanks for the support bro!
