Hi Mike,
Sounds like my kind of book. An interesting guy to be sure.
Work with other people, and do something for other people, and you’ll do something for yourself.
Sounds like you!
Thanks,
Glenn

I'm unfamiliar with Ry's own work, but I really enjoy the Buena Vista Social Club CD, and we enjoyed the movie as well. Here's a link to a youtube video of "Candela" - have to provide a cut & paste link because embedding is disabled for some reason.
I'll follow your link, thanks...

No greater reward, Glenn, than a smile and a sparkle in the eye, man. Thank you for the kind regard, my friend.
According to the interview there were only two shows with the Buena Vista Social Club: Amsterdam
( "Candela" here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whs1FAkPbTM )
and New York (Carnegie Hall), and the Amsterdam show was just a warm up....to get their bearings. Yeah, right?...they're on fire!
Hugh, Cooder is highly regarded as a master of the slide guitar, but check out his work in the soundtrack for the movie "Paris, Texas" as well as "Mambo Sinuendo" and his collab with Ali Farka Toure, one of my favorites.
Meantime....just to whet yer appetite..........
