Every Day I Write Words to This Song
And every day I throw them out. We have such a cool song all ready to go as soon as I like the words, but each day brings me more not quite right verses to add to this verse:
The faces they change as they grow
Seasons come, seasons go
And all of the faces you show
I can dig it, baby
Just let me know
All my work on my own music is stuck right there for a month now.

The faces that don't understand
Each day brings new master plans
You keep tryin' to get it right
This I get
but no black and white

I like the word ‘understand ‘ the idea that a face can understand.
This is what seems to work today, but might get tossed:
The faces they change as they grow
Seasons come, seasons go
And all of the faces you show
I can dig it, baby
Just let me know
I should keep my mouth shut
Most of the time
Most of the time
But there’s one thing I know
I’m always gonna love you so
(Then this chorus which I already had but is depending on how the rest pans out, it sings well):
‘Cause under the moonlight, sunlight
I just want you to be with me
Whenever the rain falls
Anytime at all
I just need you to be with me
I’m just trying to be patient. I feel like songs that end up with words that don’t quite cut it really have a short life. I consider all the songs I cover, and they all have words that work, all of them. Or even my own songs, I only continue playing the ones with words that work.
What works is, of course, defined as ‘something that works.’

Really should just free associate for awhile on the word ‘faces.’ That’s what’s key here, faces or face.
That’s a powerful word. Faces carry so much. Probably should be the title.

Faces trip me out because they change moment to moment year to year and yet also stay the same, set the identity, reveal the inside...

There’s a lot of electricity in putting a face on another face
One of the most electric things we ever do

Writing is a strange kind of work. You can go work on refinishing cabinets (which I need to go do), and you will certainly see progress, but you can work on a song, and you may or may not.

It probably sounds fine as a song but seeing the lyrics as they are doesn't help me to understand what you're trying to put across. Is it a love song or an observation of deceitfulness or facetiousness. is it about a face growing older or growing to love someone despite their physical appearance?
It's very ambiguous . But at the end of the day if the sound is appealing will anyone look that closely or try to analyse it?

Yeah, well the day is over and those are today’s lines I toss. The first verse works very well for me.

And then you turn your face away
Another face another day
What face is next, I cannot say
I can dig it, baby
Come out and play
?
Tried to stick to your theme and cadence. I also thought about the repetition of the "Dig it" line, if that is something you're keen on. But it's tough when I can't hear the melody.
How'd I do?

Faces change through the years
Through all the joy and the tears
But I will always love you
So put aside your fears
Should I say what's on my mind?
I keep things inside most of the time
I don't pretend to be clever
I want to be with you forever
"Cause under the moonlight
Faces shine and seem to glow
But when the moon is out of sight
I'll still love you so

I watch you sit and twitching
With a match between your teeth
You seem to have a knack of moving it
It's in time to the beat
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
I can't be distracted
By the stuttering of the kids
I just sit enraptured
By your fluttering eye lids
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
I can only stare
You make me feel
Like I don't care
I can only stare
You make me feel
Like I don't care
I can only stare
You make me feel
Like I don't care
Your eyes explain a story
That never had a start
Your brow reveals the glory
That's hidden in your heart
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Your skin is fine china
White as winter snows
Your lips are always shining
Turning up your nose
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
Face dances tonight
Fate chances moonlight
I can only stare
You make me feel
Like I don't care

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strange)
Ch-ch-Changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time

To quote Jeigh above:
"It probably sounds fine as a song but seeing the lyrics as they are doesn't help me to understand what you're trying to put across. Is it a love song or an observation of deceitfulness or facetiousness. is it about a face growing older or growing to love someone despite their physical appearance?
It's very ambiguous ."
I don't usually draw up anything all that good when I am clear on "what I'm trying to put across." I wait for stuff to come up that I'm not entirely clear on but has the ring to it that somehow makes me feel.
So after two months, the words that make me feel arrived yesterday. Not sure if it's clear what I'm putting across, but they finally feel like something I want to sing. Later I'll try to post a rough version of where the song is at right now. Here's the words:
The faces they change as they grow
Seasons come, seasons go
And all of the faces you show
I can dig it, baby
Just let me know
I'm not here to argue
or make myself clear
What did you hear?
Was it love, love?
Love is gonna draw me near
'cause under the moonlight, blue night
I just want you to be with me
Whenever the rain falls
any time at all
I just need you to be with me
Everyone has their own thing
But who can fly with a broken wing?
Patience, and kindness and soul
we can dig it, baby
feels like home
We don't want to argue
or make ourselves clear
What did you hear?
Was it love, love?
Love is gonna draw us near
'cause under the moonlight, blue night
I just want you to be with me
Whenever the rain falls
any time at all
I just need you to be with me
