SuperPuss plays Progressive Refrigerator Rock!.....um WHAT??!!!
You probably clicked this topic to find out what the hell 'Progressive Refrigerator Rock' is right?
Well, it is prog rock inspired by the sound of a droning refrigerator in the supermarket!!
On one of my recent grocery shopping trips, I was stopped in my tracks by a mesmerising drone from a faulty ice cream fridge. Seriously, it was kinda loud, but it was a perfect note and had a modulating effect like s great big stereo chorus pedal. I just stood there and listened to it for about five minutes!!!
Well, I guess some of the shoppers thought I had gone mad but the sound had such an impact on me that my head just filled with music. As soon as I got home, I unpacked half of the groceries while my PC booted up and then I started re-creating the drone using my synths while the sound was fresh in my head.
What eventuated was a song I have ultimately dedicated to global warming. It starts of reasonably quietly with a lush vocoded vocal and the building fridge drone and evolves in true prog rock style to a wall of punchy drums, synth solos and effects and fat analog sequenced basslines.
I filmed most of the takes in the studio and will start editing a video clip for it next week.
I hope you all enjoy 'Outburst' as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Check it out at the top of my song list on my artist page by clicking the 'SuperPuss' link below.

Brings to mind a conversation I had with a re-knowned Producer once about Perfect Pitch v's Relative Pitch!!!
Perfect Pitch = Foghorn goes off and being able to say thats Eb!
Relative Pitch = Knowing Foghorn is Eb and being able to sing a C!

Your refrigerator story reminds me of the story I heard about when Adrian Belew was scouting sounds around NYC for King Crimson. He heard what he thought to be a band playing down a blind alley. He followed the sound for a couple of blocks, and it turned out to be an air conditioning unit. He was inspired by it as well. Incidentally, I like "Outburst". Great message and some serious keyboard work.

Cheers guys :-)
TC,
Great pitch examples. I'm pretty sure the fridge was in D minor......it's the saddest of all keys you know!! Oh, and the fridge was on '11' and had the most incredible sustain!
srm,
That;s a pretty cool story about Adrian Belew. That must've been one pretty oddball air con unit to be mistaken for a band!!!
Glad you like 'Outburst' too. I am working on the video clip right now and should have it online in a couple of hours. I'll post it on the pipeline here once it's done. :-)

Tatiana, my time is so limited I haven't been able to get to alot of music at IAC that I am intending to. Your blog post caught my eye and I took the time to listen to more of your music today, and it is.. excellent. I didn't realize you played guitar too. Excellent. Listening to Valentine as I type.

LOL @ pitching fridges Hugh!!! Good one!
Glad you like my new drum and synth meanderings :-)
Lace,
Thanks so much hon.... and thank you too for adding Valentine to your station.
I just added "Behind Blue Eyes" to my top 20 station too. That is a superb cover of a great song. Nice work. :-)

35 degrees is a warm one... You could always do a Homer Simpson and pitch a tent in front of that fridge!!
