ARTIST-MADE FM
My answer to all this AI stuff going on.
Artists who do the hard work themselses, lyrics, music, and their own voices.
It does'nt matter if they think their not good singers.
What does matter is that they put themselves out there all on their own.
Bravo.
Norm.

Nice idea Norm , I like it, although I think that it may come across that we are having Suno make up the songs completely which is not true in my case, this is a tool to assist in getting better production and assistance in furthering the quality of the songs. Its like polishing them up. I know myself and Larree and Donna write our own music, melodies, play instruments or have others step in and help us out to assist in our endeavors
I have done all my own songs for years, starting way back in '75, 1975 that is. some songs have been recorded in studios , some in my home studio and a lot are mostly instrumentals acoustic piano, some live at gigs with me singing with acoustic piano, some electric piano with synthesizers some with actual percussion some with samples of percussion etc
The songs I have uploaded to Suno are mine, performed by me whether acoustic, and multi-instrumentalists assisting , some recorded live , i do NOT make up songs at suno, I send in the lyrics or the music doing my own singing which is actually pretty good imo and others have said so as well. I note the ones i used assistance of Suno, but they are copyrighted by me previously, I own the rights to every song i have uploaded here except the covers i have done which i paid to the organizations that represent artists of music that i have used
I have like Larree, Stoneman I am sure Glenn from Lars Mars, Dick Aven (whom I have not show up here for ages) and many others whom will jump in here as well have played live at events gigs working our chops. that is where one really benefits from developing their abilities is play at actual events, performances honing ones skills
anyways, it is a sensitive subject and it is part of the growing trend
did you know 100,000 songs a day are uploaded to Spotify, using Suno, not counting the people who write record and produce their own songs who upload tunes
some tiny percentage actually get through and recognized and actually make a living at this. i do it for fun, yet i know a lot of about the music business and how it works
yeah, its like we are a drop of water in a huge ocean. that is the way it is.
cheers and continued success in what you are doing here bt

Piggybacking off Bryon's post: Anyone can drop a prompt into Suno and come up with something, but we seasoned pros benefit the most from using it as a serious creative compositional tool. That said, I do like keeping my AI creations separate from my other music here on IMP.
Keep up the excellent work, Norm. Thanks for all you do here.

Norm, you're spot on about the importance of doing the hard work and putting oneself out there. (-:
Unfortunately, I’m not able do all of it.
I work together with musicians, as I don't play an instrument or sing. I've been collaborating in this way for two decades. Luckily though, as well as writing the lyrics, I'm able to create melodies, and often contribute these to our songs. My co-writers use them as is, or are free to make adjustments. We confer every step of the way in the song-making process.
Lately, however, I've turned to Suno to help me give life to a few of the two or three hundred lyrics that haven't yet found a musical home. I work hard on my lyrics and on the melodies, and am glad I can contribute at least two important elements to my AI-assisted songs. If I learn one day to get my own voice onto Suno, maybe I'll be able to add a third element to songs that don't require a particularly good voice or a wide vocal range. ;)
I fully understand why some songwriters are averse to using the tool. And believe me, I wish I had their musical skills. But for me, AI has been a blessing, especially since two or three of my best and favourite long-time collaborators are no longer active, due to ill health or a desire to follow their other creative pursuits. And my lyrics keep piling up.
I'd love to meet other musicians who'd be open to an occasional collaboration. But until that happens, I'll need to singlehandedly create homes for my 'babies. ;)
For the time being, this is my way of putting myself out there. (-: But I post my AI-assisted songs separately from my other Artist Page.
I ditto others in thanking you for the work you do here.

Way to go, Norm...keep on rockin', on the best music site ever...
AI-assisted seems a bit different than AI-generated...
Donna, the storytellin' is a large part of the music, props, we are like birds, and
we fly, we sing... one's an invention, the other au naturale, all over the world...
Tweet, tweet, rockin' robin...who wrote that song anyway, great song...

