No doubt Todd. I have mentioned IACmusic and also the Block Scholars link on Uplaya.com's site (will be up for public viewing soon) is here at IAC of course. Hopefully after this interview airs, even more people will come and check out the great artists on this site. Trying to make us all famous...haha
P.S. Still have your lyrics. May do a spoken word piece...

Thanks Hugh!!! We'll see what Happens. I just think overall, there is a TON of unheard, talented individuals here and with the Blessings I have received, I should return it back to IAC. They found us first, back in 2004. I feel that people, like you and countless others should be heard on radio now. It's OUR TIME NOW!!! I believe anyone that believes in their craft should give Uplaya a try. You can upload 2 songs for free. What's gets their attention for distribution by The Orchard is that you have a few award winning songs. It's $90 to get 15 uploads and a six month membership. What I did was I spent some dinero (not sayin, but you may hear how many songs uploaded in the interview) uploading songs we thought may have potential to win awards and we were grateful to get a few. That caught the attention of the A&R and the CEO. They are honestly trying to get unsigned artists heard, to level the playing field in commercial radio and the music industry. They know that there are great unsigned bands that the "big wigs" won't take a chance on. This is their way to get us out there. NPR is and was the proof for me...They are still looking for artists that believe in what they are doing by investing in them. I am hoping some IAC artists here will take that chance as well...

That's good Slimdog!!! We're pleased for you. And thanks for reporting back here on it all...
This IAC Artist took the plunge, one of our uploaded songs got a platinum thingy, the other got a 6.1 score - probably too long at 7+minutes to be a "hit single" :)

All good wishes to you!

It's free and it doesn't hurt(maybe some egos, but that's it). Once again, thanks buddy for "cheerleading" for me. My "playa" days were over awhile ago too homie...haha

Thanks Steve!!! You have always supported us. I am hoping I am not flying when the show airs. Uplaya said that they will have a link put up on their site and hopefully on their Music Intelligence Solutions site if anyone misses it. I did about a 30 minute interview with Laura Sydell and the CEO, David Meredith, did a interview a couple of days before. I was nervous as hell because this is a controversial technology and NPR is known to ask some tough questions. I spoke from the heart about my experiences with uplaya and I know I did my best. It was fun though and Laura was nice. It was funny because she asked our ages and I told her that NOBULL was 28 and I am 45. You could hear her pause and then she said, "That's an odd paring". I then explained to her why it wasn't. Hopefully NPR left that in the interview.

You are too funny Ash!!! Stop it. There will be no limo driver. I am excited about the opportunity to work with The Orchard. Wynton Marsallis just signed a distribution deal with them. The Orchard picked up Latin Hip Hop Artist, Pitbull from a bankrupt label and he went on to sell some 700,000 digital downloads. Just got a Billboard award. The Orchard is no joke y'all. They figure out the best way to promote your music. This all has been a gift from God for some dudes that just start putting out music in 2004. There is honestly no other indie site that shows so much support. I can't begin to tell you how I feel about everyone here. I just wish more listeners and artists just come on the pipeline and say hi. Wish more listeners (other than artists) would come by all of our pages and just say hi. Hopefully this will happen soon.

Congrats, Slim
It's been an inspiration watching your evolution ever since you got to IAC. You've shown that with enough talent and dedication indie artists can make it in this business. Your success with Cashbox was really a revelation as to what is possible
and right under noses! Your pushing of the envelope in your sound has made me try harder to takes risks too. Thank you for being a star who is also a gentleman AND a scholar. (true to your group name)

Thanks Rob, Vicenzo, Duane, Auset & Richard...I think you all should put your 2 best songs through. I know that many artists here will get awards through uplaya. All of your works are great as well. Uplaya has contests as well too. The one with American Songwriter is done. There is one where you can have a professional video done by a top production company, another where you can remix one of Mr. Lamm's songs (founder of the band Chicago). The winning remix in his contest has their song placed on his remix album by his label. Like I said, the majors have been secretly using this technology. Since uplaya started in June of 2009, artists from 145+ countries have uploaded songs on the site and 80 labels are subscribed to uplaya's label analyzing and promo site. I know I sound like a salesman for them, but I have done my work on researching them. Thanks Richard by the way for that nice compliment. I still have a ways to go. Still learning and taking this art all in. The CEO said that they are gonna have me do other interviews with interested media in the near future. I will mention IACmusic & the artists here each chance I get.

