Town of 1200 people raises $60,000 for local family
Our little prairie town of about 1200 people (and the surrounding area) raised more than $60,000 on Saturday night for a local couple who have discovered that a horrible genetic mismatch between them has inflicted their children with a rare and probably fatal brain disease.
An event featuring a dinner, an auction of donated merchandise, and a dance brought out the support and generosity of the entire community. Our cover band (classic rock) were the lucky musicians to donate our services to a jam-packed dance floor with an even bigger crowd thronging the bar.
$10,000 was raised earlier in the year thru a pancake supper. There is an undisclosed amount in a special account at the credit union. And there will be a quad (offroad vehicle) rally in a nearby town this weekend to raise more.
If successful treatment can be found somewhere that would be the greatest thing of all.

That kind of response is always good to hear, Terry. With 'the media' tending to focus on the negatives, it's easy to end up with a pessimistic view on things. Hopefully, your neighbours will find some help for their children. With so much good will towards them, the potential is there.

"that is just amazing. ~starr"
I agree starr, I'm so proud of our town.
Funny thing is -- almost a third of the people here belong to a bizarre "christian" sect (cult??) that doesn't allow them to "help thy neighbour", so it was really only 800 or 900 people who raised the money.

Since when was there a brand of Christianity that precluded charity or aid to those in need? GRRRRRRRR...
Well done, congratulations to all for a valiant effort, and best wishes for a happy outcome...
