I made a decision about AI songs.
They will not be eligible to win a Golden Kayak under any circumstances.

It's just something I thought we needed to do as a bit of a statement for those who are steadfastly organic songwriters.

An absolutely fair and reasonable decision, Scott.

I appreciate your willingness to give space on the site to AI-assisted songs. (-:

thanks for your work and support as a station manager

I double check them once in a while to make sure.

Not only do I support Scott's decision. I am happy as all hell! Why? Because...

Larree AI should be my avatar name when I play computer games. Larree AI should be my Mayor's name the next time I play Sim City! Suno, to me, is a computer game; A musical virtual world. Like Second Life. A game! And to many, Second Life is not a game. It can be quite real. And so is AI music. It is real for the people who believe it to be true. Maybe some people will be "huge stars" in AI music. A lot of people might dig it just enough to stream it, accept it as their favorite main title theme from a crappy TV show or movie, or whatever. It's the soundtrack of their lives. But eventually, the people will know they've been conned. Real music played by real people will win this game.

Thank you for this decision Scott, but I would go much farther. Songs that arise from Prompts should not be allowed on a Indie/songwriting/Artist site as a Prompt does not make an artist or songwriter. I have been hanging out on SUNO sites just to see how delusional things are getting, and a war is starting between real Artist/Songwriters/Musicians and what I like to call the "Prompters". They fully believe they have earned the right to be called Artists and Songwriters. I can still remember my first songs, how bad they were, and my bleeding fingers as I learned how to play the Guitar. My dues have been fully paid, and I will defend the title of Artist/writer/musician because I know it takes talent as well as determination and hard work just to be presentable. These people are using titles not earned, while confusing the average music listener.

AI is good, and it's going to get better. None of us can compete as AI is spitting out full blown productions with professional arrangements and vocals. They are then uploaded to the streaming sites in record numbers making it even harder to be heard. Don't get me wrong, not all AI is bad when used as a tool. I would support using it like a session player who adds parts to fully original songs. The Beatles got full writing credit, but many times session players added something on their own, or used arrangements supplied by George Martin. Suno may have some life in this realm acting like a session player invited in to "add" to an original arrangement.

I feel strongly about this, especially when I listen to a fully AI created song and have to admit it's good...the Technology is amazing, and it is no wonder having trained off the talent of world class musicians and writers. Anyway, that's my take. Take it or leave it. If you are a "Prompter" please try to step into our shoes...That of a Writer, Musician, and Artist. Respectfully, Jeff

Since I have played with it a lot, I am pretty good at hearing if a track is a Suno track. It's hard to explain. It's like back in the day different record labels had their own sound. Motown. Columbia. CTI Jazz, etc. Suno has a sound.

Ai so called detector systems

well

I went and tried all these out some time ago as a lark for the heck of it , and I used my original material that I have done in the past which are established tunes and the so called Ai detectors all said it is possible that the song could or might be Ai ? what!!

huh the thing said they might be Ai assisted ,so I can tell you, I ran them through the systems out there and these were produced by me. and I did piano music, a mix of instrumentals with various instruments ,some with vocals some with lots of production, and did a number that were collabs.

So after running through these songs through so called Ai detectors. The conclusion was=========maybe could be might be. !??

All that came back was that my songs were possible Ai or might be when in fact they , the music i did was all my own and the assessment came back as it is possible they are or might be Ai assisted

come on

you think these so called Ai detectors really work, not by my evaluation, I tried them all, on my own music and it was no definitive answer. just maybe could be might be and or yes really , you gonna trust these so called test for Ai assistance ?

now maybe if the songs where done by prompted type assistance on Ai you could or might get some kind of affirmation, yet I doubt it

anyways its a crap shoot, a gamble and who knows what will happen, some here may get the bums rush and get told your song does not meet the criteria when in fact the songs were all organic and originals

I dont trust any of these Ai detectors as far as I could throw them!!

I don't use AI but I do use samples and Digital software.
I'm sure many artists here use drum machines, synthesizors, sequencers, vocal correction, special effects etc! Our music is not as pure as someone just playing a single instrument or a band giving a live performance, but it can still have listener appeal.
So my point is, where do we draw the line? At the end of the day we just want to provide something original and playable without negative or analytical judgement.

If you use Suno to process your tune you will probably get snagged.

I just ran some of my music through the AI music checker. Here are some results.

(The AI Probability percentage can be misleading. If you notice, the solo acoustic guitar and voice demo, Ode to Robert Hunter, has a higher AI Probability percentage than Backwards, a full production number recorded at Russ's studio! So, take that part with a grain of salt.)

Larree AI - Bond Level Shit (AI Production)
Prediction:
Pure AI Generated
AI Probability:
96.34%
Most Likely AI Type:

Contemplating Waves - Backwards

Larree - Ode to Robert Hunter

My ears are tuned into it. Suno has a sound. Like the Motown Sound, the Wrecking Crew Sound, or the Nashville Sound. I hear a Suno song, any genre, and I know instantly. And more than that, many Suno content creators invent artist personas to present to the public. It's an interesting phenomenon. The sad part is that the streaming and distribution industries are cool with it because subscriptions to their services are skyrocketing. It's here to stay.

Laree I appreciate the transparency… unfortunately many are delusional thinking they are actual artists/writers afte supplying a prompt. Or a few lyrics. A question was asked what is the most important aspect of a song Music/Melody or the lyrics.? Since most at the AI site could not play or write Music/ melodies the overwhelming answer to the question was “ The Lyrics” … I do not agree.;

A sequencer or an arp could be called an ai assist. Especially if it has a random function. Also i believe this site has scraped by AI likes of SUNO many times. Golden Kayak is special and agree it should be off bounds to AI assisted songs. This has never been a problem in the past. Or have an AI section in the kayaks. Maybe someone only used 20 or 30% AI assist 70% is there,s. Music is music no matter how it,s made. If we start saying this is only good enough and that,s not. It leaves a question on the open to everyone attitude of this site. One of it,s greatest strengths

Sequencers have been around since like the 80s, the rule refers to the modern AI situation.
