Hi Beth, Thanks for asking. I am OK, but my wife had a medium stroke in November. She is slowly recovering, but she has little use of her L arm and hand at the moment. We take it one day at the time...

Thanks Beth, but the cyclone was a long way from Sydney, however, the way things are going at the moment, who knows what calamity is waiting around the corner....the end of the world perhaps......I hope not....I am nowhere near ready!! I have too many more songs to write and I am not good at the guitar yet.....that should give the world at least another 100 years before the end.....

Hi Beth, How are you? Thanks for your concern, but we are on top of the termite problem for the moment and I have put my studio back together again and I recorded a new song called 'Broken' three days ago. The guitar is coming along slowly...as expected, but I can almost play a few songs in full so I am happy with that although I so slow down a bit at some of the chord changes.
Anyway, I came to IAC to write a few Christmas messages, so here it is:
Have a wonderful Christmas and a Fantastic 2011 Beth!!

Hi Beth,
Good to hear from you. Yes I am in Sydney. The guitar is coming along although slowly. I was planning to do my first guitar video with my song 'Quando dico ti amo' Unfortunately, we have discovered active termites, right under my desk and where my home studio is, so I had to pull everything apart and it is going to take months to get back to normal, so, things are a bit disrupted at present. At least they did not eat my guitar!!
Ciao for now,
Vincenzo

Hi Beth,
Thank you for your concern about my family and L'Aquila I do appreciate it. This is one of those situations where one feels completely hopeless....
As far as the guitar, I used to play everyday while I was in Texas, since I have come home from Antarctica, I got so frustrated with this guitar as it does not tune properly, that I decided not to play it. So I am asking my family for a new guitar for my birthday in June!!
Ciao for now,

Hi Beth - I spent about 8 yrs in the Boston area and managed a Cambridge nightclub called Jacks for its last year or so. When I moved to Boston after college (to start a band and wait tables) the first night out on the town was at the Plough. I don't know Barnicle Bill or Reverb Joe but couldn't resist letting Bill know I dug his song and know of the Plough. I also have a case of Guinness on hand (lol, too true). I'm back in my hometown of Philly now...rock on and best wishes for a fab '09 to you!

Hello Beth,
Sorry I never answered your query about my artist pic way back in september or so,
ne way I had mentioned to the site admin about a couple of issues I was having in relation to the policies of the site, and the response was one of "we've had complaints about you, there have been complaints about your artist pic, your out of order",
So I took it down and replaced it with the simple message, "Artist Pic Removed Due To Complaints Recieved".
I mean if my pics upset peeps, think what my tunes will do!

Hi Beth,
It has been really hectic here since we got back...lots and lots to do which is normal when you have been away for a while. I will try go go around and say hi to all my IAC friends as I can. The ship carried about 2000 passenger and about 1000 crew, which is not huge by today standard. The Sun Princess is 77,000 tons which is pretty big when you think that the Titanic was about 46,000 tons and the old Queen Mary 80,000 tons, but they are now building 200,000 ton vessels!!!
When the ship is in port you can get off generally by 08:00 and have to be back by 17:30 pm and other times much later. It is not a lot of time but is certainly enough to get a good idea of the places you visit. We took a tour in China and were able to see the Forbidden city and some of the Great wall.
Every time I practice the guitar I can hear all your advice in my head, and that of the other IAC friends who have been trying to help. It will take time, but I will get there!!
Ciao for now, and look after that voice!!

Hiya! well - I do a sort of composite version of all those guitar parts if we do that one live. Just learn an awful lot of 6th and 9th chord fingerings. 6th chords with close harmony are good, but the stretches in the fingerings can be a bit painful! Good sources of inspiration would be:
Bob Wills (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Wills)
or a more contempory band like Asleep At The Wheel.
If you need any help, shout me @ eaglehead_uk@hotmail.com and I'll email you some stuff........

thank you dear, for the words of wisdom and encouragement. right now we have put her in the ground and as is the VA (our home state) tradition in the hills of the Blue Ridge valley we are now busy celebrating her life which was a wonderful rich life. She went from the duldrums of an 18 year housewife to the top of her field as a legal secaratary in D.C. and was a closet hippie all her life until 40 when she asked for a "puff". Before that in the company of a severe marine corps officer she made sure that tommy and i learned piano and guitar and yes, tears filled our eyes when we heard your music ...it was as beautiful as all the memories swarming through our minds of mom. . .but none the less i wanted to personally thank you for your love and tenderness, it's funny i noticed you we're from boston, i used to play the subways there where the green line meets the blue line at government center station and am about to release a song called "the heart of boston" which is about that feeling. again, thank you love, you are a true champion of feelings and are greatly appreciated in the Two Cats Hunting Records circle.

