Get your inspiration right here.
Are you a Neil Young fan? Here's something he did that mostly didn't see the light of day. I just saw it for the first time today. It's basically a concept record, done in this live show. He talks between songs, fills in all the exposition in the story, you never saw anything quite like it.
12/16/2016 1:23:03 PM
I really hope some of you check this out, it's amazing, sort of changed my life.
12/18/2016 8:15:18 AM
Did it really?
You must be quite the Neil Young fan.
I prefer Neil w Young. To each their own.
Neil w Young

Well, ALJ, with the greatest respect for my countryman (three years my junior), I am truly honored. You just made my day!! Thank you!! You cut some pretty mean tunes yourself.
12/19/2016 8:05:17 AM
You bet, Neil. Reading this put a smile on my face, and isn't it time Indies get
the recognition we deserve? And thank you.
12/19/2016 11:22:39 AM
With all due respect to Neil W., I'm surprised Lesley that you dismiss Grandpa Granola so swiftly. I think you too would be inspired by what Neil Young did on that video if you'd give it a look.

---- Updated 12/20/2016 8:26:19 AM
Hi Scott. How are you old buddy? I have missed you.
I have missed our friendship. There's real affection there,
and my mistake was always equating that with, uh, girl stuff... nuff said.
But anyway, you bring a fair point up, so I shall, uh, expound.
First of all, you speak of Neil Young... okay my opinion of him
isn't as 'go f- off' as Lynyrd Skynryrd or however they spell it....
(you know the reference in Sweet Home Alabama?)
but it started off 'huh?' for a while sailed up high there,
(like, once, I heard "When You Dance I Can Really Love" done Live
during all that Rust Never Sleeps era, and I was tripping on LSD at
the time, and it was like hearing God Talk, it was some heavy shit. Okay?
Like, Holy SHIT Are You HEARING THIS??? and guys in the room
who weren't even tripping, did hear it, 'there's more going on there
than meets the eye' one of 'em said...)
and then, settled back down,
around the time I saw him hawking half-assed mp3 players for sale...
and it really hit the tarmac,
once I wrote to him, and said outright,
"surely there's just as much reason to speak out loud about shit now?
Let's join forces, and make a thing that'll make a difference."
And sure, one can argue, he's done his bit, he don't have to.
Me, I say as long as an artist is breathing, that artist is still on the clock.
Or else, where'd the artist go? What, you suddenly don't give a shit?
When did that happen? Where did you go? The you we knew?
Where did that go?
Raises a lot of questions certainly.
Now, my first, ever,
as a boy, thought about Neil Young,
was 'he's got a funny old lady whiney voice'.
I did. That's my first thought, about Mr Harvest's voice.
I almost WANNA call him something besides that,
because this guy here, one of our own, Neil W Young,
I do like his stuff better than Neil Young's stuff. I didn't make that up.
Neil W Rocks.
And Harvest, he ain't done that in a while.
Grandpa Granola? Is that yours? Or is that a 'thing' now?
I really thought he was losin' it, with "Mansion On The Hill"
"peace and love live there still in the mansion on the hill"
Yeah, but kiss my ass, Harvest guy,
'cause ain't nobody inviting ME into that fuckin' mansion.
here's another argument,
(Not that I'm deciding NOT to look at the video, Scott,
and I'm sure it's interesting, I'm just a very busy person,
and I do not know, that this, will hit my priorities list, honestly Dear Brother)
of why, I made a point,
to come in,
and say 'Neil Young? What about Neil W Young?'
(and by the way, I know you make it a little dubya, but I just did a big one,
and it looks, cool, to me. Don't know why, may not mean nothin'... but...
there that goes... Neil W Young. I like it. That's me. it's a name,
Why, do you know, that when I first saw Our Neil's name,
I thought for real, it was a duo? I thought it meant "Neil... with...Young"
like it was two guys... I did! Honest to God I did. No, it's one guy. I know now.)
see, I've been saying for some time,
there's an Indie Revolution waiting to happen,
and indeed, an Indie Invasion
(the title of my being made as we speak upcoming ALJ album,
as a matter of fact)
waiting to happen....
and ultimately, Indie Music People dot com,
I believe, is going to become a greatly influential force,
and also, once we figure out how to wire it, a big huge commercial success,
(and I'm sure you're workin' on that, and you know I am)
and part of 'our whole gig' here,
is promote Indies.
Not guys who already are promoted, and now, are
part of the story of How We Got Here.
I'd hang out with Harvest. Smoke a joint with him.
Maybe write a tune if he felt like it, I'd be game.
