Upcoming Gigs
I'll be backing up Joe Jack Talcum, at his CD Release Party (I co-produced and recorded), We'll be playing an acoustic duet set mostly of his originals with a cover or two. One out of state IAC'er has already booked his hotel room - it's a little coffee house gig, so it ain't like we could host the whole lot but if you'd like to hang with Hugo and you're anywhere near Philly this is a good chance:

Saturday, February 7 @ Green Line Cafe, 45th and Locust St, Philadelphia PA * 7 PM * All Ages * with Ukebox and Mischief Brew (show must be concluded by 9:30 PM)

Joe has also invited me to go on stage with him a couple of weeks later at a "live recording" studio performance with an audience of 30 or so folks in Lancaster, PA. It'll be an invitation only situation. We're working up a set with Joe on acoustic guitar and harmonica, and me on dobro, banjo, bongos and THE PEAR shaker from Hugo's Hits. The performance will be recorded and is expected to get a 1 or 2 camera video treatment as well. Not sure about the end result but should be fun; at the least perhaps you'll be able to see Hugo Sideman on youtube...

Thanks for the warm wishes!

The gig was a success - coffeehouse filled to capacity, plate glass windows covered with the dripping wet perspiration and exhalations of a significant percentage of the Philly Punk community...Joe Jack in his usual fine fettle and Hugo struggling valiantly to hold onto and play his instruments despite lack of straps and presence of excessively sweaty hands...we played a range of songs including some recent ones from the new album (Photograph, Alcohol), some of Joe's writing efforts from his Dead Milkmen days (Dean's Dream, Methodist Coloring Book) and Butterfly Joe days (Fancy Walls - in my opinion our strongest tune together) and even covers from Dylan (Blowing In the Wind) and the Beatles (Nowhere Man, banjo-style. Don't try this at home.) Joe's erstwhile bandmate Dean Clean even rounded us out as a trio, providing a bit of bongo and gourd action on a couple of tunes (Yesterday I Was Talking To My Sister and Jellyfish Heaven). Saw some old friends and made a couple of new ones. Avoiding getting tattoed or pierced and managed not to wake up across the state line.

Note to non-gigging recordists - my palm was crossed with more silver than the previous three years of attempted download sales combined (lol).

Note to dobro-playing folk punkers a.k.a. Lesson Learned The Hard Way - don't point your dobro's speaker cone toward the monitor...ouch...

We enjoyed the benefit of an extended visit from an out-of-town IAC'er who I shall permit to remain unknown in the event he'd rather not admit it...lol...including a living room jam session at the House of Hugo. However, photographic evidence is available if a complete denial arises...

Rock on!

Hugo.....be very careful what you wish for.......floated the idea at Rivergods rehearsal tonight and got some VERY positive response re: getting you and Joe Jack up here to New London. BTW, you guys rocked the Green Line feedback and all (that's why we call it LIVE music.........warts and all!!!!)!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, Kat and I.....much love to a great fam.
Yes, I admit freely, I enjoyed the RARE opportunity to jam with my IAC bro, Hugh Hamilton. Here's hoping time allows more, my friend!

Thanks, Mike! It was great fun going from the virtual world to the real world with you - and I think hot & humid coffeehouse gigs are about as real as it gets (lol). The pleasure was ours, we'll see about a roadtrip to your neck of the woods, it would surely be fun.

I started digging into the CDs you left for me - thanks for that! I'm not remembering if you have a Hoolios page here...I suppose I'm off to check. If not...why not?

Rock!

Meant to reply to the other fellers who posted before MIke with a "THANKS!" but forgot to in the excitement of his admission of being there (lol)...so THANKS!

Hi, Steve - I've been told the recording gig on the 21st may have one or two video cameras. If it is actually shot I figure it would have a period of editing before being made available...I would assume at least some of it would make it to youtube and I'll certainly announce if and when it's available...

:)

By the way Hugh -- of course I'm JEALOUS of your gigging success -- but keep it ROLLIN' man!

Uh...one question. This 2010 gig, with IAC Artists, looks like it's gonna be for reals.

Been speaking with Tommy Saddler and E-nox by phone a lot. And that Cat Eyes dood is still workin' MANY angles for getting the logistics worked out.

ONE THING that YOU could really help with, if you're still planning on being a HEADLINER, is bringing along a few of The Dead Milkmen with you -- or their WHOLE crew....

A "mainstream" underground indie act like that would REALLY help with the connections, and other aspects of promotion, etc.

Please consider it.

It's over 1 year away --- targeted for SUMMER 2010.

-thanks in advance for your consideration on this KILLER gig that would help you, me & MANY other IAC Artists, IAC itself, as well as INDIE music in general.

Phlegm, my friend! I have NEVER planned on being a headliner at that gig, or any other! I did express gratitude at being invited and said I'd keep an ear to the ground. Consider me grounded. If you heard otherwise, it ain't so, Amigo.

And you have nothing to be jealous of when it comes to any Hugo gigging!!

Great Pic of you-n-Mike ... someday I'm gonna roam back out to the east coast and I'd sure love to hook up with you fellers ...

Wish I'd have known about all this talent around here that lives out that way a few years back ... I traveled Pennsylvania and New Jersey Turn pikes many many times ... Pennsylvania is one of the prettiest States in our union ... and Connecticut is pretty nice itself ...

Hugh-- It's all good.

I'm just sayin' if it DOES go off as planned, and things come together, would you be willing to play the festival with the boyz from The Dead Milkmen? If not that, than IF we can prove it's REAL.... could you play the festival solo?

It's a wayz off -- so you'll have time to see if the 2010 Summer Indie Artists from IAC Festival -- takes off & becomes FULLY viable.

Please consider it. Most likely a 3-5 day event. With lodging provided & such.
