One Week at the Coast and Here's Some Creativity
For those that like the raw sound of people getting creative, I have a couple tracks we made up. They have not been mixed, and I haven't even heard them on anything but phones yet. The first song is called "A Man Called Blackbird." It has one of me, one of Matt, and six of Sean. Kinda seems like it might need a true slide player. Wrote it real fast when I knew they were coming.
The second is called "Supersonic" for now because I haven't written words yet. It's an experiment in rhythms that Matt and I were doing. He's on all the percussion.
I like them both a lot, but it may be too early to be posting them, but whatever. I won't keep 'em up long. Just jacked up about them and feel like sharing with musicians.
Here's "Blackbird"

Hip stuff, Bob. I like both songs, but I really liked the way "Supersonic" sounds. Also, it's a great recording. Btw, was that a kid in another room at @3:07? It added even more atmosphere to a song loaded with atmosphere, already.

Yeah, one of each of our kids came running in yelling about dinner. We just kept playing. I like kid noise on recordings.

Nice work Bob and friends ...
I agree with SRM on "Supersonic" great sound and cool stereo ... I can't hear that the recording needs much if anything ...
I really like "A Man Called Blackbird" as a song ... and it is really worth putting the effort into giving it a good mix down .... very unique folky sound and I enjoyed the tuned down guitar a lot and the banjo sets well ... not much I don't like here !

I really like Blackbird - can't claim to be a "real" slide player - but I have been geeking out with the slide lately - where are you holding auditions?

Thanks for checking it out. It's the best I can do to just share it, and that gets me to be okay with returning to work today, because I'd rather be making more of the songs up on the coast. We could go on for weeks with new songs every day. When we get a chance to be together, there is never a loss for ideas.
I listened to your slide tune, Hugh, it's very cool. You're a good player, organic sound. I think the thing I mean is a steel guitar. That's the name of the thing on country albums, right? Or lap steel. That's the thing I mean. Does it seem like "Blackbird" could go well with a lapsteel?
I will probably redo my guitar and voice on that song. The guitar goes out of tune in the one part, and I was going to not do any wandering off the note at the end of the lines, but when I got to "white man's disease" I wandered all over the place, and I wished I hadn't. Surprisingly there is not much bleed of my performance on Matt's drum mics, so I could have another shot.
I also listened to Susan Raven's tunes, and she's a major talent.

A Man Called Blackbird
We saw the fire and we knew there was a meeting
the plains were burning all golden in the evening sun
here they come
Don't drink the water of a man called 'Blackbird'
or, like my brother, you'll be buried underneath the stones
up on the hill
yes that man can kill
The buffalo fill the plains and
the sky begins to rain and
we walk upon the water on the backs of the fish
I am free
He lays in wait with a hundred brave warriors
with warpaint and they're waiting for the whiteman comes
upon the water
they take tribute in tobacco and rifles
Blackbird is a man you don't trifle with
he's got the gift
The buffalo fill the plains and
the sky begins to rain and
we walk upon the water on the backs of the fish
the rivers are going to freeze and
we'll dry all the salmon we need and
their flesh all pink and purple as it falls from their backs
I am free
I heard that now there's only three hundred left and
a great nation brought down to its knees
a whitemans' disease
Yeah, there's surely a lack of treble on this stuff.
