Should AI so called created music be allowed on any musician/Artist music site?
The way I see it, AI music is not created through a living human musician/Artist & therefore, should not be allowed on "people" created music sites! They should be made to put up there AI junk on web sites that are created for such stuff! Keep in mind, that these AI music creators are NOT musicians nor Artists>

Everything in that AI was influenced by actual humans. I'm still on the fence about this.

If you like a song you like it - fact. But it is a little disappointing when you hear that same voice on other songs by different artists.
I don't have a problem with the instrumental parts because this is just how sequenced music works, but it still needs a clever arranger.
However, I do prefer an artist/performer doing their own thing, not quite hitting the notes, getting the timing slightly off, running out of breath etc. now that's real and kinda pulls at the emotions a little more. I expect AI will soon start sounding more 'normal' before long.
Hey, give me "wabi-sabi" (the beauty of imperfection) any day, those Japanese know what they're talking about.

I admit I am fascinated by the technology. I have no problem sharing the space with AI creators as long as they are honest about their contributions to a work. I currently have two AI pieces on IMP. One of them is a Hip Hop version of the Preamble to the Constitution, and the other is an old William Blake poem done in a progressive rock style, both using AI-created music and voices. I know quite a few AI producers who do upload their own lyrics and melodies into the machine. I am not comfortable doing that - yet.

It is the future of music, and it would behoove us to embrace this new technology so that we are not left behind. The genie is out of the bottle, and it is here to stay. I refuse to be a spectator.

Also, may I add, many AI music creators are real musicians. I'm a real musician. No one on IMP would deny that. And Russ, my partner in Contemplating Waves, uses mixing and mastering software that is driven by AI. And no one would ever deny his superb music skills.

I understand the quandary of AI Created music. Yes a human has to influence the piece / Work. But then the "Machine" does everything else. I personally will not do it. It's not real to me. the fun ( For Myself ) Is the labor of crafting the song. Music Lyrics Licks. Not all played perfectly. time maybe a little off at times. But that Push Pull of a song. striving for a perfect sound. That's my Jam.

It's sad to me that someone can create a flawless song in 30 seconds what takes me weeks, or Months to do.

But to me ... It's worth it. Because, its the fun.

My 2 cents

Bruce

Hi Bruce, most of the "songs" I have created with Suno since going for the Black Friday Special are hardly flawless. Some of the stuff it spit back it me is hilarious. But I will say this about it. I can sit here and write a song, record a quick guitar and voice demo, upload it into Suno, and create a dozen demos in multiple genres at multiple tempos in an hour! That alone makes AI an invaluable tool. Imagine trying to do that in a studio with real musicians. It could take weeks to do that. So, with AI you can write your song, and do all this work before you bring it to your band and save a ton of actual rehearsal time.

But I will also agree with you 100% that the actual work writing songs is totally worth it. I would much rather sit here with my acoustic guitar and a pad and pencil to write my songs. I don't need AI to do that part for me.

Larree- I’d love to hear an example of how Suno created alternate versions of a song of yours. Can you post some of it here?

Sure Richard! Here ya go!

I took this song - Good Neighbor - and loaded it into Suno with a prompt to make it an electric punk song, and got this! Good Neighbor (Electric punk made with AI)

Very impressive! Love the electric guitar sound and style and the vocal was excellent. My only reservation was that the vocal sounded too much like Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day. But that seems like something that could be tweaked.
In any case, the new version is an amazing example of what AI can do. With the right guard rails, it can be a valuable tool. For me, originality
must be protected.

That was my first thought. Too much like Green Day. But very good! I know that many artists are opposed to this. I totally get Wes's strong feelings. And I respect that. But as I have said more than once, I refuse to be left behind by any new technology.

Music is music as far as I am concerned. I do not care about how it was created. The fact remains that it was conceived and created. Let it be. As a songwriter/producer I am not intimidated by the work of Ai. I welcome the challenge to compete. Let it be! Much Respect, Stoneman

Now, my one exception to this would be the use of another persons voice on the recording. I believe that the person whose voice was used should be paid a royalty or a work for hire fee.

Yes, Stoneman. I agree with both of your posts. We should welcome the challenge to compete, and artists should be compensated when their voices are used, just like any other voiceover artist. Respect!

Wes, I posted this on Rob's thread, but you may not see that, so I am copypasta-ing it over here, because you keep saying that AI artists are not real musicians. >>>

Wes, I gotta ask you point-blank. Do you think I am not a real musician because I am experimenting with and posting my AI music? I started singing and playing guitar in the 1960s. I have been playing in bands since 1970. I have written hundreds of songs. I have studied classical and jazz theory. Not to brag at all, because I am basically very humble and usually the first guy at a jam with three or more guitar players to lay down the rhythm and comp for the others, even if they are beginners and intermediate players, but I have more musical knowledge in my fingernail clippings than most. So, you're saying I'm not real because I am embracing AI music?

Here is my recommendation. If you hate AI that much, go sign up for some free accounts at a few of the many AI music creation platforms out there. Fool around with it. Treat it like any other computer game. Read The Art of War by Sun Tzu and follow his advice when he says, "Know thine enemy." Here is the full quote:

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained, you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
~ Sun Tzu, The Art of War

I am definitely not looking for a confrontation or a battle with you. I am simply offering an opportunity to grow and learn, and to understand what it is that you hate. Perhaps you may find that it is not as bad as you imagine.

Peace, your brother in music.

And I agree with that, Bruce. I prefer doing my own thing, too. Gimme my guitar, a pad, a pencil, and a nice spot under a tree, and I'm a happy man! But let's face it. Once we get into a studio, it's a digital universe. Unless, of course, we are still using tape machines and old-style effects. AI is just an extension of that digital music universe. But let's forget that for a moment. At least you are not saying that people who do use AI are not real artists and musicians. That would be like saying that guitarists who use capos are not real guitarists. Wes is saying that people who use AI are not real musicians or artists. I know that you don't think that. You just choose not to use this specific tool. You're not attacking me or my music skills, or lack thereof. Now, Wes isn't attacking me personally, but I am taking this on in defense of all the real musicians and artists who do use AI.

You know, they said the same crap about artists using sequencers to create music. But now it has become the norm for most musicians. Simply because iyt makes music creation easier. I welcome the new technologies as there is a chance that they may make me better. Whatever the case I have learned that people tend to downgrade things they don't understand. When I eventually discover that AI is better than me at music creation it will mean that I have to up my game and I will. But until then I will just let it be. I am not intimidated by AI in any way. The world keeps changing and fortunately, so do I.

Well, if you worked in a car factory(or anyplace else) I'd think "intimidation" WOULD BE "normal" for any "normal" person, who "needs a job to survive". If we("normal people") are going to HAVE TO BE "given FREE room and board" in order to make ends meet then "Population Control" IS COMING!!! And "Justifiably" so.
