FUJI MINX - You Tube Experiment - Reach new fans or Cheap ploy?
So... we tried something that many indie artists are starting to do. Wait for a Major hit song to come out then video tape yourself covering it to catch some of the interest of the people looking for that song. So here is the video of John & Greta form FUJI MINX coving Leona Lewis' song "Bleeding Love". (She won the UK version of American Idol and now Simon Cowell & Universal Music have released her "hit" in the US as well)
Leona's main music video has 47 MILLION hits, this was posted yesterday and has about 100 in a day...we'll see what happens. What are your thoughts on this? Cheap ploy or good idea?

Also, besides the song itself, youtubers will love the way Greta's thigh quivers. Might wanna use more of that next time. And change the color of the link next time to white.

There is no better ploy than a CHEAP one ! .. ha !
..... one thing though .... Greta is way over dressed ... keep the gloves though ... :)

Nice cover and a good idea.
Perhaps you could take it a step further and write your own song called
"Bleeding love" and you'd still get the hits and also show the world what great songwriters you are.

You guys work so hard to succeed in a brutal business.
Raymond's idea is brilliant too! Do both (the cover and your original of the same name) and be sure to plug the other in each one -- two plays for sure that way.
Best to FM, you deserve fame, fortune, respect -- the works.

Fair enough. I posted one of my own songs called "Runaway Train" on YouTube. At that stage I didn't even know about the Soul Asylum or Tom Petty songs of the same name. I got about 100 hits a day for the first few days - I guess most were looking for the better known versions originally. But the spin off is I'm still getting 35-40 hits a day a couple of months later.

Gotta say - the TRUE cheap ploy would be to do your own songs but post the titles of "popular songs" to draw people in...lol...maybe I'll do that one...

Greta idea Raymond & those about naming a new song ...we do that alot accidentally...like our song Bye Love was orginally "bye bye love" and "Secret Agent"..."Secret Agent Man"... but should at least name them that on you tube or write a new one like Ray said.
haha Hugh what's funny is I ACTUALLY AM holding a plastic egg shaker the whole time but forgot to use it! haha You should have been there for me!
And the actual lyric is "you" but I was scretly singing "Hugh"! ;)

Hey yeah, that's a'cheap ploy' but why waste money on an expensive one :-)
If it works for you it's gotta be good. Raymonds idea about writing you're own song with the same or similar title makes sense too.

We have 2 vids up on UTube and over the last 18 months only have a combined total views of c2,800!

Super smart promotion idea, and will DEFINITELY work, as people accidentally click on YOUR version. Which of course will bring new viewers/listeners.
Uh...We are working with a new phenomena of the younger crowd that I'm sure some of y'all are aware of... That whole ROCK BAND/ GUITAR HERO video game phenomena? GUESS what, somebody already beat me to the idea of writing MODS that allow YOUR songs to be on it. BUT, Currently the TWO companies that are (illegally?) doing this, do NOT allow for UNKNOWN artists (Indie artists) music. As soon as they start doing CUSTOM mods for Indie Artists, I'm gonna be the first one to sign up! 'Cause if you check the WEB, when you look for a famous artists video of a SONG, the GUITAR HERO/ROCK BAND versions of those songs have HIGHER hits then some of the actual videos!
I shit you not! Just google for ANY Sublime Video, for example!
My point being, EVEN IF nobody EVER downloads CONVERSATION SUICIDE or FUJI MINX Guitar hero mods, so they can play the game to INDIE artist music, YOU would still bring people to the VIDEO of that MOD being played, if they we're bored with the (currently 10) mainstread MOD adds that are available.
BASICALLY, NOW is the time, before these games generate a MILLION and ONE Famous Artists mods, to get INDIE artists & GARAGE band artists mods UP ON THE WEB. While the game is so loved by youngsters, 20-40 yr old geeks, and musician wannabes ( who are scared or feel they can't write their own music), and has SO FEW actual songs to learn and play.
Is anybody getting this? I explained it to my kids and they instantly understood the power XBOX & PLAYSTATION have for MANY music listeners, with the new ROCK BAND & Guitar Hero craze.
I promise I'll let you know as soon as the possibility for creating INDIE Artist Guitar HERO or ROCK BAND mods becomes a reality. (Unless of course, somebody else beats me 2 it!)
