Damn! SOunds like a GREAT GIG -- for a GREAT cause!
Just got done playing LIVE original music with two bands. It was my MAIN project, CONVERSATION SUICIDE, AND my current side project, DoDge N Bullets. It was a bad-ass little Bloody Valentine's Day Friday the 13th ARTFEST show. The gig was at the Underground HAUS party scene. We had an AMAZING sound person, who came with the Headliner- Psychotic Nerve.
Boy, having a good sound person, makes ALL the fuckin' difference in the world for LIVE Music.
ROCK on Hugh! Kill 'em tonight. -pHLeGm

Thanks, Colin & Rob...sounds fun, Rob - I've tried the play guitar, sing, and do kick/hi-hat thang and it has never...umm...blossomed...lol.
Had a real fun gig last night. Here's the setlist:
I had played my xmas dobro a week before and it had to be miked up (no pickup on it) and I suffered feedback, so I decided to try my Martin DC-Aura (has a nice Fishman pickup on it). It sounded GREAT at soundcheck but of course I got MORE FEEDBACK (@#$@#%) once the gig started...but it all worked out. Only real notable error - I misread the setlist and on one occasion Joe and I started in on two different songs...oops...sorry! It was fun "headlining" - the set started at 11;30 and the room was pleasantly full. We had enjoyed a delicious dinner at the downstairs restaurant in the venue and enjoyed the opening acts (I would have enjoyed laying down some lead axe for either one). Dean Clean joined us for bongos/guiro on three tunes, to the audience's pleasure...and I got an unexpectedly nice round of applause when departing the stage after our 45 minute set, as well as some nice comments from folks other than my immediate family (lol, always take the "friend & family" comments with a grain of salt)...Joe then did a mini-set of solo tunes and the audience was enthusiastically singing along to such classic Dead Milkmen tunes as "Watching Scotty Die" and "Life is Shit" (you've got to see it to believe it), Upon hearing the applause and foot-stomping (it wasn't me! It really wasn't!) Joe came back out for a few more solo tunes. It all worked out great, and hopefully the charity sponsor pulled in enough dollars to launch their internet domain and increase the web presence.
Next Saturday evening we venture to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for the recording/video live performance, and we're looking forward to it - and keeping our fingers crossed that we'll wind up with something "releasable".
Thanks for reading and saying hi!
H
P.S. Here we are at the Green Line Cafe a week ago - Joe launched into Dean's Dream just as I was halfway to having the dobro in place, hence my awkward wrist angle - I know better than to miss the first beat of the first song (lol). Photo by Dean Clean:

Greetings and Salutations, DA, Mr. April, Lacey, Phlegm...just got some gig pics in, shot by the talented Nina Sabatino [(c) 2009 and All Rights Reserved, Used By Permission, etc.] and here we go!
1. Hugo and Joe - This was what most of the set was like - Hugo on slide with a D open tuning, Joe strumming, singing, and breaking into...umm...mouth organ:
2. Hugo added the occasional vocal harmony - in this case it was singing, "Jellyfish Heaven...is a LOT...like L.A.!" And that's the PEAR from Hugo's Hits making a cameo appearance in Hugo's right hand...though it's a bit hard to tell:
3. Nina climbed up to the balcony and got this shot of Neil You-...er, Hugo:
4. Dean Clean joined us for a few tunes on percussive elements - playing Guiro on "Jellyfish Heaven" and bongos on "Sex Sting" and "Yesterday I Was Talking To My Sister":
THANK YOU, NINA! Nina has lots of other great photos posted, including various bands live but most importantly the most recent Dead Milkmen rehearsals (as they prepare NEW TUNES and get ready for a few live dates in 2009).
Just had another look - HAIR STYLIST WANTED - INQUIRE WITHIN!

Todd, I totally forgot, I think maybe the Dead Milkmen have a Chicago show in the works. I'll be sure to keep you posted on that. Joe does solo tours (including an upcoming appearance at this year's SxSW) and I'm just a bit of eye candy for the local stuff at this point (lol)...but...gee, if you have anything concrete in mind pass it along and we'll see...and don't forget, we're recording the live duet set and I'm told it will be video'd as well...you can be sure I'll let you know if/when that becomes available...

I could only do concrete, if Joe would actually make this a part of his tour as my name alone holds no real weight.
I could book a show for him at a good local club if he'll commit to a date. But I'd be pretty sure that he has "guys" that already do that for him, no? If not, I do at least know the contact info for some good places.

GET YOURSELF A FREE DOWNLOAD OF "SEX STING"!
I just visited Joe's "SxSW Music Festival" artist page - he'll be playing a festival gig in Austin, TX on March 22, 2009 - and I noticed you can stream AND get a free download of his song SEX STING, which I co-produced/recorded and played bass on and which we just covered as an acoustic trio with Joe playing guitar and harmonica and singing, Dean Clean on guiro and me on shaker/tambo. It's a modern day romance of sorts - if you call being misled online and busted by the F.B.I. romantic...lol...
