*** My new funk rock drum video in 15/8 time ***
It was this time twelve months ago that I first started my journey playing drums and bought home the humble beginnings of my SuperPuss kit so I figured I'd mark the occasion with a new video clip.
As you will see from this clip, my kit has somewhat expanded and now includes a number of DIY (Do It Yourself) addons, those being....
* Conversion of my Rototoms to electronic
* 3 new DIY 8" toms converted from acoustic toms (I will be adding five more of these as soon as the Roland mesh heads arrive for them)
* Conversion of my 13" Pearl floor tom to electronic
* Construction of my custom 22" electronic gong
I have also added two new modules to my kit so the electronics now include the top of the line Roland TD20 module, my previous TD12 module and the addition of a TMC-6 expander for more inputs.
The backing pattern in this clip is from the TD20 module. I added a keyboard solo to it after recording the drum track. So, here's the clip....

Excellent stuff. Ti. I especially like the 'odd' time signature. Your kit IS expanding rapidly. It's almost a musical roll cage. (p.s.- the gong is cool).

My drummer buddy (Dean) and I were thinking of you when we visited MondoMusicWorldSuperStore recently and tried out some Roland V-Kits...they are pretty groovy and there might be a V-Kit in my future, but for the moment I decided to go with a couple of new mics...so you can be sure ole Hugo will be lurking around watching the development of your "cage" - nice work on the kit and the drumming and the video, T! Rock ON!
H
And P.S. Mr. Aven is a fan of "interesting" time signatures - you keep playing stuff like 15/8 and you're gonna run the risk of catching HIS attention (lol)...

Great job Ti!! You've come a long way in a short time with those drums. It makes things a lot easier when abilities and music understanding seems to come natural........ Yes?
Good stuff!

that is Hot!!
You have a cool feel, good time, and a prety individual approach.
A lot of my solo stuff is is peculiar time sigs.
I could never get the band interested in performing them, so I Got a couple drummers I know to track drums to my bass playing and did the rest myself.
Like the sound of the modual you're using, Love the feel of those Mesh Heads!
huh?
My son is a drummer and really wants a V Kit , he gets me to sit down and play one every time were at the music store and the lectures me about how all of our drum Micing problems would be solved if I'd just step up for the $2500 V kit!
HA HA!!
he has point...but he also has job so he's gonna have to do the "stepping Up"
I think the odd time pieces I've uploaded are
Keeping Up
Open Up
Nine Lives
I'd love to play guitar on one of your pieces, if you ever want to try that...
just for fun..
huh?

Cool! I'm too dumb to play in odd times...
I like the Afgan on the couch too. Those things are a dime a dozen at auctions and yard sales here. I wonder why? They're so neat and always hand-made by some loving woman.

Thanks heaps guys :)
Steve.. LOL @ the 'roll cage' comment!! That's cool 8-)
Hugo, I'm loving messing around with odd time signatures and have always been fascinated by them. My recent rekindling of this sort of experimentation was inspired by meeting Gavin Harrison at his drum clinic. The guy is an odd time signature genius!
What mics did you get?
Duane, I have indeed found drums to come naturally and yes, I think that makes a BIG difference. :)
Never Never, I'm listening and LOVING your funky tunes right now. It's great to hear from another time sig experimentalist too 8-)
The Roland V modules are AMAZING, especially the TD12 and TD20. I am in the process of replacing all my rubber PD8 toms with mesh ones I have built myself. The mesh heads are SO much more natural to play. I'll be using my PD8 rubber pads as other percussion instruments soon.
I'd love to collaborate on something with you. That would be fun. Especially in an odd time sig ;-)
I have a couple of collaborations in the works right now and a few other probabilities lined up. Collaborating is a wonderful thing and the net and sites like IAC have made it so much more fruitful and viable.
BTW - is the intro in 'Open Up' in 23/8? That is so cool :)
...oh, and Nine Lives... cool and feline =^.^=
Kozy, that particular rug has a special meaning to me. It was hand made by my Mum. My cat loves it too :)

Hi, T - I got a Coles 4038 (developed by the BBC, for years the "Ringo overhead" mic) and an Electro-Voice RE20 (commonly used as a vocal mic for radio broadcasting, but also a kickass kick/tom/bass amp mic...yahoo! The drums have been out of my studio for a good 6 or 8 months now - they're coming back in July and we're going to be working hard on getting them mic'ed up properly...I think we're "nearly there"...
I put both of the new mics to work on Dick Aven's "Hold Me Over" this week - he sent me a guitar and lead vocal track and I did the rest - mic'ed the bass amp with the RE20 and used the Coles on lead guitar, banjo, shaker and tambo...had already recorded the other tracks with the C414...

Thanks Troy :)
Hugo, those are some classy mics!! I would love a pair of Coles ribbons to go with my C414.
I'm listening to 'Hold me Over' now and that is one VERY sweet recording and performance! Such a lovely warmth and presence. Simply beautiful :-)
The EV RE20 is one of my favourite kick and bass mics too and it sounds wonderful on double bass and cello.
Cool purchases. 8-)

It's amazing how much difference adding some real percussion parts to your drum machine will make..... Just ask Phil Collins ;-)
