ELECTION NIGHT MUSIC... Where I was, Oh My!!!!!!!!!
So where was I on this most historical of occasions????
Hanging out with David Crosby and Graham Nash at our own Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis, MO!!!! I had one very surreal day, all starting off in court, then going to the polls, and finally enjoying a concert of a lifetime.
My husband Brad and I manufacture tube preamps and fun electronic devices for guitar, pedal steel and more. One of our gear users is Dean Parks (Steely Dan, Billy Joel... well basically, if you go to his discography, you'll see he's played with almost everyone)... and a super nice guy!
Anyway, he contacted us a few weeks ago and said he had some comps for the upcoming Crosby/Nash show. Then, to top that off, he also invited us to join the band and crew for dinner.
So tonight, we got the kids settled with Grandpa, and headed out. Got to check out Dean's gear (I never thought I'd meet a bigger gear geek... Hugh, you'd flip). Then sat down for a meal with the band, crew... very intimate scene. Then we headed out to the bus, where we hung for over an hour with Graham, his son Will and Dean... all while the flat screen and computer was blazing election results. And yes Larree... the air was SWEET. What an experience.
Of course, the evening was young and the concert was yet to begin. And when they took the stage... we all knew we were home. Historical in their own right, they had plenty to say... the music was spine chilling beautiful, the energy of the room was astounding! Then, the encore... the election results, Wooden Ships & the closer "Teach Your Children"... with the whole house singing loud and clear... truly an evening of hope and inspiration... soul quenching! That's where I was for election night!
xoxoxo,

Excellent!
And "Teach Your Children" always chokes me up. With the added weight of the evening, I probably would've been a basket case!
Sounds like a wonderful night.
I hope that Imo's was a part of it!

Hugh - yeah, of course Dean took us through his entire set up... and of course, we we're ready take pics... and of course, our camera died (both sets of batteries dead)... but, I'll pick Brad's brain and see if I post some of his toy set up. So cool to have our Revelation Tube Pre on stage with such a tremendous player. At some point, I'd love to send a few pieces your way to check out.
Todd - the room was glowing - a lot of wet eyes... all in the same basket. But Imos... nope. And gotta say, I sure didn't miss fake cheese slime on chef boyardee crust... but to each his/her own.. of course, I'm not from these parts... I surfed in from CA.
ALL - Indeed, it was a phenomenal evening! The world has felt so chaotic, both personally and nationally... and every single time we start feeling the stress or pain, we look at each other and say... Thank God we get to play music!!!
And last night... well, what can I say... pure undiluted magic.
music.

....
Something special you'll remember for the rest of your life! :)
What were Crosby and Nash like musically? Stephen Stills is one of my favourites but when I saw him play recently I thought he was terrible! I blame all the coke he shoved up his nose in his earlier days.

Thanks for stopping by RedRobin... yeah, over the years I've caught all combinations of the boys. Last night was ON though for sure. Personally, I think Nash was more solid vocally throughout the night... beautiful harmonies. Crosby would quiver a bit here and there with more lower registers, but still hit real strong, too. Together, they were wonderful! And really they have some difficult tunes mixed in... all over the place vocally, dynamically, musically... and they really shined... they seemed quite appreciative of each other, respectful and loving.
The band kicked ass... Dean Parks is one of the most incredible guitarists I've had the pleasure of seeing/hearing. He can do anything... but holds back, then oozes all the perfect notes. The drummer, Stevie Di Stanislao, absolutely amazing! The Sheldon is a beautiful hall... the whole room is tuned like a studio... with gorgeous natural reverb... but live. And you get a kit in there... well, it can get away from you real quick. But he handled it with precision and grace. They were light and then would just rock... but never over powered the room. Keys were James Raymond (I think) but another outstanding player and took high harmonies throughout the night... and of course bass was Andrew Ford, didn't miss a beat or a note... rock solid.
yup!

Wow... Hi Lace!! Thanks for stopping by. Yea, I must say, we have been truly blessed over the years and get to connect with so many amazing people in the music scene. But we're all people. And for us talking gear and music is the easiest conversation to have.
And given the growing intensity of this campaign, the once in a lifetime historical achievement, as well as having to deal with heavy circumstances in my own life... the blessing of soaking up such heart fulfilling experience was huge for me. Figured at least a few folks here would appreciate the story.
I REALLY needed it.

Hi Titania!

Have fun looking around. Straight up Mom and Pop business... high end audiophile approach. I stuff all the circuit boards, do some soldiering here and there, website design, accounting, etc.

Cool stuff indeed Auset..... and four paws up for another woman who knows electronics :-)
I'd LOVE to hear my vintage synths through a pair of Revelation pre's.
Do you guys have any plans to design high end mic pre's? I'm half considering getting an Avalon pre for my 414 EB...... don't have the funds at present though. If you are ever planning mic pre design, let me know.

I ask (in part) because I have a couple hundred feet of mic cable...and a couple dozen XLR connectors...and a new (unopened) soldering station...and have been tutored in the "hows and whys" of it all - but just can't get myself to go down to the basement to be a Solder Soldier and make the many patch-cords I was thinking of making (lol)...
