Bat Lenny presents a Life Inside
We'd like to invite everyone to listen to our latest song:

Life Inside

Can a song be melancholy and invigorating at the same time? A Bat Lenny song can. This one is dessert for the soul.

I knew I was going to like this even before it started....because it's Bat Lenny....and they have the secret formula for turning music into mind trips. Arty but accessible...Clap, clap clap!

Really enjoying the play, Bat Lenny....I like the way the bass line moves around melodically. Very hooky.

There isn't the slightest doubt in my mind that this is my favourite Bat Lenny toon ever.

Singing, playing, arrangement and lyrics -- ALL PERFECT!!

I can't tell you how much I like it.

Wow! Thanks everyone. We've had this song "finished" for a few years now but I never felt it was good enough to share. So I retooled it and applied some of the magic I've learned since we did it and finally felt it was ready.

This song was written mostly by Mark Thompson (The Nail), the guy with the voice. I'll make sure he tunes in to this blog. He'll be quite thrilled.

Hey Stegor,
Excellent some "new" Bat Lenny. You know I dig you guys.

The vocals sound very much like the doors (that is a good thing). The bass line is trippy and keeps wandering circles around my ears. Drums are also well done with accents here and full out rock n roll there is a nice blend of beats. The rythme guitar was played well but it seemd pushed back in the mix and sounded a little tinny. I think this was intentional and fits the song giving it a bright edge. The production and effects done on the voice great. The entire mix was top notch.

Well done Stegor! you are now the cubase master.
I hope I learn to use it as well as you do one day (I'm still a rookie at cubase).
Meet with a professional studio 48 tracks that uses cubase 4. I tell you man I could not stop drooling. Thank god I did not drip on his console.
Just thought you would find that tidbit interesting since your a cubase guy.

On another topic. When viewing your latest song I was really struck by the artwork. I have been admiring your art from afar for some time now and I have to say that I am really impressed. I wonder if you would consider doing an album cover for me? I would like to keep my current design but maybe have you touch it up?

Sorry for getting off topic I tend to ramble some days. Great job on the song. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Ken. I have a real love/hate thing going with Cubase. We've been using it for years and I'm finally feeling like I'm tapping into it's power. But it still takes days to mix and master a song. I always have to listen to it in several different situations, the car, headphones, a good stereo, a bad stereo, wait 'till the next day and listen again... I don't know if that will ever change, but the end result gets better.

I also want to emphasize the importance of mastering. I'm not saying I'm a pro at it yet - I'm still training my ears. But the more you do it the more you start to recognize certain aspects of the mix. I won't name names, but there are some songs on IAC that I'm sure were professionally recorded, mixed and mastered, and yes, are in the Big 50, but I think are very difficult to listen to. They are really LOUD, which is part of the mastering process, but there are some frequencies that make music fatiguing. When I compare what we do to music produced in multi-million dollar studios, yeah, I can tell the difference, but it is amazing to me how close we can come. When i say we, I mean all of us DIY Indies with a few thousand dollars, a pair of ears and a passion for high fidelity.

As for the artwork, I'm always thinking about ways to combine art with music. What do you have in mind? I've never applied artwork to any music except our own. I'm not sure how it would work... thinking... hmmm....

Well I was thinking maybe you could poilsh up the design I have going Stegor style.
I'd love to see what you come up with.

I know what you mean about cubase it takes me hours to work on my songs then when I think I got it right I have to re-do it another 3 times. Cubase can produce excellent quality sound if you know how to use it. At the studio I went to he has been using cubase for a long time.
As for mastering I only use mastering houses that only do mastering an have been at it for years. Mastering is touchy its not about just making it "loud" its polishing the final mix from the studio.