Make a record out of it one two three skidoo. Definitely.
I'd even cover, if I still did 'em (covers)
When You Dance I Can Really Love, maybe...
but that said,
I also would've covered that Hot Rod number Neil W does,
that one runs up one side of you and down the other,
but really, what would have been the point of me doing it?
You only cover a song, to either better it,
which wasn't gonna happen, he nailed it to begin with,
or to fuck it up, and that, I wouldn't wanna do,
well, okay there's a third thing, which is you make a cover
that sounds so much like the original, it's hard to say anything about
it besides 'sounds just like the other one',
and that, would've been what I did with that,
so what would be the point, once you realize that.
Neil Young, Harvest guy, has his place in history.
Neil W, is one of us.
We should be promoting our own. That is how I see it.
Not to take away, from you talking about something that has
inspired you, Scott.
The similarity of names, led me into the post....
I mean, if Neil Young's name had been Ritchie Talisman,
well we ain't got one of them, do we?
See? Then I wouldn't have said nothin'.
Neil W Young, Rocks.
I'd be proud to do a record with him.
I'd be proud to do a record with you again if you ever get the taste for it.
Ten years, whenever.
Peace and Love.
(And I'll totally redouble all efforts to keep all girly giggly stuff to myself,
I do promise you that. No way you should ever be made uncomfortable
just 'cause some stupid superheroine gets all dopey and dreamy sometimes)
12/20/2016 8:34:14 AM
ALJ writes cool stuff, this reminds me a lot of the old newspaper articles we used to get ( when papers used to be delivered to our doorstep, yanno, and you open it up read a few things, maybe the front page talking about War in Viet Nam, then skip to the food and beverage section , then go to the good part under the arts and music section and find out the records that were released and the critics review.Find out who was coming to town to perform at the Coliseum, people like Jackson Browne or Led Zep, even Simon and Garfunkle, I miss those days of holding a paper in front of my face by the fireplace which be crackling and hissing and spitting embers all over the rug because you didnt have a firescreen and it left glowing embers smoking away while you read and then you had to throw a glass of water on it
anyways, yeah , those were the days when music was good, the newspaper was a gold mine of information with riveting articles and good reporters and music was on FM radio
now what do we have, I do kinda miss those days. when things were simple.
12/20/2016 8:57:03 AM
Byron, was that you who put me on the Garage Band station? Thanks for that!
We, right now, I feel, are actually at, a brand new Beginning...
All of us....
I say, we are coming into our own, and it's just starting to happen now.
We hit the scene, We The Indies, oh, almost a generation ago, incredibly.
That's how long it's been, since mp3.com.
Human beings who did not exist then, now drive cars,
and are better on a computer than we'll ever be. Scary thought, that.
That, was the Birth of Indie, mp3.com.
And I was there, and a lot of us were.
But by now, you know, we're all just about to become of age.
We're becoming professionals. Many of us already are.
And as this progresses, we just keep getting betterer and betterer,
Am I the only one who sees this coming?
The world is in turbulence, and all kinds of upheaval has
been spotted on the horizon.
But, at the same time, ironically it can be just those particular
kinds of times of upheaval, that can have coinciding,
great new waves of spontaneous creativity.
I'm feeling that. I was feeling it with the new Bsex album,
(which is, to my estimation even being a part of it,
a very professionally done album)
and I'm feeling it now working on the next ALJ album
(Yeah, when I say I'll never make another album, just stick
the friggin' pacifier back in my mouth and say 'there there baby jane')
and as you (or whoever put me on the station)
pointed out, yeah, the thing is as you noted, not exactly over produced,
but over played,
that was intentional,
I went for a garage band sound, and I got just that.
Almost as 'okay lemme do something DIFFERENT'
since B'sex had just released a highly professional sounding album,
14 songs no less! And I wasn't gonna try to do that, top them at their game.
I'm a member of BEATLESEX, but it sound like that,
'cause of all of us.
Now ALJ, my boys are technically staff in my ALJ 'house band'
and they'll offer consultation of course... goes without saying....
but it's my gig, and they get to relax because of that....
and they follow my lead very much, on my ALJ records....
I literally said "okay, I don't wanna get all meticulous with this one
like we all just did with that mind melting month of work we just did...'
and they picked right up,
"right, we're a garage band"
and that's what we did,
anyone who's ever had a garage band
with or without the garage,
knows, it's loud, it's fun,
and everybody's jammin their asses off.
If you get to where you begin to develop concrete parts,
definitive arrangements, well then you're becoming professionals.
