people that do this are not worth the time of day take it all in stride man, bee3n there done that. just keep being you and work your chops, you got the stuff brother

If it's online, I wouldn't waste a second by responding to them. You don't know the reason why they say those things, they might be projecting their own insecurities, they might be jealous, or they're just trolls wanting you to feel bad and there is no point in reacting to any of that.
If it's in your face - you can end that conversation right here and there. ''I will not tolerance this kind of behavior towards me, goodbye.'' or just ''OK'' and walk away. Remember, they want your reaction, so if you give them none, they have nothing to work with :)
It's easier to say than done, but arguing with such people is pointless and if you're confident in your craft and yourself as an artist, no insult will hurt you because the foundation is strong enough to handle them :)

I'm sure all of us have received negative or even horrible comments, insults and criticism at various times - worst of all our own inner critic!!!
If I listened to any of them I'd have never recorded a thing! Ask anyone here, the first few things I put up were half baked ideas and appalling recordings but I got mainly encouragement from the people here and my local song writing group and I'm now more than halfway through my third album!!
Basically, I find it's useful to listen to constructive criticism and ideas but just let anything else roll off me - it's their problem don't let it be yours!!

Well, their are several trains of thought on this. One being to ignore them and keep doing other things. The other being to delve in deeper to see if they have some constructive criticism. Constructive critiques are very valuable because they show things that you can improve on. We all can improve. But if they are just trashing your work with no suggestions on how you can improve or what you need to improve on, I say fuckem! They ain't worth your time brother! My first reaction is usually to examine the critic. Is this a person with great musical knowledge and experience or is this some asshole who don't know shit? Occasionally someone will make a very educated comment about my music and I pay very close attention to those kinds of comments. For instance, one time another artist told me I was flat on a song and exactly where I was flat. I re-listened and sure enough he was right. So I went back into my studio and fixed that problem. A few months later that song got signed. So, he did me a great favor by critiquing my work. Examine the source of criticism before you get angry. They may be trying to help you out. Nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes in life and music. Being willing and able to correct your mistakes is what separates the successful from the failures.
