I totally agree with Karen Carpenter. Bryon. And not only a great singer, but an amazing drummer! Top shelf.
And I agree with all of your picks, Scott, indie and mainstream.
And I want to add Samantha Fish, Mikaela Davis, and one of my favorite guitarists, Mary Halvorson.

These are my friends, the “Revolt-Chix”, was my friend and former Social Spit! Drummer Kriss Roth-Sellers, she used to be the drummer here, but she moved over to lead vocalist and does just as well there. Pay close attention to the Guitar player, Gaylene. She is better than me!

Here she is, playing drums at their very first show. This was sometime around 2012… “Late Night Lust”, there are a couple of different “chix” playing in that rendition of the band…

And PHINally, this is an old band that I used to play with called CYKA (pronounced “SOOKA”)
This is Kitty, Kitten Johnson singing. She passed away about six months after we played this show, ?? (I don’t know if the frowny face will show on this BBS).
This was at the world famous Doll Hut in Anaheim. Now she was not much to look at, but she could sure belt it out. We had a bunch of songs in a previous band called Pharmacy, where we did a lot of harmonizing, she was a good singer, which was why I stuck around for over seven years. Hm, 2010 to 2017? We kept going without her for a few years, it wasn’t the same.We broke up in 2022, during Covid,

Aimee Mann, Shawn Colvin, both strong songwriters. Madison Cunningham - check her out if you haven't - Ella, Aretha, Billie, Etta James, Carole King, Gladys Knight. These are women who could sing the alphabet song, and make it sound good.

I didn’t notice Larrees video was a HARP cover, HAHAhaHA! that deserves playback.
I didn’t want to give the standard response to a polling like this, I’d choose Janis Joplin and Carole King. But I never got to see Janis or Carole in their heydays. My sister kept playing Carole’s 1st album to distraction!
One night I saw Janis Ian open for Jackson Browne, she was good, but not better than Jackson, not at all. But still good, backed by good players. She had a real good guitar player, played a big fat Gibson L4? L5? He stood behind David Lindley for Jackson’s whole set. Finally he gestures to Jackson, came up and whispered something. Next thing we see? He jumps on stage with his big fat guitar and Jackson gives him a solo for Dizzy Miss Lizzy!
I also saw Rachel Sweet open for Graham Parker and the Rumours, THAT was good.
I wanted to give examples of great women playing real punk rock,,, I don’t have many videos of em, and the ones I posted here rarely see th light o day…and I can also add “I was THERE”.

Graham Parker was great. You can't be too strong. You decide what's wrong.