Very cool!!!! Congrats!!!!
Thanks for the heads up, I submitted two songs to UPLAYA One came back as a Platinum hit on their song analysis, the other was more of an album track so it did not score so well. It seems their program scans for hit potential... Very cool. I will add more info on this later on my own blog. this is your blog I just wanted to let you know I tried your recommendation.
I am happy for you Slim, That is awesome news, I listen to NPR all the time, you have reasons to be proud!

It's weird.
I submitted 2 songs, too.
Both of them were, I thought singles.
One of them got a "Platinum" rating. (The first single from the upcoming record.)
The other one was "Ashes on the Water", which DID get all the radio airplay and was the song that we were requested to sing on our WGN TV appearance. But that one got a "Keep Trying".
And that one was the closest thing that we had to a "hit".
So, either that first record really sucked, or there is something missing from the algorhythm. And, it goes to show that there really is no such thing as objectivity. (Getting back to that other thread.)

Thanks Jeff & Todd,
They don't claim to be an exact science, just a tool to help artists to figure what songs may have the potential. In their Harvard Review one of the ten songs, by an R&B artist named Monica, got a "keep trying" score. That song went on to Top 40 status on Billboard. They [uplaya] claim a 80% success rate with their analyzing songs. There are songs we had that we thought were good, but got a low score and we still plan to use them in the future anyway. Don't lose your "gut instincts" when using this program. They are to be used as a "guide", not a "tell all be all" for your work. 1. You have to have a song that "sounds" like a hit. Can't be just a bunch of "sounds" slapped together (even though some may call that music) 2. Promotion: Monica is with a major label. That helped her song reach the Top 40. 3. The band itself has to be interesting also to where people will take the chance to listen. We even took songs, remastered them and one, for example, went from a Silver Award to a Platinum. When I get the cash, I am gonna try remastering some "keep trying" songs to see what they get after mastering. Sometimes it is simple as the recording that makes the difference, not the music.

Ya, we posted 2 songs u yesterday. "Your Day Will Come" scored a 6.0 which kinda surprised us since it was one of our biggest hits not only here but in our home state as well. "No More" ft. Waupi got a silver award and that was never mastered, just taken as it was and loaded. It kinda sucks that we may never know how well we could be, seeing how the group is falling apart as we speak. There are a lot of internal things that need to be worked out 'til "we" can get our stuff back on point, if ever.
I plan on loading up some of my solo projects as they are completed to see what they get. I have always worked with other artists as I am the one who usually handles all the music and writes a good majority of the lyrics, along with MoneyBagz (who at the moment is #1 on the hip hop charts), so this will be interesting to see how well I do. I will say that as of right now, being #3 in the hip hop contest here makes me feel proud of myself and that maybe this break up is for the best. As always, much luv to all y'all and know that myself and 164 Productions will be here for a long time.
ps. SlimDog, thank you for the heads up on the uplaya thing. I, along with 164, appreciate it a lot!!

Thanks FLOW & The 164 Crew. I hope you all get your differences settled. Sometimes you have to cut others to progress. You're welcome about the uplaya site. It seems that IAC doesn't want any of this on their blogs on the front page. Let me know if you get any more awards. Like I told Hop On Pop, because you didn't get a good score on that song, doesn't mean you shouln't put it on your album or promote it. Uplaya is just a guide. You are the ultimate chooser of what you promo. We are promoting songs on our uplaya widget that didn't get good scores.
