Top 3 albums?
So, if you had to take only 3 albums into space.... what would they be?
I'll start -
77 - Talking Heads
We Get Requests - Oscar Peterson Trio
Exodus - Bob Marley & the Wailers

|
Magnetfisch
|

yeah, I'd like to go into space,
I would say:
New Gold Dream - Simple Minds
Disintegration - The Cure
Third World Child - Johnny Clegg & Savuka

Alvin Lee Shhhhh
How we getting there and how long are we going for ?
Do we actually have a record player?

How long again?

Those are some really good questions, John! I wanna go with this group because you all have at least 1 album I love. All of John's, and 77 is a classic with no precedent, and New Gold Dream was huge for me back in the day. Not sure how it would sound today though...
Jethro Tull Thick as a Brick
David Bowie Station to Station
Pink Floyd Piper at the Gates of Dawn

|
The Man With No Band

Well If we're going to outer-space .....
I guess I'll join the rest of the human race ....
and buy an ipod !!!
What time will refreshments be served ?
I would like to take one album though.....
anything by Slim Whitman ...
It would be the perfect ALIEN REPELLANT !!!! :)

ooooowwwwwwww I'm a Kiwi (not actually an alien yet!)
very specific for this journey:::
Solar Fire-------Manfred Manns Earth Band
Dark side of the Moon------the Floyd (coincided with my first ever "trip")
Seargant Pepper-------John George Paul Ringo and George! We could sell this to the Aliens if they ever came back!

I reckon we'd be off for about......ooooh.... I don't know....a long weekend?
That would probably be enough, I reckon.
There would definitely be monkeys though. Hell yeah.
Dark Side of the Moon was a close call for me too, but in the end, you've got to have a bit of Bob, just in case you score some space weed. Cheech & Chong would.
And you'd have to have an iPod or a CD player, because as much as I love vinyl, I'd doubt it's effectiveness in zero G. Even the penny on the head shell won't help you then.

The Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem
Morning Glory - Oasis

|

This is an ever changing question I suppose, but
Revolver - Beatles
Surrealistic Pillow - Airplane
well those 2, and the third would be any one of these, depending on the day.
Neil Young - On the Beach
Al Green's Greatest Hits
Never Mind the Bollocks - Sex Pistols
Are You Experienced - Hendrix
Nirvana - Nevermind
Zep - Houses of the Holy
Neil Young - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
Beatles - Rubber Soul

I like the diversity of your choice My Head Radio. The dilemma would be whether to take 3 similar favorite albums or 3 entirely different genres to suit changing moods. I don't think I'd take anything however, I would be either too scared to concentrate or too starstruck to feel the need for music. Sorry - cop out - V

Thanks - I have to be able to change my mood with music. I can't live without jazz and reggae and Talking Heads are my fave band ever, so it had to be those 3.
A top 10 is a popular choice, but I prefer the purity of the top 3. Besides, it's a lot tougher.
Maybe we should include top 3 movies too?

The Beatles Revolver
The Beatles Rubber Soul
Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
These are mu favorite albums, but If I were stuck in space I would like to have The Amadeus Movie sound track with me as well to chill to the scenery, of course Floyd would be great to listen to as I riunded the Moon :) This is a tough choice to make.
I wonder, with digital music, Ipods, and the ability to make individual set lists like IAC Stations, is the Album going extinct? Does anyone today buy albums for the collection and enjoy the experience as a whole? Or is music today consumed ala cart?

My Head R--,
I went to Talking Heads / Pretenders concert at QE2 Stadium ----a few years back when I was in "the Cube"--------We were lucky to get tickets to the after party at a local club and sat around with David & co! He only drank a little of the finest bubbly while everyone else was getting totally ripped!
ohhh, and our female vocalist ran off with Chrissies Bass man, to his hotel---------she was my ride home!!

Hey Silverwood, that's a great story, I'm sooooo jealous. I've always kind of figured that David Byrne was never the bottle of vodka, 8 ball and 3 chicks kind of a guy, glad to have that confirmed.
It's funny, we've had The Who reform and play gigs, The Police and even Take bloody That. I wonder if TH will ever get back together and play a few gigs. I'd donate parts of my anatomy for that, as I'm lucky enough to have seen most of my other musical heroes.
Here's hoping...

Keeping it down to three is the hard part! But I'll have a go....
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Traffic - John Barleycorn
Then, I'd have to spend a while listening and smoking and listening and smoking and choosing and more listening...
David Bowie - Station to Station
Beatles - White Album
Beatles - Sgt Pepper
Beachboys - Pet Sounds
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Neil Young - Journey Through The Past
Neil Young - Decade
More Led Zeppelin, more Traffic, some Buffalo Springfield, Talking Heads, Bob Marley, noooo.... too much choice!

The Cars - Candy-O
Missing Persons - Spring Session M
The Cult - Love

I've only got two for sure:
Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana - Shiina Ringo
Veil of Gossamer - Dave Bainbridge
For the third I'd probably want a good acoustic jazz trio album. Maybe Oscar Peterson, Bob James Trio, Philippe Saisse, Herbie... something like that.

Woh The Beatles White album is a popular choice!
I'd have to add it too..Its such a beautiful chaotic soup of great songs and Lennons contributions from India are brilliant
For the others..Its between
Forever Changes..Love
Hunky Dory..David Bowie
Flowers..The Rolling Stones (i know that not a 'proper' album but its got most of their brilliant folk-rock and psych-pop 60s tracks which is what i love most about them)
