one of our early indie stars really made a name for herself
A lady who got her start here is really thriving. just saw this:
The Essential Melody Gardot is OUT NOW!
Much more than a mere best-of, this collection spanning 15 years of music, is generously comprised of 25 tracks (including previously unreleased songs) and was selected and sequenced by Gardot herself.

Yes, Scott, one of the reasons I love the site, there are many fabulous indie bands here, presented in a format that provides ample room for melody/pix/lyrics in an accessible way, you "feel" the energy from the band, in a safe, Musical space, today for example, a band named Lost Letters for Lucy (from Switzerland), with a new song...heard & added by bryon and m'self...& Norm...
Many bands like this, too many to mention, great indie spirit, on the site,
cheers,
Steve

Yes I was listening on her IMP page a couple of years ago and wondered what was happening for her... I knew she was talented, but I think her page here was when she was like 18 or something.
I wasn't prepared for how she'd grown as an artist.
Not only a wonderful video (complete with dancing eunuchs), but a knock me dead sophisticated song, perfectly delivered, timed, syncopated, with incredible vocal dexterity and touch... man - it don't get better. There are many of her songs, jams, live and studio sessions on youtube.. don't be a stranger, be sure to come back and find the next incredible find here on IMP..
Thanks Scott - and Steve, I think it was on one of your stations that I first heard her.

PS... Did I mention the unbelievably rich arrangement? After you've had a few listens, go back and just listen to the arrangement... particularly the gorgeous strings... it's like Nelson Riddle came back just for one more encore... they're THAT good!!!!!

Thanks for the post Scott,
I noticed her current release on Spotify since I follow her there and have some songs on a couple playlistings I have made.
And as Glenn noted she has the special something for sure and the incredible tasty quality of the arrangement, definitely has grown her abilities, and her music is top drawer!
About 12 years ago she had performed in Vancouver and there was an article in the local paper here about her and the music columnist mentioned the quality of her singing and the amazing songcrafting, it was just her and her singing and piano-guitar playing with no big big production, yet it the audience and writer were struck of how wonderful her singing and stage presence was .
After reading the write up about her I sent an email to Melody and her recent performance and noted her presence on indiemusicpeople as that is where I found out about her music and congratulated her on her success and brought up this site and she responded thanking me and we struck up a few more interactions and I brought up Steve Ison and his wonderful songcrafting and she said ,yes she remembered how good he was and how she loved his music and was surprised he had not been recognized or got a label behind him which she found unfortunate.
We had a number of exchanges and she was very kind and spent time telling me about her plans for the future.
So yes, Melody is well aware of her roots and posting her music here at IMPNATION. I have not been in touch with her since then, its been a long long time I dont think she would even remember anyways, but yeah, getting a response was quite surprising. Just thought I share this with you all ,very humble person, and very gifted and has a good heart, and is being awarded with the recognition she deserves. Dedication and commitment and believing in oneself is the thing that can help a person make their own breaks and eventually rise to the top.
take care all

Really enjoyed reading this thread, especially your post, Bryon.
It wasn't hard to tell Miss Gardot had talent, she's reminiscent to me of Fiona Apple, really one of a kind. Actually the reason I invited her to the site was I was turned onto her by Steve Ison. When I was doing my huge canvassing of all the sites to invite artists, Steve had the most phenomenal playlists on garageband.com, some of the greatest acts we had here imo came from Steve's playlists, like Sully and Sugarplum Fairies, 2 indies I think if they had been signed and distributed by major labels would be household names right now like the Eagles and Nirvana.

Steve Ison invited me over to IAC, after meeting him on garageband...
IAC came along and filled the gap, and Steve became my collabro bro for a few fruitful years.
Collabros may lead to new directions, Sting's collabros with Melody gave her a global platform, my impression anyway...
Sting, sing us a song, if you wanna get back to the numinous luminous...
