Wish me luck, urrr... to break a leg and such, GOT a HUGE HALLOWEEN Extravaganza Friday -Anybody else out there with nifty Halloween weekend gigs?
yup. I get to play in 3 different bands for ARTFEST #31 -ALL HALLOWS EVE Celebration 2008. It's the 10 Year Anniversary of ARTFEST & of these reeeely beeeg Halloween shows.
Usually there's from 7-13 bands, starting at 10pm and going into the wee hours of the morning... This year it falls on HALLOWEEN Nite Itself! It's gonna be a gas and looks to be another BIG Underground House party, with 2-300 people. Mostly thanks to the GREAT Bands playin' with us. So I'm a little punchy in the stress of preparations, promotions, hosting, coordinating and PRACTICIN' my littly booty off these past few weeks, with three different bands. DOH! Oh the price we pay for the love of collaboration & side projects...
Gotta work all day right before too.... OUCH. The pain of not being one of the sponsored musicians out there in the indie world.
Anyhoo, What are y'all doin' fer Halloween?
um... Hope I'M not being stupid, and somebody else already did a blog like this!
Either way, who's got a spiffy little Halloween Weekend gig comin' up to share about?

We played the last 2 weekends in a row... so, we're off for this one. Looks like we'll be taking in DSO (Dark Star Orchestra - Grateful Dead Tribute band)... for our night. We're good friends with the band, so it'll be quite a party. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck, Mon. I had an offer for Halloween gi, but my five year old boy wasn't into that idea.
Kinda weird this year. Got offers for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, too. The Thanksgiving one would pay like 500 bucks and the Christmas Eve thing would be up around there, too. Right when I need the money, but geeeez. It's not a time to be out playing when you have a fam.
Maybe it's priorities like these that keep me in my little nowhere land, but whatever....I have good kids.

No gigs, but I'm mixing a 5 song Demo for one of the cover bands I'm in with the garage door open. That should scare some kiddies, huh?
Put on a mask and wig.
Get a big bowl of jollyrogers and rocks (hey!.... part of this thing is "trick" or treat, right?)
Good Luck on your Gig Phlegm,

Y'all are freakin' awesome! And Bob & Hugh, I think that's why we PRACTICE in our humble 4 bed room home & throw an underground haus party every couple of months, 'cause that way EVERYTHING about music, doesn't have to take me away from the family.
I'm hanging out with my oldest four right now, in between bloggin' & other music networking on the internet.
But, I totally respect HUGH and Bob Elliot for their stance on NO gigs on Family holidays, and priorities.
Luckily, my kids are old enough now to actually GO to the gigs & attend the Haus Party (in their own home), so it works out quite well. I probably spend MORE time with them at most of these gigs, than with networking the local scene & tryin' to inspire new "fans". Anyhoo, everybody's gotta do what works for them.
Now that I have a supportive wife & family, the music has actually been MOVIN' a little finally... Only thing really holdin' us back is time & the right fully-committed personnel. Ya gotta bloom where you're planted & work to be the BEST with who you end up gettin' to collaborate with, is what I say.
I'd love to go to a haunted house & have Batina do a palm reading! Cool thing you're doin' with your TAROT & astrology Batina.
I guess Dark Star Orchestra is like the most FAMOUS of all Greatful Dead Tribute bands right? Cool - and enjoy Auset.
TO Silverwood sTUDIO Enjoy doin' those Ads man... be yourselves & treat it like a performance and I know you'll rock it.
Mr. FLock congrats on gettin' together yet another collection of songs. Hope to hear 'em up on IAC soon!
Satch, by Susan do you mean Susan Raven? Either way have an awesome gig man, and let your soul FLY !

SO cool. You lucky Dogs.
Of course I do have my wife, who is a talented artist & hilariously entertaining woman, so I guess it's somewhat similar.
Anyway ENJOY. Don't be suprised if I try to look y'all up when we move to the UK in 2010!
We're VISITING London, England again this year on November 30th to December 6th -- any chance y'all would be out that way, or easily reachable by train? We could go out for a pint or two, or IN for tea, ya know? It's you're call on that. I'm sure you've got insanely busy lives like many of us tryin' to do the Artist thingee.
Thank you for makin' that connection for me by the way. I remember seeing that in the blogs before, but just never made the connection! -pHLeGm

We live in the middle of nowhere - train from London to our nearest station is a five hour journey on a good day (the train goes all over the country before reaching us)... but guess what? You just might be lucky in your timing - it looks like we will be performing in London on December 5th, so you might be able to come to catch a live Susan Raven performance. Will post more details for you closer to the time when all is confirmed and arranged.

