The Jazz Kitchen is a recording studio in Burlington, Canada operated by Buster and Babbles. We aim for the highest technical standard but we insist on keeping the fire and passion of the music. With our clients, we cook up some tasty offerings in the Kitchen. Some of the more recent menu items are posted here. (all songs used with permission of the composers involved.) We hope you enjoy some of these samples. Rob Laurie is a singer-songwriter who has completed a five song demo in the Jazz Kitchen to be pitched to A&R guys in Nashville and elsewhere. Definitely country but definitely for today. Eclectislav recorded a demo in the Jazz Kitchen and the track "Out on the Dance Floor" is a great example of the humour and groove produced by this group of musicians. Jill Weber's recording of her song "She's Leaning" has a deep groove with spiritual overtones. Loose Change is a new band we are working with and the song "Rollercoaster" is a fun, finger-poppin' track from their new demo. "Summertime" is a redo of an old classic...nice sultry groove. Two projects below (Jacqueline Pearson and Martha Krueger) were nominated for 2009 Hamilton Music Awards. Both CD's were recorded, mixed and mastered in the Jazz Kitchen during 2009. The Nocturne by Chopin is included to demonstrate the quality of the upright grand in our studio. It features a beautiful performance by Rebekah Cummings. Mercy Beat is an alt rock band that just finished their initial demo in the Jazz Kitchen...four great songs from the CD are posted here...play them LOUD! They kick butt. Trish y Chus are a cool jazzy duo from Mexico who recorded a demo in the Jazz Kitchen and are now in high demand for gigs in their home country. Check out the chilled vibe of "I'm Done". "Ask" by Jacqueline Pearson is a cut from a 2-CD project. The lead vocal and basic keyboard tracks were recorded live and all backing tracks added later in the Jazz Kitchen. Very nice cool, jazzy vibe. Greg Penny is a Christian artist working on a possible CD project on the Jazz Kitchen. The project has a long way to go but we couldn't resist posting one of the first songs, "Forevermore". This has to be one of the most beautiful songs recorded in our studio and we wanted to share it with others. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Martha Krueger completed her second CD at the Jazz Kitchen. This is a kids album but the fun songs will appeal to adults as well. Check 'em out. RyhH is a new client who recorded the original tracks for his song "Except for Sunday" in Vancouver and then brought them to the Jazz Kitchen for mixing and mastering. This chilled song, definitely in the alt genre, features haunting guitar lines overlain by intriguing vocals. Very cool music! Peter A. Lacey is one of the latest Jazz Kitchen clients to post a couple of his songs on this site. Check out "the Mirror", a clubby, sultry eclectic elixir of goth-jazz and pop. Then, for contrast, play "When You Whisper"...a love song thru and thru. More songs are in the works. Myron Boyd Hiebert recently recorded a demo of his song "In This Life" at the Jazz Kitchen. Inspiring lyrics are matched with a lush arrangement of this composition reminiscent of some of the best from the Eagles. Thaddeus Morden completed a recording of Bach's Suite in D Major for Solo Cello. The second movement, the Allemande, is featured here. This heartfelt performance indicates why Thaddeus is one of Canada's most promising young cellists. Lori de Groot completed her debut CD, "Warrior Bride" in the Jazz Kitchen which was released last summer. Check out the two beautiful songs posted here as samples from the initial recording of this promising new singer/songwriter. These cuts will take your breath away. Brydan Smith is a twenty-something songwriter who has completed a demo in the Jazz Kitchen. His poetic, acoustic rock is very 'today' but with shades of Dylan, Leonard Cohen and others. Discover this talented young singer and writer by sampling/downloading his music. Michel Leon is a singer/songwriter currently recording his fourth CD with us. His debut CD, "Coming Together" was recorded in the Jazz Kitchen and released in the spring of 2006. The album has been very well received and one of the songs is posted here ("Dreams".) Michel released his second CD, "A Friend To Me" and two of the cuts (the title track and "How 'Bout") are listed here. "Was it You" and "Love of Life" are songs from Michel's third CD, "Miracle of Life" released in mid 2008. Not one to rest on his laurels, Michel has started his fourth project in the Jazz Kitchen, scheduled for release next year. Rebekah Cummings' CD "All My Dreams" is an eclectic mix of warm, inspiring personal songs that will appeal to the spiritual side of the listener. Check out Rebekah's beautiful voice and music. Peter Tigchelaar writes and performs with passion and inspiration. The song posted here is an excellent example of this passion with Peter's voice complemented by an unusual combination of strings and woodwinds plus more conventional pop instrumentation.
