As I've told you before, there are other factors in the charting formula. One of them is stream completion percentage. If one song has a lot of short duration plays, that will bring down its ranking. Also when the plays are received is a factor as well.
We have a dedicated support hotline, at iacsupporthotline@gmail.com . Sitewide, this is where support issues go. We're not going to have people use the front page access of the pipeline whenever they have a support issue so please send your problem directly to the tekkies next time. Thanks!

Well, for one thing (and there are many other factors) the older plays are, the less they count.
Let's say that string of question marks in your original post represents the plays a song has had over a two month period. The one right after "HERE" would be worth 1.0. The 22nd one, presume it occurred a month ago, would be worth about 0.675. And the 45th one, at the end of the string, maybe one day short of two months ago - would be worth about .075. The value of plays degrades over time.
For another thing, once you've added up the value of all the plays with respect to the timeline, you have to look at the average duration of a play and multiply by that. A lot of short clicks, even if unique, can drag a chart ranking down. If you have a player on your artist page, or on myspace, or your domain site, that starts playing whenever someone visits the page, and a lot of those visitors quickly move to another page, say to view your blog, pictures or videos for example, then the embedded player will stop and you'll have a short play registered.

OK, @ Dave,
Well if some one for instance set up a player, of an artist whom they wished to discredit, then drove lots of traffic to it, getting lots of short duration plays, they could in effect deliberately game you "down" the charts,
I look at my own traffic and see during feb, it increased by ten fold, effectively decreasing my chart positions proportionately???
That could be considered "Screwed Up"

well traffic on the site is at an alltime high, a lot of people are getting heard more, so the proportionate share you're getting may be lower in relation.

When I signed up here about a year ago I became thoroughly confused by a great many things and got very frustrated. I finally engaged in a fairly heated discussion with Scott, who posted on this blog above and is the C.O.O. around here...I give Scott a lot of credit because he actually took the time to read some very lengthy messages I sent him, and replied comprehensively. Ultimately, he assembled a lengthy list of FAQs. I think these are VERY INFORMATIVE and I'd encourage anybody who feels baffled or frustrated to check it out:

As for the charts specifically - I started out as a complete chart junkie. BREAK THE HABIT! It'll just lead to hypertension and worse...the charts serve a purpose, but they're not the be-all and end-all - for me anyway this site has mostly become a great musician-to-musician networking site and a place where many kind folks provide generous support that keeps me motivated...usually(!)...ROCK ON!

what i don't get, is some where some one said that the time of a play is a factor in where it is placed, if so then what time zone is that dependant on? or is every artist designated a specific time zone relevant to them? because an artist in say new zeland would be more beneficiall than an artist in new york, does that make sense? and at what time does the number of plays get counted? when are they managed?

I believe everything is based on and relative to GMT. Again, questions like this should be sent to support where the tekkies are.

This is Fascinating!
It's the old co operation ,versus competition argument (in drag)
Indie Music is attempting to rewrite the rules about how we get our music heard, but most of us (self included) still fall for the "Great Production" sound over the interesting but weird , simply because we have been exposed to well engineered sounds for decades, and it's hard for us to alter our perception!
Just remember, lots of those artists got ripped of by managers , record companies etc and though they tasted fame, the money never stuck!
Grace Slick apparently sells memorabilia and does paintings etc these days!
Jimmi never got rich!!
The Charts are just for fun / some will never get on them b/cos they don't get found!
INPUT + TIME + LUCK = CHART SUCCESS
AND THEN--------------------------?

If people like what you have, word will get around and your plays will add up. I'm not sure I understand how the charts work either and try not to pay attention to them. That doesn't disapoint me. Not being nominated in any category for one of those neat little Kayak awards, well, I'm just all broken up about that one.. ;-)
