It's Coming To An End... for me
The 2020 Josie Music Award Nomination list is finally here! I checked it, and guess what happened? No nominations. Heartbroken. I didn't make it to the JMA nomination list! Feels like it's coming to an end. ????????????

Don't stop! You have a world of sound of your own to explore. Keep making music for you! And, of course, share it with us when you do.

Yeah never heard of the JMA either - DON'T let this discourage you - keep being happy with your tunes for sure. Everyone needs all the music they can get right now and with everything streaming everywhere, none of us have any real way to know who's getting what they need from a song you wrote.

I’ve lost many song competitions over the years and I’ve won or placed 2nd in many. Both the losses and wins haven’t changed my life much for the better or the worse. Rejection is a major part of trying to make it in the arts. Art is very subjective and the people who choose winners
of contests can be very arbitrary in their choices. That has nothing to do with your ability to write great songs or your potential as an artist. Don’t give up!!!!!!!!

Shawn,
When my two daughters were old enough to read, I gave them each a plaque of the following poem, 'DON'T QUIT' to hang on the wall in their bedrooms. They had a chance to read it every day through their primary, secondary and post-secondary education. Through the obstacles and challenges - of which there are many for us all, they never quit, and became successful in their own right.
DON’T QUIT
'When things go wrong, as they sometimes will
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill
When funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile but you have to sigh
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don't you quit
Life is queer with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won if he'd stuck it out
Don't give up, though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup
And he learned too late, when the night slipped down
How close he was to the golden crown
Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems afar
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit'
My own motto in life below has served me well through the years.
'It is not what we lose in life, it's what we're left with and what we do with it.'
Press on, do what you love to do for your own sake, and think not about the end.

I have won a lot of music competitions. I have also lost a lot of them. I have lost a whole lot more than I have won. One loss does not mean anything. Several losses means nothing. It is great joy to win but the greater joy is in the creative part. Starting from scratch and pulling melodies out the air and putting them in song form. That is quite a skillful thing to be able to do. You must concentrate on the positives. The negatives will always be there. Just ignore them as they are just like negative people, not worth the time to even listen. Keep doing what you do and trust that it is good enough to win. The race is not given to the swift or the strong, but to those who endure until the end. Keep running the race and trust in yourself no matter what. You may not have been nominated or won this one but there is always the next competition to get ready for. Much Respect! Stoneman
