I posted this response to the "guitarist" thread, but I thought maybe it's important enough to warrant its own topic....

OK, so can we talk "grass roots marketing campaign"?
IAC has a wealth of diversity among it's ranks. Lots of good music available for "on the cheap"...an a la carte banquet buffet. My latest thought is this: where I am there are college radio stations where the DJs are just as independent thinking as we are and that is reflected in their programming. I'm sure they are looking for new and interesting artists' music to play on their shows on a regular basis...either drawing from their own collections or borrowing from friends. I recently spoke with one and got her email address so I could send her the link to IAC as well as to my own stations here.

Advantages for her:
easy, downloadable access to a richly diverse resource for new music
inexpensive availability to songs, and,
cutting edge programming

Sounds refreshing, doesn't it?

Advantages for us:
indie to indie market contact
"record" sales
airplay, airplay, airplay

Know any indie station DJs?

Sounds like a great Idea Mike ... personally, I don't know any D.J.'s but if I ever meet any I will be sure and direct them here...
I've been working on my 3 daughters and my son though... trying to get them to direct their friends here for listening... it's a slow conversion process but it is happening.. and I see bright roads ahead for IAC and they sure deserve it...

Most (well, some) of us take for granted all the things they are doing for us as artist... I know what is involved in running a web site and it is not an easy job.. and it's not just what we see... their is so much behind the scenes that they are doing too... reaching out and drawing the world in for our mutual benefit..
This Place RRRRRAAAAAAAWWWWWWWKS !!!!!

IMO each one of us should attempt to do what little part we can, (coordinated or otherwise) to see that this place suceeds in a grand fashion ... that not only benefits us all ... but as I see it, will benefit the whole state of the music scene over-all..

We are the Site... We are the Artist.... We are no longer the future of music but rather the HERE and NOW of music.....

Now... if we just had the King (Elvis) ..... :)

About a year or so I did some research and got basically the emails and phone numbers of all the college radio stations. I made some cold calls to about 20 of them. Several were receptive but even though I was promised large blocks of airtime in some case, they didn't seem to follow up. They are not very organized, these stations. You make connections with somebody and they're gone next week.. I've wondered what would ever happen if we had a group of people writing these places. My theory was, many of them don't even broadcast at night and could just stream KIAC radio or something in the lull. Anyway if we did anything like this we'd have to get together and make a good plan but volunteers who wanted to put in the time would be essential. heh

Anyway I have the resources as I mentioned if we wanted to attempt some major groundswell thing. :)
