"Spirit" Was an Underrated Band
Well, at least "Twelve Dreams" sure was beautiful and psychedelic and about as good as anything else going on then. Tellyou the truth I'm going off a childhood memory that sticks with me decades later. I don't even own it, but I need to get it because
Nothing to Hide
Animal Zoo
Nature's Way
Those are just fantastic.
You know, maybe that's mostly all they had or something, because I don't recall the rest of the album, but I can hear those in my head clearly. Beautiful stuff.

Yes, and we also like "Fresh Garbage" and "Uncle Jack" (among others) from their first album (Spirit).

A lot of real good stuff is being re released on Evangeline records - def worth checking out. I gots most all their cd's (or vinyl from back in the day). The depth and variety of their songs make em perhaps my favourite band ever! They really do have a lot more to offer than just 12 dreams so go check out more stuff y'hear!

It's been a long time since I've heard Dr. Sardonicous, but I do remember liking it, even if some of the jams got a little long.
Kinda cool that there was a stepson and stepfather playing together in that band.

Spirit is one of my all time favorite bands. They were a good 10 years ahead of their time. My favorite album is "12 dreams" but the song "I got a line on you" from "The family that Plays together" is also one of my faves.
The combo of band members was amazing. Ed Cassidy (Mr. Skin), the drummer who had started out in jazzz, had been in a band with Ry Cooder and Taj Mahol before leaving to join Spirit. Jay Ferguson, the vocalist, went on to form Jo Jo Gunne and had some solo hits. John Locke, the keyboard player went on to play with Nazareth and Mark Andes (bass) went with Ferguson to form Jo Jo Gunne and was with Heart when they hit it big.... and Randy California...well, he was Randy California, nuff said.
In a way, they picked up where the Beatles left off...
I'm not too familiar with any of their work after 12 dreams. I'll have to dig some up.

Thing is Hugh, it was a new sound back in 68 or 69 when they did it. Personally, I think it still holds up pretty well.

My high school cover band played I've Got A Line On You (I played bass) but I wasn't compelled to dig deeper. Seems several of you folks think that's a mistake. Hmm...
