Recording/Video Live Performance (went well, pix)
Hello...had a fun gig last night as Joe Jack Talcum's faithful companion on dobro, banjo, and shaker/tambo/bongos. Although it was recorded and video'ed it was a nice lowkey livingroom-style performance with about 30 folks present. Here are a couple nice pics from last night [(c) 2009 Nina Sabatino, all rights reserved, used with permission]:

(1) Hugh and Joe:

(2) Johnny Cash (I'm pretty sure he's talking to Larree), Hugh and AJ, who was the event's host and who recorded us. Here he's introducing me to the concept of "microphone" (lol) - actually, he was showing me some nice mics he got through internet "group purchases" - I haven't heard them yet, but they sure are purty:

(3) Hugh, Joe, and Marshall Fischer on bongos (probably "Yesterday I Was Talking To My Sister"):

Thanks SamCat!

Just got this pic in, showing Paul Skozilas (who opened for us with a few tunes) with a broader view of the "set" which was a rehearsal space in a warehouse building, set up livingroom style; I believe that's John Huebner over by the door, who helped us as stage tech and who is AJ's bandmate in The Stinging Nettles:

I'll surely let you know if/when the audio and/or video recordings get publicly released...may be a bit of fun...!

I recognize the Sennheiser 421 mic, H.

The mic you're both looking at in the pic above ... looks a bit like a Karma tube mic ... is that what it is? Do you know?

Hi everybody and thanks for looking and saying hi...

Kev, that's a tube condenser mic - a Chinese knockoff from an inexpensive "internet group buy" - I think it may have had a logo with a K/M kinda thang going on but I had a lot on my mind. The little Royer-looking ribbon mic over my dobro is from the same type of deal. They sure looked real nice - I'm eager to hear how they sound, ain't heard nuthin' yet...

Yeah, the Karma are Chinese mics ... but they sound really good ...

This is what they look like:

The grill pattern above reminded me of the Karmas, but comparing now, I'm not so sure ... the trunk of the mic above looks a tad longer.

btw ... they don't actually glow purple in real life.

:^D

Best,

K-
