POWERFUL NEW SONG OF THE TIMES
The following press release was issued earlier this evening. I will be uploading the song to my page by the weekend.

September 29, 2020

NEIL w YOUNG – songwriter, recording artist and author in Paris, Ontario, Canada has collaborated with musician Michael Gogol in Celle, Germany, to produce the upcoming release of Neil’s newest song, “WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE WORLD COMING TO” – music composed by Michael, lyrics by Neil and performed by Neil in his ‘born in the dust’ vocals – a powerful, compelling and riveting song with a ringing message defining the uncertain, challenging and perilous times we are in.

The release is scheduled to be premiered in an official video on YouTube, followed by the song being uploaded in mp3 format to a network of digital streaming platforms including Apple iTunes, Spotify, Google Music Store, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Deezer, Shazam and Sound Exchange among others.

Congrats, Neil! I’m so proud of you!

The title alone gets an A+ in my book.
I’m sure the rest of the song will be just as great.

I fervently hope the song brings you all the accolades and success you so richly deserve.

I’ve always considered you to be a consummate
artist and wordsmith. They say a picture is worth
a thousand words. In your song writing, a word is worth a thousand pictures. Paint away our pain my friend. Even the sky is not the limit.

Thank you Norm, Dolores and Richard. I appreciate your kind words and support.

I'm processing the track this morning through the various registration platforms - always a tedious task.

Looking forward to hearing a new Neil W. Young song.

Neil's songs tend to be adventurous chronicles, feat. innocence/experience, happy/sad, w an excellent band, and excellent production values.

"In the American grain" I remarked in a review once, recalling a book by William Carlos Williams, mountains, valleys, and rivers galore.

Thank you, Steve, for your generous compliments. I’m hoping not to disappoint any expectations when the ‘song’ is uploaded.

When I brought Michael’s music to my producer, his first words were, “I don’t know what you can do with this, Neil.”

I replied, “I do,” as I had already written the lyrics, and knew it was going to be a ‘bare-knuckler’ … 4 minutes, 9 verses, 4 choruses and no holds barred.

I felt redeemed when my mastering engineer emailed me and said, “Wow, such a stylistic departure for you Neil! Congrats and such a powerful message you're sending on some very important issues.”

Whenever the chips have been down, I have always been prepared to live or die on my own production calls.

With thanks and humble appreciation to more support than I could ever have imagined when I began this journey, I consider myself fortunate to still be standing in this arena.

'Song' uploaded today. Official video nearing completion.

Lyrics:

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE WORLD COMING TO

What in the world is the world coming to
When the people you trust just won’t tell you the truth
How can so many people believe so many lies
Spread by those from behind a disguise

They only tell you what they want you to hear
They’re not what they seem or what you believe
They’ll paint you a picture they want you to see
And when you peel back the paint you’ll see that you’ve been deceived

What in the world is the world coming to
An uncertain future and a past that is hard to defend
What a sorrowful state we find ourselves in
Will we ever see life close to normal again?

They know your weakness that you just want more and more
They fill your head with false hope and promises galore
Just give them your vote they preach and implore
And they promise they’ll give you the keys to the store

You’ll stand in line for hours just to get to the door
Just to find the place empty, four walls and a floor
You’ll find you were sold a pig in a poke
Bare-faced lies that you bought with your vote

We have the right to peaceful protest and to take a knee
Not to see one used to hear a black man cry out, “Mama, I can’t breathe.”
We stand for justice and we stand for peace
Not for vigilante thugs and armed commandos in the streets

What in the world is the world coming to
An uncertain future and a past that is hard to defend
What a sorrowful state we find ourselves in
Will we ever see life close to normal again?

We had so much promise not all that long ago
Politicians told us just what they wanted us to know
The future looked so bright we were led to believe
Little did we know the plans they had up their sleeves

Little did we know that so many harboured hate
That they believed that theirs was the chosen race
And that they believed black and brown was less than white
So pray tell how do two wrongs make them right?

What in the world is the world coming to
An uncertain future and a past that is hard to defend
What a sorrowful state we find ourselves in
Will we ever see life close to normal again?

The world and democracies torn apart at the seams
By greed, hate and violence and fake conspiracies
Hope, dreams and plans all crashed and burned
By a pandemic virus that has swallowed the world

Surely all this madness will soon come to an end
And that truth and respect and common sense will win
And that all the haters can be brought to their knees
Not to hear someone cry out, “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.”

What in the world is the world coming to
An uncertain future and a past that is hard to defend
What a sorrowful state we find ourselves in
Will we ever see life close to normal again?

And a true departure with no holds barred it is. So much so that I had to stop and think about where to place this one in my collection of stations. Well I did it. Hope it suits it well.

The subject matter is so much with the times that it could open up discussions on many platforms and them some.

I guess you really had to get this one out to liberate yourself of that craziness you talk about.

If we could only all do the same in such a constructive way.

Thank you, Norm. I'm honoured to have the track added to your collection of stations.

Writing the lyrics was a cleansing of the soul so to speak from the dark and ominous clouds that have been hanging over the world for some time.

Standing behind the mic in the studio recording the song felt like being set free.

My video producer and editor emailed me last evening and said, and I quote, "I admire your courage and conviction in writing this!"

There is no victory nor any justice in remaining silent.

Thank you again for your valued support and friendship.

Well that about says it all, Neil - well done! Different style for you for sure and really powerful in a strange quiet, deliberate way - perfect vocal and I love that little electronica break in the middle. So looking forward to the video.

Thank you Dolores and Ken for your kind and generous words about my new release - a venture into a new genre where I literally and vocally took the gloves off and quite frankly, felt quite at home.

I have musician Michael Gogol in Germany to thank for reaching out and introducing me to the electronic genre, and for his sensing somehow from what he had heard in my other songs that I could put lyrics and vocals to his music. It truly was the platform that I needed to unleash what had been churning and burning in my mind over many months.

While I have not abandoned the comfort zone of the genres that I am more known to write and perform in, I do expect to be doing other collaborations with Michael.

In the meantime, I offer my thanks and appreciation for your acceptance and enthusiasm for this new release.

Hi Neil - I just watched the video and listened to the track - it had a very powerful effect on me - upsetting and uplifting at the same time - reflecting the awful time we are all living through and highlighting some of the worst behaviours of some people.

Well done - amazing stuff.

Thank you, Chandra. Glad to know the song and the video had such an effect on you - which means I achieved one of the goals of making music - perhaps one of the highest goals.

I greatly appreciate your support and your friendship as a comrade-in-arms, so to speak.

Wishing you all the best in your music and other endeavors.

Great project! Kudos to you, Neil and all involved. It takes a lot courage to change horses
in mid stream with an “outside the box” vocal performance and profound Dylanesque lyrics.
The song transcends genre and succeeds on
every level. Congrats on a monumental accomplishment!

Thank you, Stoneman and Richard, for your kind and thoughtful words - they are reassuring coming from such seasoned artists as you both are.

I approached the writing of the lyrics and recording the vocals with a renewed passion as an artist. It was more than an uplifting experience.

I thank you and others who commented above for your support and friendship for the sake and power of music.
