Who is really the "King"?
After all these years of artists and music since Elvis died, would you still consider him the king of Rock & Roll or does someone else's name stand out for you? Just curious to see what the indie world thinks

I think Elvis will be the King forever but Chuck Berry is basically the inventor of rock as we know it.

Can't argue about Les Paul, He's right up there in rock royalty status! Something could be said about Jimi Hendrix also. Without him, would we have wailing guitars? But because of his worldwide appeal, I think Elvis still has a legitimate claim to the throne.

The royalty of rock has multiple kings and queens. Let’s not forget Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Janus Joplin and Tina Turner.

Now, everybody can't be the King. So, the quandary before us calls for a more democratic answer than the ones we get from all the so called experts and shade tree music critics. Then, of course, there are the historical purists who go by what they perceive to be tale tale signs of superior greatness. Hence, the title "King". No, rather than yield to their undue influence I would prefer that there be a worldwide vote on it. Yet, I wonder if that is even possible. Here lately, we can't even trust local voting processes let alone a worldwide process. So, we are doomed to forever flail about without a clear cut King that all the kingdoms of the world agree on. Most experts still refer to Elvis as the King. Does anyone really give a fuck? He's dead and that means his reign is over. Right? I'm not sure about how this royalty shit works. I'm a yank through and through. Go figure.........

Elvis is considered the greatest singer performer entertainer ever in the music biz
Not all people in this biz can do all 3 as indicated as a singer, performer entertainer, so Elvis without question is the ultimate everything the first best and last of the greats

I’ll toss my opinion in. Robert Johnson. Everything we all do today is rooted in his style he brought to us. Elvis I agree the best entertainer and performer. That voice emoted so incredibly well. But to me music is rooted in Johnson’s genius. If he did sell his soul. We all owe our gratitude.

true that Bruce , This is Robert's Blues (2003) by my brothers band the bluevoodoo who I sometimes played and recorded with as a sideman on piano organ etc
this is old school 20 years ago and the band still plays together

I had to rethink this after last weekend. I performed two shows with my choir and orchestra, and after that, I would have to say that Vivaldi is the king of rock 'n' roll.

Beethoven was the first real rock star artist ,massive hard core chords
Never before had a musician garnered so much attention. It indicated a larger cultural sea change: A society that reveres artists and makes them celebrities. In a way, Beethoven was the world's first rock star. Beethoven-worship changed the course of art history.
