Don't forget about donating to IMP
if you've got funds to spare. We are greatly appreciative of every contribution, that's how we keep the site running.

IMP needs to set up an way to bring in steady monies, need an income stream to augment this situation, said before, this just looks like a troubling situation pleading for money every month. Be like me asking my artists I promote, hey I need more money to promote you, or students I teach, hey get you mom and dad to give me more money, I didnt charge enough
I know you dont like to hear this, but it is the bloody truth

well we have enough people that use the site that we shouldn't have to rely on the same people all the time. I had hoped that the link on the artist dashboard would do the trick but that's just not used. I'm just not too good at selling advertising, anyone want to volunteer to help with that?

Well Scott, you have focused on the improvement of the site, ideas, working the music end, and huge improvements have been incorporated. I know it pisses you and others off that I bring this up, I just want to see a more steady flow to the services with out interruptions, I think the problem is that the free thing is a tough one to overcome, as it has been in place for so long, I know that soundcloud started to charge up awhile ago and give those who pay special privileges , will have to check them out and see how it works
Honestly, just bringing in new artists without some kind of specific guideline all these years is just not cutting it. Now we both disagree on the platform that should be incorporated for funding this place , and it is apparent that there has to be some ways and means to facilitate a way to get an income stream happening, not including donations, if people want to give or give more over and above a basic fee per year, then good on them and and a flat fee can be nominal , nothing outrageous, but something that one can budget over the year for the services to fund this good place..
The donation thing on the artist page is a good idea, maybe people are not aware of it. I dont think having a small fee in place per year is going to impact creativity, personally to me, people will place more value in something they pay for.
Ok thats it, I know it is a bona contention and bugs people but it bugs me of not having a flow or monies for people who service this place and fund everything else and the basics.
if artists are using this place, myself included we have to dish out cash, whether monthly or on a renewal yearly basis
cheers

well I'm going to go against my better judgment and continue this discussion, however I reserve the right to lock the thread if it turns into some sort of free-for-all that usually happens under these circumstances.
Ok, say we decided to charge all artists 2 dollars a month. Here's the problem, what do we do if artists don't pay? Make their page inaccessible? I refuse to do that. I want every bit of music uploaded here to be able to be played. and if we want any chance of having a product comparable to the corporate sites, we can't limit the amount of songs either.

Yeah should be discussed privately, I agree among those who run the place, yourself and the shareholders to come up with a solution. I agree, should not lock artist pages, there has to be a solution.
thats it for me, no more. i done enough of this before, so dont want to continue to step on toes and piss people off.
over and out

I do like the idea of selling advertising Scott. Is it possible to link a small advertisement ahead of a song play ? Like You Tube? If so, You could sell potential advertisers on a per play basis. Just a thought. Of course there is the matter of marketing to those potential customers. A sales person to go "Get the Biz".
It's all about features and benefits for that customer. How many plays are there per week? A month? What genres are played the most? A premium rate on those songs that are played more?
Or. Do we go after people that would like to market to our IMP Base. Manufacturers of DAW software, and / or our gear. Guitars, Amps, Keys. Maybe a finely crafted letter to these folks who sell their wares to us? What a better way for them to advertise to us? And for them to create a relationship with their products and the people that purchase them.
Just a Thought.....

I'd never put ads before the songs, I despise those, it would lower the quality of our site experience by a lot.
I've tried approaching Guitar Center and Musician's Friend. No response at all. Need connections to the right people which I don't have.
