Stupidest Song I ever Heard and Track of the Day!!
Well folks,
It looks like my song So much to learn got Stupidest song I ever heard and Track of the Day almost at the same time at GB!!! How do they work that on out? may be they gave it to the wrong song. Track of the day I mean. Any clues??

Vincenzo ... I don't think anyone can understand Garageband....
I have a song over there that recieved the following awards.....

I wrote the song about dealing with death .... so the "Best Mood" and the most "Bitter Breakup Song" awards are a little strange....
Your songs are Great and alls it takes is one idiot to nominate your song as "The Stupidest Song I ever heard" and unfortunately, if it is the only song in that genre nominated for that award that week... then your song gets stuck with that award...
I do not like the System over there ... just don't take anything to seriously..

About the only good thing that's come out of my experiences with garageband is that some kind soul pushed me in the direction of IAC. I've also had some trax of the day there but it doesn't seem to help the artist much or do anything for their "chart" rankings. There's too much nastiness and "you're in the wrong category" jive over there. Their categories are (imho) so narrow as to be useless and anyway what "categories" were Jeff Buckley, Miles, the Fabs and/or Frank Zappa in? My other beef is that it seems very set up towards a few "stars" and the other 9 million slobs who are graciously permitted to put up their songs that undoubtedly will not go to the second round despite a 4.8 rating (you'll note the voice of experience here). 5 stars? What is this, the Rolling Stone record guide? Last thing I wanna do is offend anyone who digs GB (still put stuff up there myself) but this has mostly been my experience there in the last 7 years. IAC beats it by a longshot.

I like the message in that song a lot, as only a parent with adult children can really appreciate. Also I enjoyed your page, especially the photos. And finally "An Angel Told Me" is the biggest hit in our home this week. Thanks VP!!

The thing is with Garageband is that you have to review everything that comes your way..
Here,i'd (obviously) only do glowing reviews of songs i love for stations-and ignore ones i didn't..
There you get to hear it REALLY like it is,which (especially to begin with) in my experience can hurt lol
IAC seems to be much more about making personal connections with other musicians-which is wonderful -but you're unlikely be given any critique about your track/songwriting etc which includes maybe things you don't wanna hear, but could learn from with that...
Garagebands impersonal nature means its geared up for hearing/giving opinions of all shades good and bad..
I genuinelly like both styles of OMD-and think they both offer something interesting..

Yeah G.B. would be great if "you really got to hear it like it is" ... unfortunately a lot of times you don't ... there are way to many (Simon's) out there that want to put down everything that doesn't sound like what they play ...
The whole process reeks from the beginning when they emphasize, (Who does this band sound like ?)
I challenge anyone to listen to Vincenzo's songs and show me any tune he has that really deserves a "Stupidest Song I Ever Heard" nomination...

Gee, I knew I could count on you guys to help me lick my wounds....I am purring already!!!
I didn't actually have a problem with my song being awarded SSIEH or GB per se. I just thought it to be inconsistent to have a song given the SSIEH and then be placed as song of the day. May be I just don't understand the process there.
As far as getting reviews at GB, I found it to be a rewarding experience so far. I have had some good constructive reviews there, which I can put to good use. Even bad reviews can be helpful as long as they are honest and constructive, however I am only new there, so time will tell.
I think there is too much emphasys generally on Genre in the music arena, it can be helpful to categorize artists, but I find that it can restrict creativity and musical evolution.
I hate the Who do we sound like questions, hopefully we don't sound like anybody else but ourselves. Who did those that we are supposed to sound like, sounded like before they became famous??
I have to say that I find IAC to be a wonderful community for songwriters. Probably because we all have so much in common.

P.S: As far as the SSIEH award, it probably should be scrapped. It doesn't help anybody and nobody deserves it. Taste is such a personal thing, remember when we thought that blue and green should never be seen!!

Yeah, Vincenzo....I can understand how that would leave you scratching your head! Actually wanted to apologize for using your original question to go on a personal whingefest about GB. Fully agree with Steve that the blindfold test element is a cool "no pain no gain" idea and I've received some great advice there (despite my rantings to the contrary yesterday). Definitely some there who should lay off the codine cough syrup before writing reviews but I guess yer gonna get that anywhere. I wonder if those "best elevator song" or "stupidest song" comments aren't an ill-fated attempt at humour or keeping things light. We all know probably know how a "battuta" can fall flat in the context of an e-mail...maybe similar deal at GB? Maybe they could set up a Monte Python inspired "Nasty Room" or something here at IAC where everybody rips each others material apart...just as long as they don't adopt those little stars! Cheers.

We used to have a Totally Raw Reviews section but participation was slow. Seems most people's main motive to review is reciprocity, to get a click. Others ignored the disclaimer on the door, got raw reviews and then left the site devastated. Personally I find Garageband very weak due to the way you're encouraged to write happy buttkissing reviews even if you hate the song or you get low ratings. If you really want to know what real listeners think of your song, my advice would be to go into an aol or yahoo music chatroom and ask for feedback. Artists reviewing other artists has never really worked the way it should.

It hasn't been like that for a while Toby..Someone else,not the artist themselves marks the review now.
I've got a high Reviewer rating there and always said exactly what i thought,good or bad..
I tried the same thing here doing a review station 'Steve Ison Reviews' a while back, but made unintentional enemies when some people took objection to the reviews i gave-even tho i included a warning i would be totally honest.

I tried the GB thing one morning - spent about two hours doing complete listens and relatively thorough reviews and only had about the half the credit I needed to get a song in. I wasn't gonna send them any money, and that's just too much time, from my perspective. From visiting a few pages to see how some friends do over there, it has seemed to me that the majority of reviews I saw there are relatively meaningless. I'm too old to want to change any of my stuff on the basis of somebody else's comments anyway - unless I have an idea and get an opinion I trust that confirms my idea. I'm not just an independent artist - I'm a stubborn independent artist (lol) and I'm not the only one around here, that's for sure!
As far as Toby's mention of "reciprocity" that concept is unfortunate if it's a "calculated" or "insincere" one...but to me, it makes sense that people who enjoy each other's work gladly tout it. The physical structure of this site encourages a supportive atmosphere, and that's part of its charm. To me this site is about the freedom to find the stuff you really enjoy and help spread the word about it, if you're inclined to do more than post your songs and sit back waiting. It's a music lover's paradise, whether you make music or not - as long as you enjoy listening...one of my favorite things to do around here is visit a friend and mention a new artist I think they'll enjoy. Sincere enjoyment of discovering, listening, and sharing.
Vincenzo, I think you're absolutely right...contradictory silliness...

Come to think of it, I kind of covet that "Stupidest Song I Ever Heard" title...hmm...maybe I'll start up over there (lol)...Ballet Class and Gear Lust come to mind as contenders...

Absolutely Vincenzo...lo meriti veramente! Looking forward to hearing your Godfather voice. Such a difference between the bosses in Italia and the States. Stateside you get the Gotti Versace look....a lot of the Italian guys look like they shop at k-mart, 'specially wierd because the rest of the country looks like the cover of GQ. Anyway, congrats man.

Who knows, next an Oscar for the Godfather! Actually I have a video of me doing something like that, so when I return from my holiday in two weeks time, I might post it somewhere!!
