Goin' Home
Woh...The Osmonds...The guiltiest of guilty pleasures?
This track's fantastic-What a great energy......The refrain is so good..
All in 2.04 too!!
A bit of pop magic imo..

....There was never any doubt about The Osmonds' musical talents but their squeaky clean image and religious convictions were considered very uncool by many. More recently they enjoyed some musical recognition and a brief period of being very trendy. Why the guilt?

No guilt from me-thats why i posted it..
God i hate the word 'trendy'...My mom used to use it when i was a kid...It made me squirm..
Do you consider yourself trendy?

RedRobin

....I only consider myself trendy if it makes you squirm, Steve. But I have been known to start a few trends without consciously intending to. Trendy merely means fashionable or stylish and if you work in most creative fields you need to be aware of trends and style. And especially if you live in Chelsea and work in The King's Road, London as I did for 25 years.

I don't know you well admitedly, but you certainly seem like the kind of person the masses would wish to emulate...
Did you paint your elegant red car in psychedelic colours back in the day?

Red Robin,
I always wondered who started the douchebag trend.

Good to see you've remembered the taste of my sh!t - I was feeling ignored by you. I was only just now saying in another blog that I need to become more unpopular so I could cure my addiction and disappear from here in a huff.

You're eminating a stench, which isn't easy to do on a blog page.

Everything about this song, altho it does have an upbeat boogie
tempo, simply bores me with it's predictability...luv the old
gigantor amplifiers tho...Orange or Kustom perhaps? (drool,
drool) :D ...while not so constantly gun-ho, i'd prefer Bolan
w/his unconventional approach to the boogie beat. His lyrics
filled with dynamic imagery brilliance and the use of hand-claps,
congas/bongos really adding a rudimentary backwards flair,
yet sensual air to his flashy stage appeal debonair...and of
course he wuz so full of himself (which i luv!.. he he)..always
'visually' exciting in his creative music and performance...loved,
hated, ignored and always 'noticed' by many. Always confident
of his creativity...many times, overtly so... he he..so i'm gonna
post this one Steve...hope you don't mind...I simply love the
sensual 'word-play' imagery in his song 'Jeepster'...I'm not sure
how you feel about Bolan, but quite a bit of your music reminds
me of him.

Larry...I absoloutly love Bolan/T.Rex/Tyrannosaurus Rex too and am hugely flattered to be compared in any way with him-It makes me feel i'm doing something right!
He was the master of simple, intuitive songwriting-great voice,grooves-a magical individualism and eccentricity...A fabulous soundscape as well-with much kudos to Toni Visconti for that.. His music's always a total joy to hear..
That Jeepster version here is slower than the recorded version-but its still great..
The Osmonds Goin' Home i must've played 10 times in a row,so it must be giving me something!...Often really obvious rock/pop does little for me too-but its the energy n exhuberance of the performance i love here i think- and the brilliant lead vocal..
The song is probarbly worth less than the performance admitedly-but i just love its kinda dumb joie de vivre i guess...Same with things like The Ramones,Phil Spector 60s or even alot of T.Rex too..:)

know what you mean Steve...i too luv the minimalism aspect of R&R..ex-NY Doll
Johnny Thunders was the king-pin of stupid songs..ha ha...also Ramones, as
you aptly pointed out...and there are many more...and something, perhaps one
sound can 'draw the listener in'. I never knew about the Visconti factor in Bolan's
carreer...as you may know...I simply treasure Bowies 'The Man Who Sold The
World' album above all his others and that was a Visconti production of sorts,
with him playing bass guitar also. I was glad 2 find a live performance of
'Jeepster' as most were lip-sync performances. Marc was pretty 'spot-on' in
this particular one too, as far as his playing goes.

I love the New York Dolls first album Larry...Yeh,their music has got that same thing for me too...
I don't have Man Who Sold THe World on CD so was recently going thru loads of the tracks on Youtube and thinking how astonishingly creative Bowie was at that time...
I found this unreleased Bowie/Bolan collab on youtube...
The quality's abysmal lol but the actual song sounds good to me..

Great find Steve...sounds like they were just 'winging it' from
a basic idea structure, probably Bowies...noticed him trying
to attempt an oriental mood with Marc rockin up the lead
guitar...although one can't see because of the annoying
cut-n-paste art collage slide-show getting in the way...still
a treat to hear for me. On the subject of Pop music, which
I know you love also, I’m wondering what you think of this
song. I’ve always liked it but it seems to be one of those
songs that is either loved or hated. I think it’s one of the
silliest, most addictive, perfectly crafted Pop songs and
it was fairly big over here. How did it do over on your
side of the pond?

Yeh Larry Sweet were a huge band in the UK with a bunch of top 10 excellent glam-rock pop confections like Little Willy..
I guess from what you're saying that was the only succesful one in the U.S
They've got such a great sound and i love Brian Connollys voice..
