....Right now at the time you open this topic.

I'm listening to Groove Armada "Soundboy Rock" album while I'm in the middle of writing but zip in and out of forums for a break - Hence giving the illusion that I'm here all the time! :-)

I like your time management skills. I'm listening to the DVD of Porcupine Tree's "Arriving Somewhere..." Live. I just got through listening to the DVD of Oingo Boingo's Farewell concert. Later, I'll be checking out a Tangerine Dream concert (the 30th anniversary gig of Phaedra, I think).

I'm actually practicing riffs for a new tune in between blogs. I type with two fingers, and so far those are the only two on my hands that are awake right now. I need more coffee..............

Now THAT sounds cool! Which concert was that? Was it specifically called the 30th anniversary gig of Phaedra or was that just the timing of it?
I'm guessing the lineup was Edgar, Jerome and Linda Spa (on sax) as on the 'Three Phase' (AKA 220 volt live) tour.

I'm not sure what it was 'officially' called. I got a blank-faced DVD-RW from one of the Shaved Fish guys (he got it from DRyle of Kindred Lost- another IAC-er you might like to check out). I haven't watched it yet, but it DOES have the 'new' lineup. I'm looking forward to it.

Ah, the true essence of a real TD fan!! Getting hold of ANYTHING we can of the mighty Germans. I don't think you can truly call yourself a TD fan unless you have at least one obscure album, cassette, DVD, VHS, Mpeg1 (crusty of course!), vinyl, CD, 1/4" or whatever other format you can find... lol :-D

A little trivia for you. I was adopted when I was seven weeks old and met my birth Dad when I was in my twenties. When we first met, we immediately started talking about music. He is a guitarist and was the original lead guitarist for Daddy Cool (Ross Wilson) before they became famous.
Anyway, I asked him if he'd heard of Tangerine Dream and he said he did indeed know of them. He was in a band that played support for them in 1975 on the Melbourne part of their 'Ricochet' tour!! Ricochet is one of my favourite TD albums and here was my own Dad playing support for them on that very tour!!!!

That's so cool. I actually got to see them once- they don't make it around to NTexas very often. It was in 1994, at the pavillion at Fair Park in Dallas. About midway through, during one of the tunes from Exit, it started to mist just a little. It sent shivers down the spine.

Absolutely agree about Melrose and their other albums Steve.
'Cyclone', which was bagged by the critics, is also one of my faves. I actually really like the vocals and the acoustic drums. In fact, the vocoder part at the start of the first track, 'Bent Cold Sidewalk', was the inspiration for the vocoder in my new song 'Outburst'.
....and the last track, 'Madrigal Meridian' is an absolute gem! Classic TD!

I have still yet to see them live in person but I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity. :-)

As much as you dig TD, I know you'll love it, when you get the chance. I don't know what their next tour specifics are, but I can't imagine them ignoring Oz. It's hip you mentioning your birth father opening for them. When I saw them, Andy Summers was the opener. He was completely solo, doing some loop material. Unfortunately he had equipment probs, and had to quit early. I think TD filled the time he was supposed to take, as well as their own. They can do improv on themes for long stretches and never get tiring.

Pity for Andy (I'm a bit of a Police fan too) but a bonus for TD fans :-)
Their live improv stuff, especially the mid to late 70's, was just awesome. That's why I love Ricochet and Pergamon so much.
If you know the album Pergamon, you'll recognise the sequencer part in my Becoming Real IV track (which is on my artist page here). That was written as a tribute to TD.

I THOUGHT I recognised the Pergamon melody on Becoming Real IV (both here, and on your IndieMusicClips.com page).
An update, I just started watching the TD. As soon as it started, I thought, "this is pretty good production for a bootleg". Actually, it's a copy of the "Shepherd's Bush Empire 11-06-05" DVD (*the 35th Phaedra anniversary). I have nothing against bootlegs, but I still have an aversion to copying material that's readily available (besides, a new DVD has better quality than a copy of a copy). Also, if I order it from the TD website, the proceeds go toward a "TD Award Foundation" which promotes deserving artists. I wouldn't want to deprive an up-and-comer (such as yourself, or Kindred Lost) the opportunity.

Inspired by her mention by others (Sam, FT) in another thread here on IAC, I'm now enjoying listening to Christina Aguilera's album "Stripped". I don't much like her singles, except "Fighter", but this album is great and showcases her voice at its best. I'm sat in the sweet spot and it's sufficiently loud. There are just too many tracks on this album that can't be simply dismissed as not the work of a great musician. Very strong melodies and tight rhythms, balanced production and a good structure as an album. "Loving Me 4 Me" - Gorgeous!

The previous album I played was John Lee Hooker's "Mr Lucky" featuring such artists as Albert Collins, Ry Cooder, John Hammond, Johnnie Johnson, Booker T Jones, Van Morrison, Keith Richards, Carlos Santana, and Johnny Winter.

Received two CDs in the mail today from a friend, a drummer who I used to play in a band with in the 60s and 70s

The first was "Flowers of Evil" by Mountain (1971):
"Oh can you tell me Oh how the joy
Passed from his childhood That's not my boy
He's re-enlisted for three years more
Is the price of peace worth the price of war?"
Funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The second CD was a bit scary. As I said this friend is an excellent drummer but he can strum a few chords on guitar and that's about it. Anyways he's got this program with thousands of riff samples that you can cut up, use snippets of, mix and match and then assign them to any of thousands of instrument samples. You can change the key of the samples, assign all sorts of realistic rhythm sections etc etc - and the whole thing sounds really good. But is it music?
