Any Crowded House fans out there?
I don't know why they're not more highly thought of. I think Neil Finn is a genius with melody and he's got a sweet, sweet voice. Maybe it's because they don't rock. But what they do is often sublime. Was just listening to a Neil Finn solo album this morning and everything on it was just perfect.

I fell in love with the first probably the only only song I've heard by them.
"Don't Dream it's Over". Good to hear their name again :)

Yeah, I'm a huge fan. He has a near perfect voice, and I only say 'near' but I don't quite believe in perfection. Great songwriting, great lyrics (well, I think so. He sort of channels John Lennon sometimes).
I, too, have no idea why there's not more talk about them.
As for rocking, "Kill Eye" is pretty rockin, I think.
Oh, and I just wanted to say, those are some strong guitars and very strong keyboard work there. There aren't a lot of bands that can combine the two that way and make sense.

You should follow the Finns to their current efforts, D. My son being my enlightenment ... in curious irony.
They are today, as good as they were when they were in Split Enz ... and I suspect they'll still produce good shit forward.
When you got it, you got it.
Kev out ... but this was worth mentioning.

I was sorry to learn that Paul Hester had killed himself. He was good for the group although sounds like a pain in the ass.
Eddie Rayner has always been a longtime influence on me, and I could tell in an instance that he was playing on their albums.
Crowded House songs .... can be beautiful, if not (intentionally) quirky and off-kilter. That is: from the Crowded House albums we can learn a lot about how to make different sounding songs that are GOOD and not just "indie" sounding, if you know what I mean.
I was with Split Enz right from the start, and cite their "Mental Notes" album as being pretty influential on me.

I spent a fair amount of time with the WOODFACE album when it was new and I saw them live once. I've always been especially fond of the tune "You'd Better Be Home Soon" (not on that album though, I think) - yeah, wish I could sing like Neil...and I agree, very creative sounds and beautiful melodies & harmonies. Still for some reason they don't quite make it to my "personal faves" list though.

Tom and co
It's awesome to see a Kiwi/ Aussie band get World recognition
their music is distinctive and recognisable--- but hard to cover.
Neils voice is quite unique I think----Tim Finn also does amazing originals but is no longer in the band
I think he is replaced by Neils son Liam who is also a solo act-----they live just down the road LOL!!
