This question is very complex.

It is indeed - but I would reverse it and ask if a good rock musician can be a politician? I would suggest that the answer is "no" because being a good musician somehow expands the consciousness creating integrity and honesty....

Generally speaking, musicians are too intelligent to seek political office. And politicians lack the intelligence to be great musicians. So sayeth Hugo.

How did Sonny Bono do as mayor? Bob Geldof and U2's Bono have followed the lead of George Harrison regarding charitable gigs designed to lead by example and pressure the politicos without having to actually hold office. At every layer of bureaucratic political life the public servants seem generally to forget that they are there to SERVE the public.

Good God, Man, don't get me STARTED!

I'm surprised Larree ain't in on this thread, plugging NOBODY FOR PRESIDENT...so I'll do it...

I was president of my elementary school student body, by the way. I won election on a platform promising a soda machine in every classroom...BWAHAHAHAH! The power nearly corrupted me...

xxoo,
HH

Well I can tell you that I'd definitely vote or campaign for Springsteen or Neil Young if they ran for office. On the other hand I wouldn't vote for Bono or Sting.
