The definition of love. Were the Beatles wrong?
And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make
Makes it sound like a selfish thing, doesn't it? Maybe since they were talking about making love they were talking about sex, which is generally a more selfish thing, as at some point in the encounter you are surely thinking about your own orgasm.
I tend to think of love more as an unselfish thing. This attitude that you want to give the best of you to someone not expecting anything in return. Or is that worship?
Can love be defined or is it a wave that comes over you that is almost uncontrollable? Can somebody deliberately set out to love or is it something that is generated by the soul, originating from a place where there are no buttons or switches to use to start it up?
Lennon was most right when he sang All You Need Is Love because I've found that in the few times in my life I've been in the vicinity of love, everything else didn't matter too much at these times.
There's also this other side of love, whereas love is the only thing that can cause you true, deep, unquenchable pain. When you love, take love, as the Beatles sang, do you suddenly have something to lose? Is that real love, or is that having to do with possession? Is wanting to possess someone an act of love or confusion? I've always felt naturally inclined to want to possess those who I love. Likewise I don't mind being possessed. I had a few years of love with a female artist who would sing to me See the Pyramids across the nile blahblah You belong to me. It was a comforting feeling but was it love? Seemed like it at the time.
The Beatles sang Can't Buy Me Love but I think they were wrong about that one too cause I have a lady who's been in my life for awhile who would surely love me more if I had more money. :~D
Is craving the company of someone love? Is needing someone's love 8 Days A Week love or is it obsession or co-dependence? Modern thinking on the topic of love seems to complicate things, doesn't it?
She loves you, and you know that can't be bad. I wanna hold your hand. Isn't it that simple? Or is it as complicated as the long and winding road that leads to her door? If I fell in love with you would you promise to be true and help me understand?

If you fell in love with me I'd shout "HELP! I NEED SOMEBODY!! Won't you PLEASE, PLEEEEEASE HELP ME???"
Let it be, my winged friend. I whisper words of wisdom, Let it be.

But it's about being able to love yourself - because only then can you love anything or anyone else!

Maybe they were talking about Agape Love, or principal Love, Brotherly Love, and the cause and effect return from Karma, of actually showing Love to strangers, which is what Agape implies. To ancient cultures, there were many kinds of Love, as I think there are now. Everyone wants to "make Love", at one point, or another in thier life. But I think it takes a lot of real effort to exercise Agape Love, as I know for myself, I am instinctively suspicious of "strangers". I see the workings of that Brotherly Love on the pages of this network, for sure.
Love and infinite Peace, now
Yes we can

Well dear fly, I've had lots of time to think of these things while filling burritos, so with all my infinite roach wisdom I bequeath this offering ~ may it serve the totality of your being in the pursuit of your expression of love.
In the words of Kahlil Gibran - "Love possesses not nor would it be possessed" and "Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself." this is similar to "the love you take is equal to the love you make." Also the love you feel is a direct result of what you are willing to give of yourself to another. It is not another person who makes you feel love but rather your inept or adept way of giving of yourself what you are willing to have, and what you risk directly results in what you take. In this way loving yourself is primary to being able to love anyone else.

I feel some love coming on right now.

Lyin Dan, yours is such a pure love. :~D
"Love possesses not nor would it be possessed" and "Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself." this is similar to "the love you take is equal to the love you make."
How is it similar, Roach? I see now why you're considered a small-brained insect.
John Fry, that thing wasn't directed at you but at the guy who posted 4 of them in one day, but touche! :~D
I'm disappointed by the group's response to this blog. I'll have to remember to spend less energy on my next dissertation. blehh

Dan, is so very pure in His ::expression:: of love! ;~D
Alright fly, I will spell it out... but only because I love ~ will I do.
~ "Love gives naught but itself and takes naught from itself" is similar to "the love you take is equal to the love you make."
To simplifly!.... The love you get is equal to the love you gave..... which if applied only to sex, one's satisfaction would either be completely one-sided or the highest, most sacred ~ tantric art.
~ "Love possesses not nor would it be possessed"
Simply stated, this is about unconditional, non-objectified love... where in the case of a relationship, two are able to love with mutual respect, nurturing and supporting each other, giving of themselves from the wellspring of love they each offer to the other. Just how deep your willing to give reflects exactly in what you draw from the relationship. So who looses by skimming the surface? When secure in your expression of love there is comfort to know without question the devotion of the other, yet also allowances for whatever is needed in their individual growth. Love is not a prison unless you make it so, and the heart losing fear can begin to know peace.
In allegory ~ unconditional, un-objectified love might have lived somewhere between Marilyn Monroe's doormat and the bed sheet her body laid upon. For certain it dwells within the innocence of the inner child, and not from the external world where we shower each other in devote adoration. :~D
Just my simple minded thoughts... you asked!

The definition of love.....
"4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails... 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
That's alot of love to live up to.........

Bad and wicked love is acceptable. I do wonder though if you're the kind who kills her prey afterwards. :~D
It's a little known fact, I should add, that Barry White played Regan's demonic voice in the Exorcist. Your mothah ........

Love is real , real is love
Love is feeling , feeling love
Love is wanting to be loved
Love is touch, touch is love
Love is reaching, reaching love
Love is asking to be loved
Love is you
You and me
Love is knowing
we can be
Love is free, free is love
Love is living, living love
Love is needed to be loved
(John Lennon)
PS: btw, I really like the cover of this song by ... the cure 8-)
