Analogue vs digital
I have been trying out some electro harmonix pedals the memory man the pog and the little big muff. I have to say after using digital simulations of guitar amps and efx i think that they can,t hold a candle to the real analogue gear there is just something so wonderful about the real time control of the pedals that seems slightly disturbing when u start taking them to the extreme. Especially the memory man which can make some whacked out noises no wonder hendrix was so keen on it. I tried plugging it into my microkorg omfg especially in conjunction with the other 2 who needs drugs and booze. When you can press one key on the microkorg and completely lose yourself in a maelstrom of insanity for a couple of hours. The only reservations i have no midi control and only mono which is knitpicking really.

I spent a couple of years recently fretting about my old amp (a 70s Fender Vibrolux Reverb) for a variety of reasons...wound up having new capacitors put in, replaced all the tubes (has about 11 or 13 I think) and even bought a speaker attenuator because my ultimate problem was I couldn't get the crunchy "REAL" tone I wanted unless the amp was too loud. Then one day I plugged a Gibson SG into a Vox AC-30 at GuitarUniverse (lol) and HAD TO HAVE IT...the addition of a "master volume" so you can crank up the tube crunch and still play without splitting your ear drums is THE ANSWER as far as I'm concerned...all this after years of using amp simulators and wondering why it didn't sound like I wanted...so...I hear you! Do it up!

I had a great little JSH analogue delay unit which really gave a great sound, with knobs on :)
unfortunately it developed an onboard ac/dc power supply prob, so I donated it to a mushroom juice drinking music making postman :)

Speaking of tubes, there's an old distortion pedal a friend of mine uses called "Real Tube" and it is the best thing of its sort that I've ever tried. I haven't tried too many - have an old RAT but don't like it much. I've kind of oohed-and-ahhed over those EH pedals though - they do look nice. And their pedal-style preamp got some favorable attention a couple years ago, but seems to maybe have fallen out of favor.
Hey, what's the harm in a little gear porn...? lol
Rock!!

For a digital dude like myself analogue gear is heaven i,m still waiting for the soundcard with valves for the soundstage. How about a Vox powered valve amplifier card for computers that would be nice
