How often do you reevaluate your whole life?
I've had some life changing experiences this year and it really seems like I'm starting over. I was wondering how often creative people do this sort of thing?

Hi Janey ... I try to never reevaluate my life ... I'll leave that up to the folks to do after I'm gone ... If anybody cares to ...
I try to live each and every day as if it were the first day I was givin' as well as the last ...
Nothing I did yesterday or any day before that makes any difference to me or anybody else for that matter ... and even if it did, there is no way it can be changed one way or the other ... It's what one does in the here and now that is what counts ... and in a moment, that won't matter either because it will soon be a part of the past ...
IMO to many people live in the past ... I like to visit it from time to time but never stay there long ... Who one was is not who one is ... Every day the Sun comes up on the same horizon ... but it is a brand new Sunrise that has never been seen before ...
Moment of Change
Well I packed up my suitcase .... headed out on the road
Another chapters been written ... in a story that'll never be told
Did I leave an impression ... did you notice at all
It could have lasted forever but you said forever was just too damn long
Moments of Color ... Moments of Grey
Everything gets painted over by a moment of change
Moments of Glory ... Moments of Pain
They never last they just become the past anyway
Got myself a new place ... I'd like to call it my home
But I know how the wind is ... And any moment it could all be gone
I got a new girlfriend ... can't say for how long
I've learned to never say never ... cuz reality is built on a sliding floor
Moments of Color ... Moments of Grey
Everything gets painted over by a moment of change
Moments of Glory ... Moments of Pain
They never last they just become the past anyway
I picked up my six-string ... yeah it's time to reload
Cuz these new songs I been singin' ... are already gettin' real old
I wonder how you've been .... now has it been that long
Since we shared those moments together ... moments of right and moments of wrong
Moments of Color ... Moments of Grey
Everything gets painted over by a moment of change
Moments of Glory ... Moments of Pain
They never last they just become the past anyway
Moments of Tenderness ... Moments of Shame
Moments of Sunshine .... Moments of Rain
Moments of Loneliness ... Moments of Fame
They never last they just become the past anyway
Cuz Everything gets painted over by a moment of change

Well, my brother died in November '06. My mom died in November '07. Another brother is currently wasting away with cancer and probably does not have long. I find myself evaluating my life pretty much every minute of every day any more.

Gee, Nerol that's a terrible batch of trouble in your family. My wife went thru that and so did a mechanic I worked with -- one downer after another in a very short time.
They are both doing fine now. Is that any help at all? Just trying to be encouraging, hope it's not lame.
Best wishes from Terry.

If I tried to evaluate my existance, I'd go insane. At this point I just try to stay on a path that moves in a somewhat forward direction and find joy in the smaller things of this life. I suppose I will evaluate in retrospect after I leave it. Eye

Sorry for your loss, Nerol. That kind of pain does make one more introspective. I lost my brother around the same time you lost yours. It made me more motivated to accomplish certain goals and get the most out of life because I see how fleeting it can be. I realize that the very act of waking up in the morning and being alive is the most precious gift there is.
As for the original question about starting over...yes I am constantly starting over. I feel a very strong need to evaluate and re-evaluate what I'm doing. I get bored very easily so I have to keep making my life more interesting.
I don't know if it has anything to do with being creative but I do find that making something from nothing is very important to me. I try to look at living life as an art form.

Yeah.... I try not to hang on to tighty Richard, to the path I'm on, 'cause stuff & things'll move it a completely different direction, every time I think I know where it's goin'... Life is DEFINITELY a process!
As long as you KEEP it that way, learnin' and all, I think you can't go to far wrong....

Sorry about that John. I will dedicate my the next new song to you because it is the ultimate "break-up song". You may find it cathartic. It doesn't pull any punches.
I'm mixing it on Monday.

It's not just creative people who suffer this phenomena so I don't think it's more common to creative folk, but on the other hand it might be, but then again it probably is. Aah, I know what it is, creative people think about it and analyse it more, that's it.

sad to hear that------but pleased to know the Fujis will continue!!
Nothing quite as hard to sustain ---as a partnership and band rolled into one!!!
Also ---Janey------when serious stuff happens we make big adjustments----but ideally I wish I could do that every day ----funny how we slip into a pattern sometimes and it takes a major event to shake us up?

for me it takes either a profound tragedy...or about 500 mics of LSD.
that may sound like I'm kidding, but I'm not.
Most of the time it's been friends dying, or just comming to the realization tht some cornerstone of my thinking is wrong!
I really usually think I'm right, It's a habit I've had(not being right, just thinking I am)..... so when I discover that some key element in my thinking is wrong it really throws me.
I do think that 2 of the most transformational experiences of my life were high dose LSD trips...I was fortunate to have a good environment both times.
hmm..I'm really going through another re evaluation right now, no LSD or sudden deaths, just the realization that i'm aging and that there are a lot of things I always thought I would do that I probably wont...And questioning my profession, shaky times in my 20 year marriage....it's a weird time for sure.