Hi Beth,
I just read your email on the front of my page, sorry I didn't respond right away, sometimes it takes me a bit to get in the loop!
I will send you a pm in a bit, over at my Yahoo account. I appreciate your concern and suppor. I'm doing pretty well, still healing, but can now play my guitar gently with my splint. I don't want mess anything up yet. It's been about one month since my surgery, but each week seems to get better.
I think that my injury was mainly caused from lifting my mom when she got really ill last fall, the constant heavy lifting and pulling seemed to bring this problem on, i never had had any pain or problems with my guitar playing in the past, but I'm sure it didn't help the situation.
Anyway, will write you more in a bit at my pm.
Thanks again and best wishes to you,
- Gina

Take care of that hand Beth.
I noticed that our drummer (in a cover band) was wearing an arm bandage at the gig on Friday. He injured it a couple of months ago playing two sets back to back at a benefit we did.
Better take it easy, And try some warm-up stretches, etc., before and during performing.

Unfortunately I won't get to play on the Ship, except may be for Amateur night!!!

All the best for now, keep doing what you are doing. I think is fantastic!!! at least you get to play live. Busking or otherwise, it does not matter, the main thing is that you have an audience!!!

Hi Beth,
Haven't learned much yet, just finding my way as I have only had one day a week to practice. Shortly I will be on a ship for 70 days. That should give me plenty of time to practice.
I have learned to: Tune the guitar on itself
the chords of A, Am, E, Em, G, C, D
I plan to teach myself all the chords, so that I can at least accompany myself. Later I will try to learn how to play melody.
I find that strangely it gets easier to play the chords every time I get back to it.
I will be away for a while and I will have limited access to the internet, so I won't be around often, but I will try to log in one in a while.
Ciao for now,
Vincenzo

Hi, the message/mail is down on IAC. Hopefully the action on the guitar is not bad. It will take time for your fingers to learn to make a clean sound. Play SLOW to learn it right. Wiggle fingers to get it right...practice changing chords very slowly...I've seen some nice acoustic guitars on craigslist for sale cheap so eventually you might get a nice one there....my friend got a nice Alvarez for $50 and just had to replace a tuning head which he did himself. Yamaha makes excellent instruments at a reasonable price; so does Ibanez. But your Suzuki may be just fine if the octaves are OK. I love the guitar; love the mandolin too, and wish I played better....been playing the street a lot and I really like it...except for the weather. I wish I did this all my life.

Hi Beth,
About the guitar, the octive thingy seems fine. The guitar is not perfect, but I think is OK for me to learn on. I think that most of the problem is with my technique. As I improve, I will look for something better. Thanks for asking. Did you leave me a message? I can't get into the messages function at present.

Hi Beth ... I never did or do use an amp when I busk ... of course I usually pick fairly quite places to play ... I had an accident years ago where my fingers were burnt pretty badly, so I don't have much feeling in them at all ... so no, they never get sore ..... my arms and shoulders do hurt a lot though (from injuries received in another accident) ... I studied "mind over matter" technics though ... and learned to live through the pain ...
It's all good when one is breathing ... :)
Have a great evening...

Hi Beth,
Thanks for stopping in. I hope all is going well with you. I haven't had much of a chance the past month or two to be here or at my two stations .. so much on my plate at the moment writing my novel, and songs for my next album and gearing up to pull the band back into the studio to begin recording ... plus life has a life somewhere in the puzzle too. Hopefully I'll be back on board soon.
Cheers and best wishes .. love to live and live to love.

Thanks Beth for adding my songs to your stations. I try to write lyrics that mean something and that people can relate to.
The mandolin was my fathers as a teenager. It's a 1958 Gibson f-12. I do recordings with it, but I really don't like taking it out to gigs. I need to get a new one for that.
You have some good tunes yourself! Keep up the great work!

Hi Beth,
Thanks for your extensive help with the guitar stuff, I am sure it will help me a lot. I do want to learn the guitar, because apart from being a really nice instrument, I think it gives you a lot of freedom.
I am going to remove your message from the comments page though, if you don't mind, as it is a bit long for where it is, so I am going to cut and paste it and put it with my guitar books. I think I found two really good books written by Phil Capone.
Wish me luck!!
P.S. I have entered 12 songs in the Australian Songwriters Association competition. Last year If I could play the guitar got on the short list, so I am hoping I can do the same this year too.

