Keeping one's mind on the music
So many distractions in today's society with all the social media and political turmoil. It's actually hard to find artists these days who are honed in on what brought us here in the first place. I am reminded of my pal Lyin Dan who bought a fix-me-up house and then we pretty much never saw him again. Another guy I know who is a collaborator, when weed wackin' season is here he's off to the races. People fall in love or get consumed with their property and lose any semblance of their musical spirit, which is a bummer to see because i know as a fact they are happiest when their musical self is flowing. but they become single-minded and this pushes their music into a side cubbyhole that they seemingly can't find the time to visit at that point.

Indeed FT. Truer words than one can know. Too many distractions indeed.
I got so caught up in my dads estate it consumed me, but that is to be expected. It is a lot of work. now nearing the end, it has drained me, depressing at times. dealing with my brothers has been daunting. family - siblings are a pain man
Glad I have music, rediscovering it the last while. Wanting to get back at it. Trying to discover different sounds. Still struggling though. but it will come back again
love my garden too, it feeds me and my wife and gave lots of veggies away to neighbors and my kids. Still harvesting .so many potatoes butternut squash and garlic ,expanded the garden this year, dug up a lot of the backyard lawn.
why have a lawn, pfff. a waste of space
thanks for your note, we need our asses kicked around here.
cheers

So true, FT. And I have been going through very rough times. Music and writing are all there is for me anymore, and all that keeps me sane. And I have people close to me who have done great damage to me over the last four months trying to destroy my musical spirit. Fuck all that is evil in this world and let the music play!

There is going to be a lot of desperate folks looking for answers and a way out. There is no way out to late when the man with the bargains has passed you by. Ever thought there is something missing in your life but your not sure what it is. In my case a 12 string electric guitar. I could never afford the Rickenbacker one and i can only have one star instrument a Fender precision special 1980 i almost stole that swapped it for a Rickenbacker 4001 70,s. Someone i think liked Prince because they rattle canned it purple. They must have been blind or stupid. So i got it for 375. But i did spend 2 weeks taking it back to natural and about 8 coats of lacquer then on a buffing machine. Someone came up to me in a pub when i was playing and offered me a straight swap for the Fender. It,s USA, gold hardware and red. I thought this guy is trying to cover his tracks with a stolen bass. Found out he stayed 5 doors away. It was his to swap that was 1987 still got it. Found out it was Fenders first ever active bass. It,s like owning Americana history

Distractions? Geesh! When the entire world seems o be on fire and death is waiting for you hiding behind every unmasked pair of lips. One cannot help but be distracted. I use my music as a way o escape the realities of these "last days" episodes. They are being played out on the tele, newspapers and online. Such a sad desperate state deserves to be temporarilly ignored in favor ofn artistsic expression and creation. Lets face it! The world sucks right now! My music is the only thing that I have control over. So, I use it to escape this madness that we call life. Fuck reality! Build an alternate in your music and then live in it. Rock On!

Is life worth fixing who would you support. I don't know myself no-one wants to be on wrong side or what ever. Is it not about the acquisition of something

Somebody sang Imagine no possessions. It's easy if you try. Then again Lennon had a whole floor of the Dakota filled with musical instruments he never once played.

FT you have inspired me. Time to write. Been so stupid busy with work home. Just took a week off and I spent it cleaning my Round barn workshop. I do wood working for pin money, and projects that keep the wife happy.
Time for a happy song.... forget the doom and gloom on the news . Thanks for the reality check!

I'm so glad that during my most productive music making era, I managed to accumulate such a huge back catalog of songs, I really don't need to make more, which is fortunate as I have no room in my 'property' to even set up a desk let alone any music making equipment, speakers, mic etc.
However apart from a few short breaks I still get immense pleasure from 'playing around' with old stuff (that most people have never heard) and making them more digestible - often going back to the first, simple mix.
A big problem I have now is my singing voice which deteriorates with each passing year, can't get high or low and can't hold notes so well.
I have one big beef with my extended family.... although I have many, many songs which I consider good, every time they speak of me online or in person they remind me of a stupid song I wrote 40 years ago when they were kids (before I took up the hobby seriously) One niece even remembers all the lyrics (I don't) and last week I was asked for a copy.... I don't think recording had been invented back then bwhahaha! Jilly x

Jilly, just find that neutral voice. You may be surprised to hear it put out these pleasing sounds full of love, joy and spirit....

I concur with Ft and Norm. As an avid fan for many many years and adding so much of Jilly's music to many stations with glowing reviews I agree on her special gift she is blessed with. We all know here at imp that her voice is so unique and special. Always a joy to listen to Jilly : ) You have many fans here Jilly who are avid listeners. BT

Thank you B T - You must know how much I've loved your reviews over the years, and even though I lose them when I remove a song, what you've said (and Steve A) stays with me. It's just that I've been feeling (for maybe 2 years) that my performing days are over here at IMP .... for many reasons. However guys, I am inspired to start things up again. Jilly x
