I have been playing Johnny Cash covers...."Folsom Prison," "Ring of Fire," and "I Walk the Line." I've been getting some great tips doing this playing the street...and it's funny when they see a woman doing these songs...in my deep voice...ha ha....
I was watching him on You Tube....and there is one song he did just before he died, a cover from Nine Inch Nails...just incredible...."Hurt"...but I cry when I see this video...
I have become a big Cash fan....he was/is incredible...I love the way he conveys his words and feelings so well in song....amazing stage presence.

Johnny Cash wears the "Legend" label about as good as anybody ever will. He was, and remains to this day, one of my earliest and greatest musical influences.
Like you and many, many other artists, I also do several Johnny Cash covers in gigs and find each and every time fills me with even more inspiration and admiration for the Man in Black and his music. One of my duet partners, Natalie Kettings, a young and talented soon to be 18 year-old gifted singer with dynamite country vocals get asked over and over again to do "Jackson", a song that we both dearly love doing for obvious reasons!!
I was truly honored to receive an Honor Award in Lyric Writing last year in The Great American Song Contest for my song, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash", and to see the song reach # 2 here on the IAC Country Chart and on the Cashbox Country Chart.
I'm hoping there are other artists here who have written and uploaded songs about this great American Legend that I can add to my station.
My thanks and appreciation for adding mine to yours.
The best to you always.

Congrats on the success of your song. I hadn't thought of writing a song about him...interesting idea....
I would love to do Jackson but I need a guy to sing it with and I sing solo.

Thanks Beth .. writing the song came with its own very personal rewards and memories for me - a labor of love so to speak. Everything else was icing on the cake. "Jackson" is a great song, and a fun song to do. If I should ever get close enough to Boston I'd be more than happy and honored to busk it with you - and you keep the change - singing, playing and performing anywhere and everywhere is my reward. As for writing songs about Johnny Cash - the well is deep and overflowing with words and emotion ... and there's no cause for lack of inspiration.

Thanks Larree ... being under the influence of the passion and emotion surrounding the shadow of Johnny Cash is one of the greatest natural highs a musician can experience. For me The Man in Black has been an inspiration right from the get-go way back when I was a teenager.