I went for garage band, as a 'production direction and arrangement direction',
actually it's more arrangement wise,
'cause, production wise, I did round the rough edges,
and it is decently produced,
I approached the production as a producer,
and I let the band be the garage band thing it was,
for this particular record...
Ain't sayin' all the songs on the new ALJ album will be like this.
Odds are, they will not. Each one, may end up going in a different direction.
With BEATLESEX, we have a clear idea pretty much.
they know what they sound like (John and George)
and I know what we sound like...
I have more flexibility there,
I can literally go in any freakin' direction I fancy at the moment.
And this time, it was 'be a garage band',
so it tickled me several shades of electric pink, to have
the song end up in a station called Garage Band or whatnot.
That was Awesome. Thank you again for that. You're cool too Bryinski.
I don't get as excited as I used to about yesterday.
'Cause you know, it's been an ebb for a long long time now.
We're due for the next wave of brilliance.
I for one aim to do my part. I'm a superheroine and it is expected of me isn't it.
12/20/2016 9:01:59 AM
yes, I admit ALJ it was the me putting your new song on Garage band. so maybe I was too picky and analytical. its a good song. i get it, now, rather enjoyed it. I see your intent. cheers and rock on
12/20/2016 9:12:18 AM
Not at all, Bryonski.
Not picky, nor analytical,
you spoke as a person who'd like to record with me,
and I'm totally cool with that idea. Any time! You Rock!
And you're very educated about music, and about the music business.
I'm game for that any time, really.
It may have been, that it was unexpected,
and you wondered 'what was Lesley thinking',
so I went ahead and said,
"Well, I was thinking this..."
and now it kind of makes sense, 'cause you go,
"Oh, well, yeah, it definitely IS that."
12/20/2016 9:34:42 AM
Yeah, Neil Young is a very inspirational artist. Always loved listening to Neil. Not many on his level.
12/20/2016 10:39:46 AM
Larree. You're as good as he is, and I wonder if you even know it.
Matter of fact, I'm gonna say, you're his better.
He was great, he had his run,
he could go more, but he doesn't seem to wanna.
I realize, you may feel tired and sick to death of it by now,
I deal with that feeling myself, more than I say sometimes...
You also, Fuckin' ROCK.
That's not sucking up.
Sucking up is done arguably when there's something to gain.
What the hell have I to gain from telling you that?
I simply call it like I see it.
You are a Flame Thrower of Creative Energy.
Scott once spoke with me, I with him,
about a theoretical band,
in which he'd be in it and I'd be in it,
and he mentioned you,
and this was before I knew how good you are,
I see now, he was correct.
You are a force to be reckoned with.
And maybe you got tired, maybe you forgot,
but you're part of The Indie Invasion, Larree.
I'm telling you. You are.
I am happy to be around and be part of it. It's ON.
The Indie Invasion is ON.
12/20/2016 10:49:10 AM
Shame I couldn't get a single person to bite on this video, you'd know what I was talking about when you got to the 2nd song.
As for Neil Young, of CSNY and Crazy Horse, Lesley, you're pretty clueless.
First, he's still making great music. Had one of his best political moments in the 00s with Living With War record. My alltime greatest concert moment, he and CSN doing the song Let's Impeach the President about George W. They put the words up on the screen and had 20,000 people singing along, and a few people walking out, it was unreal. Had a great double record called Psychedelic Pill in 2014-2015. Harvest was very early in his career and while it was his biggest seller he's had at least 10 records that were better since. Lastly, his music files known as PONO were superior to mp3s, and got the entire music business focused on better quality files, no shabby accomplishment.
12/20/2016 11:24:14 AM
Okay, Scott... you can insult me too.
There there, Sweetie. Feel better now?
It comes down to taste. You think Neil Young's all that.
I think maybe he was, but he ain't like he used to.
Sure, anyone could have picked on George and what,
I'm supposed to give him a medal?
Where was he during this past election?
He wouldn't even take the shit on.
You have your opinions, and I got mine, Brother Dear.
Yeah that's to you, Scott.
I got lots of brothers. And I am Loving Sister to all. x
12/20/2016 11:32:32 AM
Scott, here's a suggestion....
you wanna interest people in taking the time to sift through this video?
Talk about, the actual thing, that happens in it,
describe it, if you do that well enough, yeah some people may
wanna see what it is. If not, well, speaking for myself, I am a busy little bee.
And sure, bee can be short for bitch, that's not news to me, Skipper.
What about 'the second song', is the big whoop?
You could say that.
Just a suggestion.
12/20/2016 11:38:02 AM
ALJ. I don't get into ego-tripping about music. I dig what I dig.
