Pull down your shades and light some candles. A simple, yet poignant blend of jazz and blues is headed your way. Who are we talking about? Singer-Songwriter, Melody Gardot. Though only 21, young Gardot, with her hauntingly smooth voice and lyrical wisdom, delivers a sweet package of strength-filled honesty that is guaranteed to give you goose bumps. New out is an independently produced EP titled ""some lessons-the bedroom sessions"" The buzz that's brewing is that she is likely to follow in the footsteps of other well -known musicians such as Diana Krall, Carole King and Norah Jones. An editors pick on CdBABY, this came as a suprise to the artist, as she did the entire album in her bedroom..... What’s her story? With a bloodline of band conductors, artists and musicians it was no surprise to anyone she should find ease in similar expression. At the tender age of 16, Melody was the regular entertainment for Saturday nights at the Tiramisu’s Piano Bar on South Street (Philadelphia, PA). Following this was another night in Ardmore, PA at the Café San Pietro, where Melody continued to play weekly. Currently you will find her at well known clubs throughout the Philadelphia region such as the World Café Live and The Tin Angel. BIG NEWS: after the shock of a recent automobile accident that left Melody in recovery for over 18 months, she is anxious to get back into the music scene that she was forced to leave due to her injuries. (While riding her bicycle home one night in Philadelphia PA she was struck by a Jeep and left with several pelvic fractures as well as many other injuries.) The young songstress saw only positive, in that the accident broadened her perspective on life and brought new inspiration to her songs. Take the title track off the new EP for instance: ’Some Lessons’ is a clear but quiet reflection of the scene of the accident, as well as a note-to-self kind of a song that reminds us all of what great strength the human spirit possess. A side note: Why is this EP called the bedroom sessions? Melody Gardot: ”The entire EP was crafted during my lengthy recovery process. The songs were recorded bedside.” One may find this surprising in an era of super producers and pop mega stars. But from the shallow depths of the young woman’s slept-in bed sheets, an honest and hopeful young voice arises with great strength and even greater wisdom.