Been there, done that 261 times, using my voice to create poor recordings of songs I posted on this site from 2008 - 2025. I will not post another poorly recorded track ever. Now, AI changed that as I can make my song have the true production it needs to be received. I think AI has been used for quite some time by record label production houses. It is only now available because of SUNO and a couple others.
AI is the perfect tool to change your production from ok to stellar. I will not use Pro Tools without a run through. Until I can get my voice as polished in a production take, I will use Ai singers like Meristolis to do it for me. It is the same as hiring that person in real life except there is no money changing hands. I am not spending thousands of dollars, or spending weeks in the studio just to make two tracks. No, those days are over for me. Destroy the barriers to entry, slam them down including Nashville studios or local engineers who will have to switch just to keep up. I'll do it myself until I get tired of it. I am so grateful I made lousy recordings of my songs. Now, I have the world's best available to sing what I write. I like that. Now I can listen to the songs over and over again. People are actually buying tracks! Moon Pie Momma leads that endeavor. R.C. is smiling.

well the Golden Kayak issue I mentioned was if the song was written by AI. fwiw
I suppose having an AI singer should be included in that.

Just to be clear, all the Ai assisted songs was for production purposes, all the lyrics are mine and i uploaded the music which got refined. No, Ai did not write anything for me , I was asked by the machine, whatever if this is my song(s) I indicate yes and then proceed with my rearrangement or upping the quality,,these are all my own works with assistance, all my own works submitted,, with no words lyrics etc done, just better production and support. All the songs have been around, are registered and copyright at Socanand a number of other places who collect my royalties and when they get played on radio, commercials, shorts in theatres (movie) this are all tracked and monies are forwarded , deposited in my bank automatically on a quarterly basis
but to be clear, i am no longer eligible for golden kayaks by my own request

So does qualification for this channel include exposing drum machines or virtual instruments, midi, or even the fact that we all record on computers with all the editing capabilities, software like Melodyne, pitch correction stuff, loops, and all the crap built into your sequencer of choice these days? I remember all the fights over the same issues when midi first came out. It happened again when computers replaced that old real to real. Just sayin' that everyone draws the line somewhere.I have always strayed over many "lines" that people and groups draw or try to draw for others, as far back as the early 60's!! Even live performances these days have real time pitch correction, pre programed canned stuff, etc. Evolution is always painful. My point is this is difficult for everyone who is old! Heck, while back in college at UCSD, if you were into popular music, you were looked down upon. The rouges like me were at CME (Center for Music Experiment) developing midi along with Stanford and IRCOM in France. The goal then, (this was early/mid 70's-late 80's) was to bring a complete pro studio to the desktop. That goal has been exceeded now. Reminds me of old gold rush days. It wasn't the miners getting rich, it was those who sold them the tools, supplies, etc. that got rich. This has all happened before. When disco arrived in the late 70's many of the best clubs for live music eliminated hiring bands altogether, and the old fashioned way of doing things was gone. Be a survivor! Enjoy and embrace change. We all simply need to adapt. It's always been that way.

Thanks Lance for you input and statement on the growth of music technology and various systems that help us indies and musicians who have grown with the changes since back in the day. I started off in the classical training in piano history theory harmony and when I was 19 started jazz lessons with one of the top players in vancouver for about 6 months , My teacher Alan Wold ( instructor at Cap College was getting me ready to perform in clubs in and during that time. I was progressing but got involved with pop rock and the early country rock bands and that became my preferred music in the early 70s.
I still write classical music and jazz songs for piano as well as a variety of other styles and collab with artists here and ones that I have played in bands in the last 20 years from vancouver and on the island (vancouver Island)
Indiemusicpeople has been a great place for my growth as a musician, but first as a station manger for years and bringing artists and bands here during the time i was in the promotions biz and manager of bands as well
Yes exciting times, and it has seemed to give me a boost of late, and thanks to Larree who inspired me to check out Suno. so Suno or later I think many of us will be trying it out as well as other AI

What a long strange trip it has been! I need to cut back on my pot prescription! I posted a new song (actually the same one I posted a while back "This Day Would Come". I uploaded it to Suno and used the Cover" this song button. It did the rest. I downloaded the stems, replaced some synths and glitches with new tracks, added and fixed guitars. Then processed each track before re-mastering. What I like about this is how it fixed some rhythm issues for me instantly.

I just checked, and you're right, Norm.
I knew this was going to get complicated. It just bugged me when Holworks announced that all his songs are going to use AI and then you came on right after him basically saying all his songs will be ineligible. Seemed too harsh. but I guess if we're going to draw a line, best we draw a line, eh?