Hi Beth,
I have been around, but some of my entries got deleted etc. Funny in fact that some of the links to the my song Tomorrow too late, when you google it were taking me to your latest song. That is because I uploaded my song while the site was up and down. My song then disappeared and I reuploaded it, but when you uploaded your song, it got my old ID...anyway, that's not important. I have got strings on my new very old guitar, that we found amongst the trash, I have a book and I have started teaching myself...I think is going to be a very long journey!!
Ciao,
Vincenzo

Hi Beth
Repetitive strain injury-------also called tendonitis
I was practising one particular, picking style over and over for a new tune----got it in my wrist and then up to my elbow--felt like I'd injured it---the anti inflammitory took away the pain , but I had to stop using it , for it to go.
the cat song is fun and cool----thanks for visiting my boys site btw!

Hi Beth,
You asked me how my EP was going a while back, so I thought I should let you know that I think it is almost there!! I do think though that I probably should have got someone else to sing the whole lot, never mind. At the moment there are some tracks that the more I listen the less I like them!! But that is what happens I believe..
If you are in the mood I have put it on a temp station called So Much To learn EP Preview, here: http://iacmusic.com/stations/KIAC5437.htm
Ciao for now,

Pretty shadowy planet we live on, huh? Thanks for putting that photo up...here the eclipse hit during the night and even an ye olde rocker like me wasn't able to stay up for it. Yeah, you mentioned Amy....love her voice and sassy act (I'd probably stand her personally for about 12 secs) but I think the real brains behind that operation is producer Mark Ronson...he'll milk the "crazy, druggy Amy" bit for all it's worth then she'll start doing albums of standards for the fogies like me!

Yeah, it's a bit of a winter of discontent I guess but hopefully 2008 will bring some good things both in Italy and the US. Somebody at one of those anti-Dubya sites said when the Italian government fell, "Lucky them!" I didn't see the Grammys but was very happy to see Gamey Amy and Herbie won (actual musicians for a change!). Well, bring on the Sox and with them some warm weather!

Hi Beth,
Tunecore is just the distribution company. By uploading albums to Tunecore you can then choose for your music to be distributed to a number of internet stores including Amazon.com, eMusic, Rhapsody and of course iTunes and may more. Have a look at the Tunecore site as they do have a very good FAQ. They do charge a yearly fee for each album that you upload, but it won't break the bank.
Ciao,
Vincenzo

Hi Beth, just wanted to say hi and tell you I'm sorry you've been getting all that snow. Not to mentions the Pats...bright side is that the Sox truck left yesterday for Florida so spring can't be too far away. I'm in the process of getting some covers together for my CDs and will be putting them out in digital-land shortly (Vincenzo gave me a few tips). Have you been playing or recording? Talk soon!
P.S. were you able to get into the pipeline?

A bit slowly at present. Mostly because I am trying to get rid of other important things I have to take care of first, secondly because I want to be really happy with what I am going to put out this time.
As far as songs on the E.P. they probably wan't be the best I will ever write, but won't be the worst either..

I tried to talk them into IAC ---but they are happy with MYspace and a domain**

Hi Beth, thanks for adding those songs to gyroscope...much appreciated! I'm checking out "She Doesn't Understand"....yeah! I like how your voice was recorded and the tight but loose feel (wild guitar solo!). This is one of your best I reckon. As for the pipeline, you need to go to your personal area and then get in from there. When you get to the Pipeline there's thing to see previous topics. Everybody must be getting psyched up for the Pats - good luck!

Do you know what part of Italy they live in? Here each region here is like a separate country....I'm heavily digging "Innocence Shot Down" writing this. Yeah, always a lil' funny coming back to Beantown after so many years away. How is Boston these days? I was reading it was voted number 1 singles city in the US in some survey and I was there like "No, c'mon...." I was working as a guard at Simmons College in '89-'90 and the Fenway was like a warzone...glad things have got better. Keep smilin', Carl

Hi Beth, good hearing from you. Thanks for putting up my songs on Gyroscope, I've always loved the blues and tried to keep as much of that feeling in my stuff as possible. Yeah Italy...been here 18 years now, goes fast. Long story but basically met a girl when in the Navy, came over, got married and here I am. Northern Italy actually has a lot in common with New England believe it or not...pretty no-nonsense "caaan't get thar from heah" vibe in some things. Biggest loves (besides my wife): the food and the anarchic element; biggest turnoffs: the driving and the anarchic element :-)
Hope to be getting a station up meself before too long....have you ever thought of writing a blues song about your hairdressing experiences? Kind of female perspective on John Lee Hooker's "Processed Head"? Btw, apart from your music really dig the photography. Look forward to keeping in touch and all the best!

Hi Beth, saw your name over at the Dylan station and checked out some of your stuff. Good job that you got back into music (!)...it sounds great. Really unique voice and mighty piano (I'm listening to "High & Dry). Btw, I'm actually from out in Marlborough but moved over to Milan, It about 18 years ago....funny, your stuff makes me think of the old 1369 jazz club in Cambridge (used to jam there). Anyway, all the best and keep those great blues coming.
