DAMN! I think my sound card (?) just died
Was experiencing low volume for a while, but now.....no sound...from anything. Is it possible a virus would cause this to happen?

Bummer Mike ... :(
I've never heard of a virus causing this though ... but maybe others could tell you more ...
I'm no help ... just feel your pain

Thanks, Sam, guess I'll just have to pick up my guitar instead....at least for a while (what a drag LOL!) Makes me appreciate just how much I enjoy my listening here.
BTW, does anyone have any recommendations for a quality replacement?

M Audio Delta 2496 soundcard. The very best bang for the buck out there!

# of inputs/outputs is a personal need decision.
If your machine is a "general purpose" computer, where you use it for everything ... including recording, just make certain that the drivers to the sound card can handle everything from 5kbps and everything in between up to 192kbps at various bit depths ...
... or you'll miss some sound on the net.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input.
The M audio unit looks ideal for an affordable DAW setup, and though I've often thought of it, this old computer of mine remains dedicated to more mundane excursions (at least for the time being LOL). Impatient as always, between posts I shoveled myself out, made my way to Staples and got a Soundblaster card so I can listen as I work.