12/20/2016 11:41:08 AM
Larree, what even do you mean by that, Hon?
I am not ego tripping. Did you suppose I was?
I too, dig what I dig.
And I tease, as a defense mechanism, when I feel in any way insulted...
it's no biggie. Really, and why make it one.
12/20/2016 11:46:52 AM
Well, I appreciate that you think I am better than Neil, but I could never say that I am better than Neil. He is a major inspiration. That's all.
12/20/2016 11:50:27 AM
Okay, now at least I see what you meant, thanks for explaining.
Now, for what it is worth,
here is what Big Sister has to say,
about you, Larree.
You don't even know how good you are.
Sure, you can argue it's humble, and I imagine it is.
And Larr, I'm not even saying 'say, you are better than Neil Harvest'
(I'm just gonna call him that, since Neil W Young fuckin' Rocks,
and that's all there is to it. One is the past, one is the future, is how I see it)
I am saying, Larree,
I SEE, That You Are Better Than Harvest,
and you do not see that, clearly you don't.
But I DO.
Why you don't pursue your greatness,
Larr that is between you, and God.
Our Talent, is God's gift to us.
What we DO with it,
is our gift to God.
Peace, Love, & Sticky Icky Ooey Gooey Weedie Buds.

I am a Neil Young fan and am interested in this video, I think he might be one of the greatest stage performers of all time he just has a natural presence and invites the audience in an intimate way that I never saw anyone else do.
My life is a hellish whirlwind that I would not wish to impart upon the devil himself and right now I just don't have hardly 10 minutes to piss it does not mean I"m not interested its just the candle burns for me at each end and in the middle and right now I just can't watch it right now but I hope to someday.

Lesley, actually Neil spoke of Trump a lot, even got press for saying Fuck Trump at one of his concerts.

Thank you again ALJ for your kind words of support and about my song, “Hot Rod Star”- all very much appreciated.
By the way, I’m cool whether it’s Neil W or Neil w – it gets spelled both ways – upper case ‘W’ and lower case ‘w’ by different folks.
After retiring in 2002 from a 35-year entrepreneurial business career I discovered that I had time to do all the things that I had started to do and wanted to do since my high school days back in the late 1950’s such as taking my songs and music into a recording studio. The rest as they say is history.
When I debuted my first song professionally on MySpace in 2007 and followed it with my debut CD album “No Looking Back”, I elected to spell my name ‘Neil w Young' with my middle initial ‘w’ in the lower case with no period following it. It was done for the purpose of creating a ‘branding’ country style for my name as well as wanting to stand apart in the world of music from my accomplished countryman three years my junior and who shares the same first and last name with me - and who I greatly respect.
Oh, and out of my respect for Neil, at my gigs I would never cover any of his songs. Never!
Re the comments mentioned on this blog about music from “those were the days”, I’m putting my own stamp on music from those days with my new CD album titled, “Those Were The Days” by Neil w Young & The Hot Rod Stars, only days away now from being released. I’m not going back to the Fifties – I never left!
Thank you too ALJ for trying to keep the focus on “indies” ... ‘That’s who we are – That’s what we do’.
Play hard and rock on!!
Merry Christmas to all, and to all Indie Music!!

Thank you Neil W, for telling me some background about you.
So holy moly, you're fairly new at this even? Whoa. Cool. Keep Goin'!
And see, this brings me right into the point,
that I guess I ain't made yet.
Like, okay, and duly noted, Scott.
Neil Young said "Fuck Trump" at a concert.
I ain't gonna split hairs about how many songs does he
have on the subject, since I've retracted mine since you know who
won the you know what.
Well, I'm American Lesley Jane,
and I serve at the pleasure of the United States of America.
Which began with removing all songs I'd put out
to campaign against the guy.
So, I ain't gonna make it about chutzpah,
we all got some, we do what we can.
I will say, I think Neil W Young is, 1, a plain nicer guy,
and, 2, not a fuckin' snob.
Yeah. That is the word for it.
Call it my opinion,
I think the guy known in the business as Neil Young,
I don't care what he's like on stage,
I've known a few celebrities, they are quite some head cases,
I think Neil Young, the guy whom may still be as great
as you give him props for being, is, still a snob.
That's my opinion.
I'm as free to think that as anyone is to think I'm an obnoxious bitch.
Mostly I'm an obnoxious bitch, because I dare to stand up for myself,
and return fire when necessary, and accurately,
and oh well, that's me, and I will be me....
Look, why the hell should you care, even,
if I don't like Neil Young, on a personal level all that much?
