New song titled somebody someday
Hey guys how are we all, I've not been on here much since the golden kayak awards, been rather busy in the studio, hence why I'm writing this , I was overwhelmed to receive two nominations for the golden kayak awards, so far with our album I've done all the writing, musically and lyrically, I'd make a demo at home with me playing every instrument, send it to the band to learn, go to the studio.
This new song though is our first attempt at writing as a band, I'd be very interested to know what you think please, my personal opinion is it's our strongest yet, I was able to let go a little more vocally, I think the rest of the band were slightly more passionate recording because it was their own parts not just something they learnt that I had wrote and I think the end is huge, but that's my opinion and, well, I'm probably a bit bias, so please, as I respect your opinions as musicians , what do you think, be honest, shoot me down in flames,, it can only make me a better song writer receiving criticism, it's on the home page now, hope your all well

Hey Craig,

You did a good job on your vocal and there is nothing wrong with it and as you say you let loose a bit more on this song and it gave it energy that was pretty cool.

Maybe its my mood but the female vocal was spectacular and it really meshed with the vibe of the song.

I think your vocal worked really well on the chorus. I would be interested to hear how the female vocal does on the first verse. I think it would carry the entire song perfectly.

The song has a high energy and you can tell that you guys are pumped up while playing.

I enjoy your vocal and I think you do a great job but I only say what I think suits the song.

Ken

Utterly fantastic! Great energy, great song. I would raise the vocals just a tad but
this song is killer ala Meat Loaf meets Elvis Costello meets Heart! Your band rocks the way I love a band to rock. Kudos to all involved.

I agree with everything noted above - Ken and Richard have said it all.

I added this one to our RKR station. Really good work.

Hey ken, thank you so much for your comment, Tara is pretty amazing isn't she, the truth is, I was never suppose to be a vocalist, in all my years in bands I'm the lead guitarist , the band was never suppose to be a band, in fact I was quitting music and was just going to record a couple of songs I'd wrote for my wife, I was going to do it all alone, play every instrument on the record, give to my wife, hang up my guitars, when I recorded never before I thought I wonder how that would sound with female vocals? Like it was a story from both sides, so that's what we done, just me and her,, I got encouraged to continue writing and not being a vocalist at heart asked Tara to stay, to do the bits my limited vocal range couldn't do, plus if we were ever going to gig the album I can't really have her there for one song haha, but she's pretty special I must admit, I'm even considering not singing myself at all and letting her take over, at the min I'm doing both jobs half heartedly, singing to much to play guitar the best of my ability and playing guitar to much to concentrate on my vocal haha

Thank you don I really appreciate that, as I said in a comment I just made I must admit I'm thinking of letting Tara have the reigns completely vocally so I can concentrate more on guitar, thank you for adding

Craig,
I don't think you give yourself enough credit because you are humble. There was another song that you posted about a while ago "One by one" that your vocal was great.

The vocal that you did on this song was quite good and I started off by saying there was nothing wrong with it or how you did it.

I do feel that this particular song the female vocal carried stronger so for this one song I think that is true that does not mean its true for every song. For that matter that I am even right in the first place.

Don't hand in your reigns just yet Craig your singing days have just begun and I hope to hear more from you.

Ken

By the way when I went back and listed to "one by one" I also listened to "shining star" which your lead vocal and the female back up was also great.

I think the fact that you have two talented singers yourself and Tara is something to lean on and gives your album depth.

I think it would be a disappointment to your fans to which I consider myself won over by you to give up that easily.

If I offer production comments or any comment my intention is to make your album be the best it can be. Without you leading the way on at least some songs I don't think it would be all that it could be.

Ken

Hey Husker ~ Although you ignored my post, I'll attempt to impart some advice.
Your are thinking too much!!! Get out of your head and into the heart of the music.
Take it from someone who has worked with hundreds of different singers over the years - I assure you that your voice is excellent for the sound of your band.
To even suggest that you would step aside as lead singer is somewhat daft in my opinion. You need a shot of confidence, my friend. Unfortunately the world is filled with people with much more confidence than talent. With you it's the reverse. Be proud of the natural instrument you were born with. It's truly a unique skill. Of course you and Tara can sing lead on different songs and she also sounds great when you both sing harmony together but to abdicate the role of lead singer entirely to "devote more time to the guitar" is not logical. Bruce Springsteen sings and plays the guitar and you can too. Congrats on having a great band.

Richard

Hi Richard , I didn't mean to ignore your comment and thank you so much for your kind words I'm glad you really like our new song, also thank you for your words of kindness just now, yes I agree I do lack confidence but that's probably because I've always been run down or told I'm useless as a child by people I looked up to, father, brothers ect, also to be honest the other reason I was thinking about Tara doing lead was , as we rehearse more as a band ( were already jamming on stuff for the second album) as we get tighter as a group and fall more into our roles I find in our jams my guitar parts are getting more complicated and truth be told I'm not that good to be able to play those parts and sing, plus as we're jamming , I'm thinking about guitar and Tara doesn't play an instrument so she jams vocally if that makes sense , but I see what your saying, they could just be her songs, I've never had any one say before that I have a good voice so I do lack confidence in what I'm trying to do, thank you again for your vote of confidence

By the way Richard your comment about people have more confidence than talent is possibly one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me, thank you

Craig,
I have had my own bouts of self doubt and sometimes still do. I have had people fall in on both sides some people like me then one that don't really don't and that is ok by me.

I in no way intended to cut you down or shake your confidence at all.

There may be songs as you mentioned where the guitar is more complex and for that reason alone Tara takes the reigns or there may be songs like "one by one" your your vocal just fits better.

If you do what you feel in your heart you can never be wrong no matter what other people say. If you ask others around here I have delivered some pretty harsh criticisms in the past and some people did not care for my truthfulness and they would rather be feed a candy coated pat on the back where others just think that I am so terrible in my own right how could I possibly give advise to others.

I applaud the fact that you are able to look at your own talents and question them and then hone them and refine them that takes guts and determination.

Your work is quite good and you vocals are no slouch. As a fan I look forward to what you have in store for us next.

All the best,
TSC,
Ken