Thanks Satch & Code-meister for jumpin' in I definitely wanna see Susan Raven AND The CODE, as well as Papa George! A chance to see three of my favorite UK acts from IAC LIVE, come on now. It's a no-brainer.
By the way, I saw a couple of your videos the other day, and Y'all in The CODE are a ROCKIN' outfit!
Can't wait to see you live for the mini-tour of London!
'Cause my wife just approved ALL THREE NITES
- so I guess we might just CRASH out (nobby blinkers) hard & not do tourist stuff a couple of those days....'cause I'm hopin' they'll be some drinkin' & carousin' during those lovely nites on the town.
Thanks to Mr. code-meister (colin?) for Laying out the itinerary out for me, real nice & easy. I'll print that comment out as a three nite tour & paste it in our "ENGLAND for DUMMIES" book.... teee heeee heeee === ?>?> You should've seen the LAUGHTER we got in that first customs thingee you have to go through when trying to enter London, England from just gettin' off the plane. They loved the "England for DUmmies" paperback & I had them all sign it. heeee heeee...
You should've seen us goin' through the security gate! We were stripped almost down to our underwear, after we had taken off all the spikey, metal thingees & bracelets, boots, and other hardware. But I digress.
THANKS again for the incredible IAC-filled Itinerary ...Cheers & Happy Halloween !

pHLegm -
Man, you rock on all levels... just straight up good vibes!!!! Gotta ask though, how many in all? You said you were with your oldest 4???
I have 3 ... and am waaay family focused... only gig about 1-2 times a month. Gigging important (about equal to 10 practices), but family rules. And really it works out, because around here, its hard to get people out for live music... so if you play too often, fewer folks show up. And our kids are now getting old enough to "get it". I'm divorced, so I book whatever I can when kids are away, and when their home, am very careful in what I book that they might be able to participate in.
We also run sound for very selective shows around town. Just played and ran sound for a big benefit this past weekend... kids helped load in and then kept themselves busy drawing, painting, reading and hanging out for over 6 hours! Then helped load out... sure, they'd love to be home chillin', but totally get what we do - our way of life. But yea, we never gig on holidays unless its a super cool family oriented throwdown.
In fact, everything we do is music oriented. We run St. Louis' only analog audio mastering business (my husband has golden ears)... and design and build vacuum tube preamps and guitar pedals. Yeah SUSAN and SATCH - I too, do everything with my husband... a m a z i n g!!!!
per DSO - yea, their the most famous in what they do, but still doesn't touch the real thing. Except they recently got Dan Healy (the grateful dead's infamous sound man) running front of house and its down right delectable.
peace & ghouls-
A

oh man.l... so drained.... need to eat, but the show was FUCKIN' AWESOME! SO I just had to stop in to IAC to see what's up with my favorite INDIE site.
Just a lesson I learned, if any of y'all do the show bookings for HOUSE PARTIES or similar events and have 5 hours of airtime (NOIZE time) -- then you better NOT try and book 8 bands~!
DOH! We usually only have 1-3 bands, and things work out just fine, but this was halloween ya know & the 10 year Anniversary of Halloween Festivals -- with over 35 individual shows in addition, throughout those years.
I swear to cHrist, I was made for THIS! When we move to England, I'm opening a club (in 2010 or 2011) -- for LIVE original music covering EVERY style you hear on IAC!
The crowds were great considering the fire hazzard, and over 200 people crammed into a 1000 square foot space. We actually made enough to pay the sound guy, buy all the BEER, and pay a little extra for an awesome JOB!
Bottomline it was a success. I got to play with SINISTER MUSTARD in a band we call CUSTARD ( pHLeGm of Conversation Suicide & the brothers from Sinister Mustard -- who are both IAC artists.
DO YOURSELF a FLAVOR & check out sinister mustard on IAC here:
SINISTER MUSTARD in the TOP 40 of HARD ALTERNATIVE on IAC
PLEASE? See related blog they started to try and get the IAC welcome wagon to respond.
ANYHOO.... I digress. I LOVE the vortex of original music that our humble abode has been over the past 10 years. And I'm DAMN proud to be the channel through which these underground muses flow for our particular sphere of influence.
BUT.... it's still so DAMN underground! SIGH.
THANK YOU Todd of HOP on POP, Slimdog, Toni, dEBBie & Data Thieves for the WELL wishes. I'm pretty certain this one was a success because of ALL the GREAT vibes from the IAC community represented on this BLOG page!
GAWD, I love IAC. If I ever get the chance, I'm GIVIN" back to this community!
I promote it every chance I get. ROCK -==:-? -pHLeGm

Glad it all went well - I remember a similar occasion back in 1978 - way back when
; ) I was one of about 2 punk rock bass players in the town. There was a local gig with 3 bands and I was in all of 'em....... got home with sore fingers on left hand and lots of blood issuing from right hand fingers - it was a blast tho! When you opens your club in the UK I'm available - like if you need someone to tend bar or help sweep up the broken teeth or something - he he he!