I think he's a goddamn snob, and to hell with him.
That is my prerogative. Now, the video you have here,
may be great. I am not likely to view it any time soon.
Even if it is Live from Ireland, where most of my heritage blood is from.
I just don't like the guy.
You know, the way some people, just don't seem to like me, no matter what.
Life Goes On.
And in his own unplanned way,
Mr Neil W Young, made the point, quite well.
We Are Indies.
And OUR Neil Young, ain't a goddamned snob.
This one, will talk to me.
That one, won't.
So what's that make me feel?
You guessed it.
THAT one can go fuck himself.
That's how I feel about it.
Who knows, maybe one day,
we'll all be friends...
guy could've made a record for me.
Not an easy thing to contemplate,
and I know I'm a pain in the ass to work with,
'cause I'm a mad musical scientist,
but you did it,
you made several records with me, Scott.
So you, got twice as much balls as Neil Young.
I like OUR Neil Young, way better.
Guy stepped in like a Gentleman,
talked a bit about himself,
filled in some of the 'how he got here'.
In person. Speaking personable and as, a Peer, An Indie.
We're Indies. We're Just Plain Better Than Mainstream.
Mainstream, ain't in a hurry to embrace us,
so, really, they're ALL fuckin' snobs in My Book.
But that's okay.
We're Coming. Oh Are We Coming.
And for those of you who love the "mainstream" Neil Young,
well Judos Kudos.. I'm happy for you.
You're free to love the crap out of him.
Just as I am free to think he's a goddamned snob.
We clear on all that?
It comes down to opinion.
Mainstream thinks it is better.
Indies, Know, We're So Much Better
We're About To Take It OVER.
We, are coming.
That's the fact, Jack.
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year,
To All Indies
Wecome To Our True Home,
A home to me, even though I have to routinely
put the red cape on and sort things out.
Yeah, I had a talk with my lil' sister there....
I make it look fun, I know. heh.
Fun Fun Fun!
Scott, I want also to mention,
it was in the spirit of 'conversation started' that I came into this thread,
and I hadn't intended to go all in to the point I have now,
coming out, about I think Harvest is a freakin' snob. But I do.
And I think Our Neil W Young, is just plain, nicer, and better.
And that is my opinion, which I have every right to.
I'll tell you what though,
at a certain point, if you're an artist,
you gotta stop worshiping those whom fed you as you grew,
and begin to make you, the thing you're meant to be.
Anyway, this is the best I can do in the way of apology,
for coming into a thread, which you launched,
simply because you like the guy,
and found him to be an inspiration,
and talking about how I find him, to be a liar, a pompous ass,
and, ultimately a phoney-ass snob.
That is my experience.
Highlighted all the more,
by the sure steady human confidence,
of our own Neil W Young.
God Bless You Neil W Young.
Thank you, for being You.
We're What Matters Now, Scott.
You too, and John gave you a damned good pep talk, I thought.
Not sure if you appreciated it, but he tried to remind you,
you are one of us. As you. Not even having to 'go to'
the hundred heads on leashes thing.
I'm glad you are inspired, may you continue to be.
May The New Year,
Be The Best Indie Year Yet.
12/21/2016 1:54:54 PM
So you don't like me discussing the Neil Young who plays with Crazy Horse on this site while you mention the Beatles on every other post and even include "beatle" in one of your artist names?
First you post false info about Neil's current music, now you're saying he's a snob. What other household name artist provides a space on his website for indie music? This guy is one of the greatest artists who ever lived, it offends me personally the kind of hatchet job you're dishing out to him here.
12/21/2016 3:15:50 PM
NEIL YOUNG is Canada's pride and joy, tremendous accomplishments indeed plus there are many other fab Canucks who produce great music and are terrific entertainers and song writers
ps I will have to start a new artist page with music that fits this place someday

Just a quick post maybe close to the tail end of Father Time / Scott's blog here regarding my accomplished countryman, to express my thanks again to ALJ for the additional generous remarks regarding yours truly.
I also wanted to acknowledge that, yes, while becoming an indie recording artist, is “fairly new” to me having released my first song from my debut CD album “No Looking Back” on MySpace and on IAC in 2007, I have been writing songs and playing guitar in garage and no-name bands since the age of 17 way back in 1959.
I guess then, that might make me an "old" but "well-travelled" newcomer to the scene so to speak, but not "new" to the world of music.
I realize all of that adds little value to the subject of Scott’s blog, but still with all due respect to and for my accomplished countryman three years my junior who shares the same first and last name with me.
