how much is too much
How often do you guys gig and when is it too much?

At the moment we are playing once or twice a week, which is a helluva lot a fun, but when does it become too much and become a negative effect?

A few years ago we were playing 4 times a week most weeks.
That was too much.

It's only ever too much for YOU, when in the hours and minutes before stting off to a gig, you're thinking that you'd rather do something else that evening!
If that happens, cut back before you lose the desire to do at all anymore.

Bored of playing live can that actually happen?

I was coming more from an over saturation of the market view.

Hookay, quick wisdom (I'm thinkin') off the top of my head.

Had a BUNCH of friends in much more successful (locally) Punk Bands than myself, in the last few years, that found out that any more than 4-6 times a month becomes a losing battle. Now THIS is only if you're talkin' LOCALLY. Because your friends and fans simply won't be able to get out to see you that much.

I'm sure in THIS economy that is even more true. Admitedly, WE currently are struggling to get up to the 4 times a month mark, but in October have 3 gigs, so not TOO bad in the coming Fall (for starters... but nothing currently booked beyond those 3 gigs right now until NEW YEARS NITE).

Anyhoo, I think that as Product Recall is hopefully playing ALL OVER your nearby regions of England, it's a GOOD thing right now to play as much as possible, to help push that KILLER new CD of yours, "LIQUOR in the FRONT, PoKER round the Back..." and to sell other merch if you've got it, and keep building that fan base for YOURSELVES and (a selfish wish, obviously) build the fanbase for ROMULUS X RECORDS UK...

BUT, YES, probably in a couple of months, if you cannot grow the boundaries of the Regions of the UK that you are playing, or even tour EUROPE and beyond, you should probably drop the gigs down a bit.
This will help avoid the law of diminishing returns.
As you put it, School, Market over-saturation.
If you ARE able to tour abroad and all over, somehow, than giging 15-20 times a MONTH isn't even too much, in my opinion! That's how you phuckin' BLOW that SHIT up.

FOR NOW, play like the maniacal madmen that you are, and get the word out and the CD out, and SELL copies, and build that fanbase!

With 2 gigs a week, y'all are fuckin' completely ROCKIN' it, on the cusp of the recent release of your INCREDIBLE music!

RAWK !!!!

-your pal, and future Romulus X Records UK hopeful, pHLeGmie
